The Cathedral of Christ the Savior today is the Cathedral and, in fact, the main temple of Russia. Here the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia celebrates divine services, Bishops' Councils and other church forums meet. The dramatic fate of the temple made it not only a monument to those who fell in 1812 (as originally conceived), but also a testimony to the complex ups and downs in the history of Russia in the XX century. The Cathedral of Christ the Savior is on the balance sheet of the Moscow mayor's office, which handed over the temple to the Russian Orthodox Church for unlimited use. The Cathedral of Christ the Savior is a memorial temple, it was erected in honor of the victory and in memory of those who fell in the war of 1812. According to tradition, such votive temples were built in honor of church holidays or in honor of a saint. But this temple was erected in the name of the Savior himself. According to the idea of Alexander Vitberg, the first architect of the cathedral, the temple was supposed to be majestic and colossal, and its glory was to surpass that of Peter's Cathedral in Rome.
Construction on the project of Konstantin Ton began in 1839 and was completed only in 1881. During the years of Stalin's regime, the temple was blown up, and in its place the Palace of Soviets was supposed to appear - a huge building crowned with a sculpture of Lenin. The war prevented the implementation of the grandiose idea, and after its end, funds for the Palace were no longer found, and from a political point of view, the structure lost its relevance. In 1960, an outdoor swimming pool "Moscow" appeared on the site of the cathedral, which existed until 1994. In connection with this pool, the water in which was not particularly clean, they recall the legend of a nun who, opposing the construction of a temple on the site of the Alekseevsky Monastery, cursed the construction site and predicted that a huge muddy puddle would be located on the site of the temple.
In the early 90s, already in new Russia, they decided to build the temple anew. The restorer Alexei Denisov carried out painstaking work to restore the historical appearance of the cathedral according to the surviving drawings, drawings and measurements, but due to disagreements about the appearance of the cathedral, it was removed from work. The completion of the temple was supervised by Zurab Tsereteli, who decided to carry out the external decoration of the walls in bronze, although in the history of Russian church architecture there is not a single example when metal was used in this case. The temple was completed, but this is not the same temple that stood here a hundred years ago, despite the outward resemblance. The decoration of the temple was conceived by Ton as a chronicle of the Patriotic War of 1812 in the plots of the Gospel, but now this kind of stone book cannot be read without referring to archival sources.

The Rat Savior is a 1976 Croatian fantastic horror film directed by Krsto Papić. It was released in 1976, and was selected as the Yugoslav entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 49th Academy Awards. In 1999, a poll of Croatian film critics found it to be one of the best Croatian films ever made.
The plot: A man uncovers a race of intelligent rats who can appear as human. He is captured and taken to the rat people’s leader (the "savior" of the movie's title). He escapes, but then wonders who among his fellow humans is a rat person in disguise.
One of the movie locations was also the building in the photo, located in the historic part of Zagreb, Croatia. I watched the movie as a small child and, as a result, spent the rest of my childhood and early teens scared to death of that building. Of course, it sounds silly now. :-)
My sunset capture got blown out, but fortunately for me, the woman in front of me nailed the shot! Now, all I've gotta do is just crop this down some more... ;-)

Chestnut-sided Warblers flit and hop along slender branches, carefully inspecting the undersides of deciduous leaves. Look for them in saplings and shrubs more often than in tall trees. They often raise the tail and droop the wings as they move through the branches.

The icon of the Lord Savior / Lord Almighty is to the right of the Royal Doors of the iconostasis, and the icon of the Mother of God is to the left.
On the royal doors, in accordance with the canon, the Annunciation and the four evangelists are depicted, because it is the Gospel that opens the doors of salvation for us, and the Annunciation, as it is sung in the troparion of the holiday, is called the “main” (beginning) of our salvation.

Як правило, на Царській брамі зображені чотири євангелісти (на знак того, що з радісної звістки про втілення Христа і через прилучення до Євангельської проповіді людині відчиняються двері спасіння) і Благовіщення як символ того, що через Боговтілення брама Раю, замкнена після гріхопадіння людини, знову відкрита для людей. Рідше трапляються інші сюжети; на низьких стулках може не бути ніяких зображень. У православній традиції ліворуч від Царської брами розміщується образ Богородиці, а праворуч - Христа (в інших помісних церквах цього правила можуть слідувати не суворо). Другою, праворуч від Царської брами, зазвичай міститься ікона свята або святого, на честь якого освячено храм.

