Gemini Springs is a park centered around its namesake spring in Debary, FL, just on the edge of the St. Johns River in Volusia County, FL. It recently came to light that land surrounding this spring which was given to the city of Debary as conservation land to ensure the continuance of flow at Gemini Springs (which was open to swimming in the nineties but had to close due to its reduced flow leading to high levels of bacteria) has been slated for construction of a housing development, which while not occupying and destroying Gemini Springs directly would such negatively affect the springshed as to perhaps fatally damage the spring over time. Centerpiece to this plan is a St. Johns Water Management District employee who has arranged for his private company to receive large payments while being employed to help orchestra this process in an obvious conflict of interest and corruption. Florida scarcely needs yet another housing community indistinguishable for all the rest and taking more and more middle class home buyers away from small towns, and irrevocably altering the environment while doing so is even more of a travesty.

One thing I know is.. small children, glass ornaments and tile floors are a bad combination. So every year we place the throw away ornaments on the bottom of the tree. As luck would have it my friends cute little 3 year old girl got carried away and well, you know the rest of the story. Tears, lots of tears, and one thing Dusty hates more than a light beer is girls crying.

I didn’t really save it, I took another ornament off the tree, along with one of the broken pieces and slipped into the bathroom. Having 3 boys I saved quite a collection of Band-Aids over the years. But, to a 3 year old little girl it was magic! Tears turned into a smile and that's how Sponge Bob saved Christmas.

Isn’t that what Christmas is all about? Enjoy the holidays my FLICKR friends!

This is a build I did for my brother-in-law and his fiancé as they were after something unique for their 'Save The Date' cards after they tied down the date for their wedding next year.

However you stumbled on this photo today, I want you to know that I don't think it was by accident and I want you to know the God of the universe is madly in love with you. He's totally crazy about you! I know it's hard to see that at times, but when we step away from the chaos of the world and turn down the volume of society, we are able to hear God's voice and He never speaks an angry or hateful word. We are fed so many lies every single day through friends, the internet, TV, ads, and so on - but GOD says that you are beautiful no matter what the world says and that it's your heart that He cares about. Religion has fooled our world into believing that God wants us to go through this check list of all the ways we need to be good people and if we mess up, He will be mad at us. But that couldn't be farther from the truth. Hear this, JESUS CHRIST was sent to this Earth so you wouldn't have to live trying to be "good enough", throw out your list! Not a single one of us is perfect and our sin separates us from God because He is perfect, but He wants nothing more than to know us. So He performed the most loving act in all of history to show His love for us - He sent His perfect Son to die for us. I know we hear that all the time but very few of us actually understand that in our hearts. What Jesus did was He paid for our mistakes, every single one of them, and all we have to do is accept what He did and live in the freedom of grace. It's not what we do that saves us, it's what Jesus already did, all we have to do is surrender to Him and admit we can't do it on our own. Our society things "doing whatever you want" is freedom but it's NOT. We've all tried to walk that road and it it will never leave you satisfied, you will always need more. Jesus will satisfy your every desire and break the chains you've had your whole life. This is real freedom.

Use photos of the happy couple to be, and tie them simply with ribbon. You could actually use these as wedding favours - people are less likely to break their teeth on them :)

A big gum tree has no chance in Brisbane suburbs! :( People cut them down because they are paranoiac it could fell on the house.

This one in Seventeen Mile Rocks is an exception, it was quite a surprise to see the tree growing through the veranda roof at the front of the house.

Having done a bit of cutting back of the over running rose bush at the back of the greenhouse I realised I had been a bit gung-ho . Saw the bloom and buds on a portion of bush chopped back and figured I ought to save these so an old bonsai pot , some dirt and some Cornish grit and it is allowed indoors now !

This is Arlington Reservoir in East Sussex. We have water use restrictions in place which will probably last into Autumn.

Like many places recently, northern Europe has had extended periods of hot weather and no rain.

A few years ago I came here in the Winter and the water level was much farther up the concrete legs of the bridge.

Climate Strike, London

Well, another Monochrome Monday has rolled around. To celebrate, here is an image of Terrace Creek Falls located in the Short Hills Provincial Park just West of St Catharines, Ontario. I have photographed this waterfall several times but in each case the flow has been no more than a trickle. Rain over the preceding several days had increased water flow in other streams nearer home (in Grimsby, Ontario) so I assumed it might be worth a hike into Terrace Creek to see if it too had benefited from the rains. And it had. First time in five years of trying to get a decent water flow shot. That said, the sun was harsh in the time slot I had available, so I took the image with the intention of a B&W end result. Colour is bland for this image. Taken using a tripod-mounted Nikon D7100 fitted with a Nikkor 12-24mm lense with a 10-stop Neutral Density/GND filter, ISO100, Auto WB, Manual mode, f/8.0, 25 sec. PP in free Open Source RAWTherapee from Nikon RAW/NEF source file: scale image to 9000x6000, enable Graduated Neutral Density tool and then rotate and shift it to darken the bright sunlit area in the diagonal lower right part of the frame, enable the Tone Mapping tool and use it to get a better balance between the dark wall of the rock wall forming the falls area and the rest of the image, boost contrast and Chromaticity in L-A-B mode, boost vibrance, sharpen, save. Note: result is a bit flat in colour but good for B&W conversion in the next stage. PP in free Open Source GIMP: convert image to B&W using the film simulation tool with the Ilford Delta 100 model, duplicate to create three layers each with black/transparent layer mask and, using a large, soft-edged brush, paint white on each one so you wind up with one layer masked for the sky area, one for the rock wall that forms the falls and one for the brightly lit foreground area, adjust each layer using the tone curve tool to get a good looking representation for each of the three areas, create new working layer from visible result, sharpen, save, scale image to 6000x4000, sharpen slightly, add fine black-and-white frame, add bar and text on left, save, scale image to 1800 wide for posting, sharpen slightly, save.
