It is difficult to capture the beauty of some scrolls, I hope I have done this one justice. It has a great deal of charm.
Turning towards the entrance to Southend Central Bus Station, Eastern National 1799 (TJN 498R) is already scrolled for it next journey.
Ringdoll was selling scrolls with their concept art of the dolls on them too. I bought the one with K on it (cause duh) but I actually won the other one! Which was awesome, since I don't really win stuff. Both are signed by Huang Shan - the sculptor of Ringdoll. :)

Early 20th c. scrolled panorama of "The visit of Santa Claus to the Happy Children" by Milton Bradley & Co. of Springfield, Ma.
Cardboard box has a scroll of scenes on two metal rods which turn, changing the scene visible in an opening in the box bottom. Scenes are done in color lithography. One metal rod missing, otherwise in good condition.

Meine erste Foto-Einzelausstellung präsentiert im Café Berio, Berlin

In meiner ersten Foto-Einzelausstellung zeigte ich meine Berliner Portraits und einige meiner Vogel-Fotografien; daher der Titel der Ausstellung. In meinem Fotoprojekt wollte ich einmal weg von den sonst bewusst gewählten Orten, an denen man ein Fotoshooting durchführt. Ein Studio oder eine ausgewählte Location haben für die Menschen meist etwas sehr Unpersönliches. Ich wollte dorthin, wo es am authentischsten ist; an die Orte, an denen die Protagonisten (überwiegend Künstler) zu Hause und in ihrem Element sind: auf der Bühne, hinter der Bühne und vor, während und nach einem Auftritt bzw. Event. Ich möchte dem Betrachter Bilder zeigen, die er nicht unbedingt während einer Veranstaltung wahrnimmt und Außenstehende gefangen nehmen, als hätten sie es live miterlebt.
Über 70 Arbeiten präsentierte ich in der Ausstellung; darunter Portraits von Romy Haag, Henry de Winter, Hanna Schygulla, Georgette Dee, Dieter Rita Scholl, Gloria Viagra, Ades Zabel, Frank Wilde, Gaby Tupper und vielen anderen.
Vögel leben auf allen Kontinenten. Sie sind flüchtige, scheue Tiere. Auf meinen Fotografien lassen sie aber eine unwahrscheinliche Nähe zu. Das eigentlich Fremde und in der Natur nicht Sichtbare habe ich in meinen Vogel-Portraits festgehalten.
Mein Motto: "Authentizität ist das Schlüsselwort, das hinter meiner Fotografie steht. Ich ziehe es vor, mehr die menschliche Note zu zeigen und weniger die Retusche."
Die meisten der Exponate sind in der queeren Community entstanden.

My first solo photo exhibition presented at Café Berio, Berlin

In my first solo photo exhibition, I showed my Berlin portraits and some of my bird photographs; hence the title of the exhibition. In my photo project, I wanted to get away from the usual deliberately chosen locations for a photo shoot. There is usually something very impersonal about a studio or a selected location for people. I wanted to go where it is most authentic; to the places where the protagonists (mostly artists) are at home and in their element: on stage, backstage and before, during and after a performance or event. I want to show the viewer images that they don't necessarily see during an event and capture outsiders as if they had witnessed it live.
I presented over 70 works in the exhibition, including portraits of Romy Haag, Henry de Winter, Hanna Schygulla, Georgette Dee, Dieter Rita Scholl, Gloria Viagra, Ades Zabel, Frank Wilde, Gaby Tupper and many others.
Birds live on every continent. They are elusive, shy animals. In my photographs, however, they allow an improbable closeness. I have captured what is actually alien and invisible in nature in my bird portraits.
My motto: "Authenticity is the keyword that lies behind my photography. I prefer to show more the human touch and less the retouch."
Most of the exhibits were created in the queer community.