На лівій частині Царської брами зверху донизу:
- зображення святого Евангелиста Матфея;
- зображення архангела Гавриїла з благою вісткою до Діви Марії про те, що вона непорочно зачне від Святого Духа і народить Ісуса Христа;
- зображення святого Евангелиста Луки.
На правій частині Царської брами зверху донизу:
- зображення святого Евангелиста Іоанна;

The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood (Russian: Церковь Спаса на Крови, Tserkovʹ Spasa na Krovi) is one of the main sights of Saint Petersburg, Russia. Other names include the Church on Spilled Blood (Russian: Церковь на Крови, Tserkov’ na Krovi), the Temple of the Savior on Spilled Blood (Russian: Храм Спаса на Крови, Khram Spasa na Krovi), and the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ (Russian: Собор Воскресения Христова, Sobor Voskreseniya Khristova).
Erected on the site where political nihilists fatally wounded Emperor Alexander II in March 1881, the church was constructed between 1883 and 1907, funded by the imperial family.

These statues are part of an art exhibition in Budapest.
The New World Design for Contemporary Art presents almost 600sqm of the world of the Great War, which can be seen as the epoch that radically changed the world order of the time: the formerly stable empires have dissolved, culture and public thought have changed dramatically. World War II buried the old world, the result of a new world conflagration and then the Cold War. Europe was bleak in the twilight that the 20th century was dominated by America and Russia.
The exhibition takes visitors from happy peace to enthusiasm for war and bitter disappointment. It shows how the civilization of civilized and global warfare was fought, how the 19th century came to a standstill and the hinterland became the battlefield. The nature of war has changed: victory has now become a function of the amount of war material.

The very small town of Node, Wyoming was established around 1915. It had a couple of grocery stores, a cafe, a pool hall, and a couple of churches. One of the churches (the Congregational Church) was held in the Prairie Bell school house, which I think this building was.
It appears that it's still used for something. Maybe church, maybe a community center.
A post office was established in 1910 and was in service until 1991.
Today there's not much left. I can't find any population data on Node, but in 1986, three people lived there. Keep in mind that the entire county has only 2,300 or so folks within its borders.

"Galanthus is a small genus of about 20 species in the family Amaryllidaceae commonly known as Snowdrops. Most flower in winter, before the Spring Equinox (21st March in the Northern Hemisphere) but certain species flower in late autumn and early spring.
Snowdrops are sometimes confused with their relatives, snowflakes, which are Leucojum and Acis species.
Some snowdrop species are threatened in their wild habitats, and in most countries it is now illegal to collect bulbs from the wild. Under CITES regulations, international trade in any quantity of Galanthus, whether bulbs, live plants or even dead ones, is illegal without a CITES permit. This applies to hybrids and named cultivars as well as species. CITES does, however, allow a limited trade in wild-collected bulbs of just three species (G. nivalis, G, elwesii and G. woronowii) from Turkey and Georgia.
It was suggested by Duvoisin in 1983 that the mysterious magical herb moly that appears in Homer's Odyssey is actually snowdrop. An active substance in snowdrop is called galantamine, which, as anticholinesterase, could have acted as an antidote to Circe's poisons.[10] Galantamine (or galanthamine) can be helpful in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, though it is not a cure; the substance also occurs naturally in daffodils and other narcissi." wikipedia.org
This simple lighthouse at Harbor Beach along the Lake Huron coast has quite a history. Fronting a large man-made harbor, this light came about (pardon the pun!) from the demands of schooner captains that couldn't navigate Lake Huron when westerly winds blew strong across the Saginaw Bay to the north. So, they needed a place to put in to wait out the weather.
I like my church interior pictures nicely lined up. When I saw that they laid the rugs in a completely asymmetrical way, I almost had a panic attack. But I knew you folks were counting on me, so I powered through. If I were a true artiste, I would have made them reposition the rugs, but I am definitely not an artiste. 😁
Christ the Savior Orthodox Church occupies the former Apostolic Catholic Church, an offshoot of the Anglican church that has largely vanished. It was acquired by the Orthodox Church in America in 1996. The church's exterior masonry is a combination of red brick and limestone. It is designed in the Tudor style, recalling traditional Medieval English castles with the top of the walls adorned by the battlement. The wide entrance stair leads to the elaborate arched doorway. And the vast interior space is adorned by artfully crafted trusses supporting the roof with skylights. The complex includes a parish building. Among its owners was prominent 19th-century engineer Ellis Chesbrough who created the first Chicago water management system. Per the Open House Chicago page
