These sculptures in the British Museum were made from parts of weapons. Can't remember where they came from but they look similar to this guy's stuff from Libya: mashallahnews.com/?p=7388
The statue of Sir Ross Smith, commemorates the first aeroplane flight from England to Australia. Smith`s flight from England to Australia in 1919 was a symbolic challenge to the perceived isolation of Australia from the rest of the world. It was the first such flight in less than 30 days, and was in response to a 10,000 pound prize offered by the South Australian Government. Sir Ross Smith tragically died in 1922 in a plane crash in England while testing an aircraft for a planned around the world flight. Following his death the public was quick to donate to a “shilling fund”, opened by the Lord Mayor of Adelaide, to provide a fitting memorial.

I've driven by these scuptures a million times and thought I should take some pictures of them and finally took the time too.

Welded Wonders Project, the initiative of Matt Zubick, a member of the family that owns and operates the east London scrap yard. John Zubick Ltd. was founded in 1948, and remains one of London's leading scrap metal yards.
The project works like this; the materials for the projects come from Zubicks and the Fine Art (3 year advanced Diploma program) Fanshawe students supply the vision and talent. At Zubicks we also provide manpower, safety equipment and welding advise free of charge.

Clothing is an exercise of memory. It makes me explore the past: how did I feel when I wore that? They are like signposts in the search for the past.
- Louise Bourgeois
This year I have focused on our relationships with clothing and how they act as a memory of us. They memorise our bodies, creasing where our arms and legs bend, catching our sweat, our DNA and sometimes our blood. They are marked by our lives, as we stain and tear them, and are associated with different moments or periods of life, whether they feel significant, everyday or somewhere in between.
The resulting work is a quilt modelled on my hallway, made out of clothing from my friends, family and acquaintances. It is about the people in my life who represent my home. I have embroidered over stains and tears to highlight them as points of memory, putting in a labour of love and care as an ode to the important but forgotten work of women in patriarchal society.

Constructed Head No. 2 exemplifies the revolutionary approach to sculpture Naum Gabo pioneered in the 1910s as part of the Constructivist movement in Russia. To express the technological ethos of the new century, Gabo drew upon principles of engineering for his light-weight, honeycombed structures. These works open up inner form to light, space, shadows, and reflections, minimizing solidity of mass and surface.

Summer is for Art. I finally get to close and finished a couple of moleskines. Here are some pages from calico book.
This is one of the kids in the Neighborhood Bike Works during the latter half of the Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby on Frankford Ave. I got a bunch of really fun shots - some of the contraptions were great!
Saturday was lovely because my dad and Bailey decided to drive to Philly for the day and join us for the parade and for lunch. After they left (sadface), Josh and I rode our bikes over to the Franklin Institute for a poetry slam some of his students were involved in. So many talented kids. Such a positive forum to voice those talents.
I've been terribly busy lately and haven't been able to update consistently, but I HAVE been taking pictures! I have a bunch from this weekend that I can't wait to go through and post.
News of war's end brought many people outdoors to celebrate, such as here at College Green in Bristol, England on Victory in Europe Day (VE Day).