An early illuminated talismanic scroll containing one of the earliest complete copies of al-Busiri’s (died circa 1294-6) al-Burdah, a poem in praise of the Prophet Muhammad.
Probably Ilkhanid Iran, late 13th / first half of the 14th century
Arabic manuscript on paper laid down on cloth in scroll form, the text written within alternating cartouches and roundels in naskhi script in black and red ink, small gold dots or large rosettes between verses, titles written in thuluth script in white (now oxidized) or gold incorporated within illuminated panels decorated with gilt floral and vegetal motifs on blue ground, some titles written in smaller naskhi script in maroon ink, interspersed with cornerpieces with similar decoration as that of the title panels, outer bordres with selected verses from the Qur’an written diagonally in larger thuluth script in black ink, large gilt rosettes decorated with alternating gold and blue dots, flanked by an inner and outer band containing surat al-Ikhlas written in smaller naskhi script in red ink and which is repeated in the borders of the whole scroll, eight diagrams containing letters, words or numbers, each within a square or a lozenge and written in black or red ink, with drawings of a sword, spear and bow and arrow
approximately 6 metres 75 cm. x 13.7 cm.
This extremely rare and early talismanic scroll was most probably commissioned by a high ranking official such as a royal or military person to be carried close to the body in battle for protection against the enemy. This is confirmed by the drawings of the sword, spear and bow and arrow which would have been worn and used by such a person during military campaigns. Whereas many talismanic scrolls of the sixteenth-century onwards mostly written in ghubari script in Turkey, Iran, Egypt and India are to be found in abundance, very few early scrolls from the 12th to the 15th centuries did survive the destructive forces of battle and the harsh climate of the above mentioned countries.
The handwriting and the way the numbers 4 and 5 are written indicate a Persian as opposed to a Mamluk provenance, and the scroll must have been produced after the death of al-Busiri around 1294-6, since he is given the title of marhum (deceased, late) at the beginning of the poem.
The texts included in this scroll are as follow:
Two prayers incorporated within an illuminated cartouche and roundel.
Al-Asma’ al-Husna, the Beautiful Names of God or the divine names or epithets of God which are usually ninety-nine in number.
Du’a, a prayer.
Hirz al-Amani, an amulet or talisman for protection.
Du’a ‘azim jalil, a prayer.
Du’a mubarak sharif, a prayer with a diagram of nine squares each containing a number.
There follows seven haykals (structures or temples) each containing a prayer, one for each day of the week.
Hijab sharif ‘azim, amulet or talisman of protection with a diagram composed of thirty-six squares containing words which make up the verse , “there is no fear for the holy men of God”. The diagram is surrounded by numbers on three sides.
A prayer against the enemy (al-‘adu) with drawings of a sword, spear and bow and arrow.
A prayer in relation to Kings (al-muluk) with a diagram containing letters.
A prayer to revoke or invalidate spells( li-ibtal al-sihr) with a diagram containing letters.
A prayer invoking the protection of youth (al-shubban) with a diagram containing letters.
A prayer for healing (shifa’) with a diagram containing numbers.
A prayer for the increase of wealth (al-rizq) and prosperity (al-barakah).
A prayer related to freeing from prisons (al-sujun) with a diagram containing words.
Hirz ‘azim, an amulet or talisman for protection with a diagram containing letters.
A prayer for the deliverance of pregnant women with a diagram containing letters and surrounded by numbers.
Al-Kawakib al-Durriyah fi Madhi Khayr al-Barriyah, Glittering Stars: In Praise of the Best of Creatures, commonly known as al-Burdah, The Mantle. The work is a famous poem in praise in the Prophet Muhammad composed by Sharaf al-Din Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Sa’id al-Daulasi al-Busiri who imitated the Qasidah of Ka’b bin Zuhair. The author, al-Busiri died in A.H. 694 / A.D. 1294-5 which makes this copy one of earliest of this work, probably written within fifty years of the author’s death. The poem is written in its complete form with 162 verses (bayt).
Another early copy of the poem copied by the scribe Yusuf al-Sara’I at Cairo, dated 16th Sha’ban 707 / 10th February 1308 is in the Chester Beatty Library, see A.J. Arberry, A Handlist of the Arabic Manuscripts, volume V, Dublin, 1962, p.58, no. 4178.
The verses from the Qur’an selected to be written in the outer borders of this scroll were thought to be by many as being effective protection against the dangers encountered in battle. Surah CXII, Al-Ikhlas, Purity, which maintains the unity of God in Islamic belief is associated in popular belief with superstitious practises and which explains why it was repeatedly written around the inner and outer border of this scroll. Another scroll with the same outer bands containing surat al-Ikhlas, and the seven haykals, produced in Mamluk Egypt in the fifteenth century, was sold at Sotheby’s on the 13th October 1980, lot 92.

Public access description
The Manchester Tiara was made by Cartier, Paris, in 1903 to the order of Consuelo, Dowager Duchess of Manchester. Cartier’s records note that she supplied over a thousand brilliant-cut diamonds and more than 400 rose-cut diamonds, while Cartier supplied further rose-cut diamonds and the paste stones which make up the scrolls at the end of each side.
This tiara of graduated flaming hearts and C scrolls was inspired by a vision of France before the Revolution. Louis Cartier encouraged his designers to sketch 18th-century ironwork and architectural ornament in Paris and Versailles, and to study engraved jewellery designs.
Consuelo, Duchess of Manchester (1858-1909), was the daughter of Antonio Yznaga del Valle, of Ravenswood, Louisiana, New York and Cuba. Consuelo was taken by her mother to Paris where her American friends included Jennie Jerome, later to be the mother of Winston Churchill and Alva Smith, later to be Alva Vanderbilt. Consuelo married George Victor Drogo Montagu, Viscount Mandeville, the future 8th Duke of Manchester, in 1876. The Duke of Portland recorded that she ‘took Society completely by storm by her beauty, wit and vivacity and it was soon at her very pretty feet’. She became a friend of Queen Alexandra to whom she bequeathed a bracelet on her death in 1909. A letter to the Times described her as ‘one of the first of the American ladies who married into the great English families, and who brought to this country that rare combination of high intelligence, a sunny nature and uncommon personal charm’.
Physical description
Diamond tiara composed of seven graduated heart-shaped openwork motifs with 'C' scroll ends, with detachable collet and scroll surmounts, each centre suspending three diamond drops. The smallest heart motif and the 'C' scrolls at each end are set with paste, except the three collet diamonds at the centre of each heart and their two outer borders.

Object history note
The tiara was commissioned by Consuelo, Dowager Duchess of Manchester, in 1903 from Cartier, Paris, primarily using diamonds which she had supplied.
