Vintage Crochet Sample
It was a common practice 60 to 100 years ago to make samples and keep them in a box or stitch them in a book so that at a later time you could reproduce it. It was also a way of sharing patterns. Most people now don't know how to copy a pattern visually.

Tink Martin tests Sample B. This model features a more cushiony seat than A has wider wooden arm rests.
Sample piece (approx. size of replicated portion of original)
-hunter's leg from 1st panel of the Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries (Cloisters-Metropolitan Museum of Art)
-unfinished
-16 epi, wool warp
-wool weft (commercially and naturally dyed)
Wool warp is springier and easier on the hands at high tension, but I've had some difficulty with packing the weft down properly
