Abandoned railroad Swing Bridge over the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The existing structure, owned by Conrail, is a railroad swing bridge constructed for the Philadelphia, Wilmington & Baltimore Railroad and previously carried heavy rail road freight across the Schuylkill River. The rail line was abandoned and the swing bridge had been locked in the open position since 1976 to allow maritime traffic to travel north of the bridge on the Schuylkill River.

The Schuylkill River in Philadelphia at dawn, just about the only time of day when this stretch of extremely ugly expressway looks good (meaning you can't see it).

The Schuylkill River, pronounced, school-kill, is a river in Eastern Pennsylvania, whose name is from the Native Americans who originally lived there. Alongside the river is the Schuylkill River Trail as it winds its way through Philadelphia.

We headed down to the river with solid clouds overhead, which parted just as we arrived and then closed in again an hour later. But an hour is all you need. Train spotting at the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.

The Schuylkill river, meaning "hidden river," empties into the Delaware in Philadelphia after draining the watershed of the Poconos mountains.

A new pedestrian bridge was just opened crossing the Schuylkill in Valley Forge park. What a great view it provides! Okay, so it may not be Iceland, the Gold Coast, or the Tetons, but a gorgeous place for sunsets none-the-less.

I'll be spending some select mornings and evenings here to be sure.

Oh, and by the way... No bump in saturation on this photo. A 2 stop graduated ND filter, plus a little adjustment on the highlights and whites - otherwise, this is RAW. Sometimes the color of sunrises & sunsets can seem to go beyond real.
