A bonus working today was 60056 on the 6V70 West Holmes Jct-Lindsey wagon move, comprising about 30 tanks, seen here passing through Scunthorpe station, 18.11.15.

On rail replacement in Scunthorpe

8.704/8.70 were built for Norwegian State Railways in the mid-1990's. A number of the class were moved to Redcar steelworks but on closure, they found themselves redundant and moved again to Scunthorpe.

I was lucky enough to partake in a Tour of Scunthorpe Steelworks in 2013 with the Appelby Frodingham Railway Preservation Society. Although i was on the wrong side of the Brakevan, i managed a half decent shot of the Corus liveried Class 20 that was on site, numbered 81 this is ex BR 20056.

Shots of the Tata site were strictly forbidden to be published but i think enough time has elapsed for this to be viewed plus i have seen several images on other Flickr sites of the internal workings of the Steelworks

Scunthorpe Bus Station, Monday 9th October 1978. The bus is, of course, one of the Gardner-engined Bristol FLFs new to Bristol Omnibus Co., which spent most of their lives with West Riding Autos as replacements for that operator's avant-gardé Guy Wulfrunians. At the time of the photo the newer of them had recently passed to Lincolnshire Road Car Co. In the case of this, the former Bristol no. C7290, the company had not yet had the opportunity of applying a coat of leaf-green paint, or its own fleet number. Was it perhaps a loan rather than a full transfer? Alongside, another example of bus company home-made bodywork applied to an AEC Matador towing wagon.

Back to some archive shots along the North Lincolnshire line. On a gloomy day 56119 heads through Scunthorpe with a mgr working past the extensive sidings that used to exist, Nov 87.

My take on the 9Z10 run past (unfitted freight for the 1Z10 group). The orange spot in the distance is Glen, thanks so much for organising this! The empty wagons were lifted from the nearby billet loading bay. Also thanks to the fireman and driver - apparently the coal they use was too good to give us black steam.

Harry Needle Railroad Company hire loco 81 (originally BR class 20 20056) at work on the north side of the Rail Service Centre of TATA Steel's Appleby-Frodingham works in summer 2014. The reign of the class 20s at the works proved to be short-lived and all had been returned to the hire company during 2016. The Plate Mill itself was to cease production just over one year later.

The last of the 20s which were used for shunting duties at the steelworks (20056) is currently dumped OOU in one of the sidings within Scunthorpe Steelworks. The last few years of storage outside have certainly taken its toll on the loco's appearance! 02.10.2021

The cascade finale of the annual firework display at Glanford Park, the home to Scunthorpe United FC. For this image I thought that instead of just going to the ground and watching the display with thousands of others, I'd park myself on one of the motorway bridges over the M181.

I was probably a mile away from the action but wanted to get some light trails in the image from the passing cars on the motorway below. Photography I guess is sometimes about getting something a bit different on a classic theme.

56113 is seen on the rear of a Pathfinder Tours "Grotto Grid" as it returns to Scunthorpe from Roxby Gullett. From Scunthorpe the special would now return to Trowbridge. I take my hat off to any passangers who made the full trip. Their departure was at 04.51 with a planned return at 23.56.

Coal silos for material brought from the stocking ground which will be fed via conveyor to the coke ovens at Scunthorpe Steelworks. I am unsure whether these are now being used to handle coke as the ovens are all shut down.

KGY566Y a Bova Europa EL26/581 of Daisey, Broughton is seen at the northern end of its route from Gainsborough.

It came from Hallam, Newthorpe in 1995.

New in 1982, I don't think KGY566Y is its original reg.

I do not normally purchase slides but whilst browsing on E Bay this gem caught my eye.

The whole image just oozes atmosphere and the fact it is in monochrome I think just adds something more than a K64 slide could do.

We see an everyday scene of 47340 building up the amps on the Down Main with 30 HAA MGR Hoppers running as 6V60 09:27 Scunthorpe Coal Handling Plant to Seven Tunnel Junction. The empty MGR wagons will be loaded at Oakdale Colliery and sent back to Scunthorpe.

Next to the 47 is 56009 with 7D48 06:57 Worksop Up Yard to Scunthorpe Coal Handling Plant loaded working the coal being sourced from Dinnington, Thurcroft or Manton Collieries waiting to get the road into the CHP.

The large building dominating the back ground is the coal handling plant itself. The goods yard is full of SNCF registered steel wagons and will no doubt be loaded with product from the Steel Works for the Dover Trainferry.

Along with Frodingham Depot in the back ground a 31 and some class 20s can be seen waiting next duties along with some SPA wagons in the wagon repair sidings. The other side of the mainline also shows Entrance 'A' into the steel works and in Trent Lower Yard another set of coal hoppers waiting a slot into the CHP to be unloaded. JS Collection
