The Sandman used to have to create his art in the 4 hours between the tide going out and it coming back in.
Once in a great while the photons cooperate with our desires.
A night spent off trial in Badlands National Park very much instilled the thought of being transported to some distant alien world. Thankfully one with an atmosphere compatible with this organism.
Thank you for viewing.
Whilst on the subject of time (something like a lot of you out there I seem to be having less of), this is my second take on this. Take one I did quick and dirty and was OK with, until I looked around at fellow Flickrites images and decided I needed to raise my game! (Very little PP on this BTW!)
This is a shot of a triple egg timer with 1, 2 and 3 minute mini timers all embedded in one piece of resin.

The Empty Quarter or Rub' al Khali is the desert area encompassing most of the southern third of the Arabian Peninsula. The desert covers some 650,000 km2 including parts of Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. It is part of the larger Arabian Desert.
The sea comes ashore day after day and delivers many treasures to us. And on this day a special item is given. The patterns on the sand here are produced by the action of the wind over time. In so many ways they mirror the waves on the sea.
The dome-like shape in the foreground is a prop trom a movie they just shot here and still had to be picked-up by the movie company. The movie: Prince of Persia "Sands of Time"
Somehow I never uploaded these before

A lone, lifeless tree stands resilient against the golden dunes of Namibia, its gnarled branches reaching toward the endless sky. This stark contrast between shadow and light captures the raw, untamed beauty of the Namib Desert, a place where time stands still and nature whispers stories of endurance.

A breathtaking view of adventurers ascending the sharp ridge of a colossal desert dune, their silhouettes contrasting against the golden sands and deep shadows. The vast, untouched beauty of the desert unfolds beneath them, as each step leaves a fleeting mark on the timeless landscape. This mesmerizing play of light and shadow captures the spirit of exploration and resilience in one of nature’s most stunning landscapes.

We are all born equal. At that moment we take our first breath the hour glass is turned on its head and the sands start to run. Each grain of sand is a moment in our lives. No one knows how many grains are in our hour glass or how fast they may flow. We may look at the falling grains and wish that they would slow...and for some they do. Their sand is damp. It sticks in the neck. Sometimes the flow sputters and a person hangs on to life for a bit, but only just. Sometimes the sand clogs in the neck and their clock stops. But most see every grain fall. Some quicker than others. But from day to day they see that it is slipping away, and their time left is less. But many refuse to look. But they cling on to the last grain of life, praying that some more might magically appear. But it won't, not for anyone.
The theme for Macro Mondays this week is 'Timepieces'. I wanted to do an hourglass but could only find this crummy one where the hourglass floats within a sealed glass tube of water. Viewed through a macro lens there are bits in the water like flaps of dead skin floating about, and the hourglass is poorly and unsymmetrically moulded. So I had an awful time setting things up. When I turned the outer glass tube to make the sands start running in the hourglass, the hourglass itself bobs about 3cm up the tube to the top. And it is not 'tight' in the tube so it floats to a position that may be just a little bit further from the point I have focused the lens at. I wanted the falling sand right in the centre to be in focus. But the water gets agitated every time I stand the hourglass on it's head and it floats to the opposite end causing all the bits of 'skin' and impurities to swirl into view. Not only that but the hourglass, rolled in the water as it went, often presenting the unsymmetrical profile each time I turned it on its head to get the sands falling! And then I had to try to get it all right and in focus, and shoot before the sand ran out. Just one minute, forty seconds. All this with something just about 15mm wide. And of course those extra fine grains of sand in the hourglass are absolutely minute. It didn't really go very well. I also discovered the sand falls surprisingly fast and I struggled to find a high enough shutter speed that would capture it. I could have used flash but that showed up all the bits in the water...….so the whole thing was a long way from a perfect result.
I love all of Madeleine L'Engle's fantasy novels, especially A Wrinkle in Time. This made me think of the "warp" and distortion of time as sand trickles down an hour glass. I had to get extremely close as this hourglass was encased in a black frame (you can see it reflected in the right side) and I can't figure out what sand-clot was falling through just as I took the photo.
The desert whispers in curves and light, shaping golden waves that shift with the breath of the wind. Shadows stretch across the dunes, tracing the passage of time in a landscape untouched, yet ever-changing. A vision of solitude and serenity, where nature paints its own masterpiece.
This weeks shot is a return to the location for my water elements shot back in March but this time i've chosen to give more emphasis to the shoreline to try to convey the passing of time, erosion and decay and the link between the sea and the land, between water and earth...

“Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.”

One look at the moonless sky from White Sands National Monument is all it takes to know that Sagan was dead on with that quote!!!
This shot was taken last night on top of one of the sand dunes in the middle of White Sands National Monument near Alamogordo, New Mexico. It was one of the last shots of the evening and tuned out to be the best shot of the evening as far as I am concerned anyway. ;-) I wonder what it would take to do a little light painting among the stars!? ;-)
White Sands is a MUST visit if you ever get the chance! :-) MORE than worth a few hours drive out of the way!
And you SERIOUSLY need to hit the "L" key on your keyboard! ;-)
