On the left side, the Schuylkill Expressway was built along the west bank in the 1960s. On the right side, in 2012 the river trail biking/ped path was extended out over the river where there wasn't enough space between the train tracks and the river bank. In the background is Center City Philadelphia.
Not much of a haul out of West Cressona for the NRRB during the height of the Covid19 pandemic as they depart West Cressona (from MINE, half a mile north of here) and pass Schuylkill Haven on their way south down the Pottsville Branch.

This mural along the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia just keeps hanging in there year after year, in an area where practically everything gets ruined by graffiti. Maybe the fact that it sits directly above an expressway has saved it from "artists" who aren't willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to display their supposed talent.
After stopping around the curve east of the station at Schuylkill Haven, CNJ 113 puts on a show as she stomps through town leading the way back to Minersville. December 1, 2018.

A pano of the old Philadelphia Waterworks, once a major pumping station for the city's water supply and now largely a nice foreground for the city's Art Museum. A walking path that runs by this and continues down to the University of Pennsylvania has become a hugely popular jogging and biking path along what was once a no-man's land of neglected waterfront that once was jammed with piers in Colonial times.
