I just like the colour contrasts, the bright ferns and tree against the brooding sky, and the lichen adds a splash of yellow on the posts. The path on the right is the circular route around Scaling Dam reservoir, we should have worn more waterproof shoes!
Upper hull sitting on the lower hull. The Merkava IV has an easy to model shape. Mostly straight lines from front to back.
Orkney was the site of a Royal Navy base at Scapa Flow which played a major role in World War I and 11. This Royal Navy base was strategically important for the Battle of Jutland. This battle was from 31st May 1st June, 1916, off the North Sea coast of Denmark’s Jutland Peninsula. It was the largest naval battle and the only full-scale clash of battleships in that war. My Great-Grandfather was in this battle. He was a stoker. His ship was rammed by one of their own ships and he spent 5 hours in the cold waters of the North Sea. Many stokers perished in this battle – most would think it was because they were trapped down below, but many perished as they came from the heat of the boiler room into the cold water and would go into shock.
After the Armistice in 1918, the German High Seas Fleet was transferred in its entirety to Scapa Flow to await a decision on its future. The German sailors opened the sea-cocks and scuttled all the ships. Most ships were salvaged, but the remaining wrecks are now a favoured haunt of recreational divers. One month into World War II, a German U-boat sank the Royal Navy battleship HMS Royal Oak in Scapa Flow. As a result barriers were built to close most of the access channels; these had the additional advantage of creating causeways enabling travellers to go from island to island by road instead of being obliged to rely on ferries. The causeways were constructed by Italian prisoners of war, who also constructed the ornate Italian Chapel out of a Nissan Hut! These barriers became known as the Churchill Barriers as Winston Churchill, the Prime Minister at the time, visited Scapa Flow after the U-boat incident and ordered these barriers to be put in.
An over view of the 00 model Village Parish Church. This is an exceptionally detailed model that would loo fantastic as a centerpiece for any layout.
To see all the models visit The Rochdale Model Rail Exhibition in Lancashire on November 5th/6th 2011.

Sorry. couldn't resist that. This fine model of a dredger was part of the exhibition being held at Crossness engines. It is radio controlled and practically every feature of the ship works from the various conveyors to the suction dredge itself. I have seen the full size ship in Shoreham harbour several times.
