A goalie statue at St George's Park, "the home of English football". This work of sculptor Vivien Mallock commemorates Arthur Wharton the world's first black professional footballer from late 19th century. Meant to inspire everyone in the game for ethnic and racial unity, it has poignant overtones in the light of the latest racist episode with Chelsea fans in Paris :(
"Poke the body with a stick roll it down
Ignore the moaning as it tumbles to the ground
Be brave and save your day
These days are cold
Numbers rule I've been told
The pattern is clear better fit in the mould
Be brave and save your day
To cough up sympathy isn't hard but it costs
Hold tight to your life savings
You have to do what you must
To save your day
So poke the body and roll it down
The grave looks cold but we're still young"

Come on and save me
I’m loosing my touch
Day after day
Cause I miss you so much
Come on and save me
I’m loosing my mind
Waiting and waiting
For you to be mine
Come and save me
From me… me…
Come and save me
From me… me…
Scissors & glue collage created for weekly themed blog:
The Kollage Kit
THEME: THE AMERICAS
I picked up a nice old book about Chile that had page after page black & white images. And it was the kind of paper I like working with best--matte. So I found the happy bathers in it. I do believe the barren trees on the horizon are also from the same book. Then I found the airship with the words of wisdom. Lastly I found another image in my scrap box featuring a waterway and a bridge so I carefully cut that out to go above the bathing scene. (Note: Michael Leigh pointed out this image is of a UK bridge, so oops! my collage is not exactly all about The Americas!) All pasted down on an old book cover.

"Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side while he would send the crowds away. After sending the crowds away he went up into the hills by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, while the boat, by now far out on the lake, was battling with a heavy sea, for there was a head-wind. In the fourth watch of the night he went towards them, walking on the lake, and when the disciples saw him walking on the lake they were terrified. ‘It is a ghost’ they said, and cried out in fear. But at once Jesus called out to them, saying, ‘Courage! It is I! Do not be afraid.’ It was Peter who answered. ‘Lord,’ he said ‘if it is you, tell me to come to you across the water.’ ‘Come’ said Jesus. Then Peter got out of the boat and started walking towards Jesus across the water, but as soon as he felt the force of the wind, he took fright and began to sink. ‘Lord! Save me!’ he cried. Jesus put out his hand at once and held him. ‘Man of little faith,’ he said ‘why did you doubt?’ And as they got into the boat the wind dropped. The men in the boat bowed down before him and said, ‘Truly, you are the Son of God.’
Having made the crossing, they came to land at Gennesaret. When the local people recognised him they spread the news through the whole neighbourhood and took all that were sick to him, begging him just to let them touch the fringe of his cloak. And all those who touched it were completely cured."

Save me
I can not carrying my self
I bored with my silence
أنقذني من الأسى
