Sample of a sweet pink & Green Birth announcement I designed for baby girl. Want to place an order? Go to www.summerjeneedesigns.blogspot.com
Sample piece (approx. size of replicated portion of original)
-holly branch from 5th panel of the Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries (Cloisters-Metropolitan Museum of Art)
-unfinished
-12 epi, linen warp
-wool weft (commercially dyed)
Linen weft is much harder on the hands at high tension, but the weft packs down much easier.
These guys came in and told us for a buck, the guy standing would perform theatre. We, being the cheapskates we are, asked for a free sample.
I tried running the sample through the laundry, but that only felted it about 1/2inch , so I felted it further by hand. It could still felt a lot further, but I kinda like it at this stage.
things I noted:
The mohair felts much faster than the mystery woolen. This makes for a great edge.
the texture of the seed stitch shows though, which made me want to try a basket-weave type structure (I'm making a basket, after all....)
sample of backstrap loom peice. this was extra warp on a project to weave the strap for the ''backstrap'' loom. Made of all wool from Lativa.

it's a shame this is blurry. meg is ANGRILY SAMPLING the incredibly delicious homemade macaroni and cheese that she, liz, and i made with a martha stewart recipe. after this, we continued to sample until the whole pan was gone.
remember how cute the no sampling set was? no? go see!
knitted on UK size 10 (3.25mm) needles
this is a really nice yarn to knit with - just incredibly fiddly after knitting my aran weight scarf! It feels incredible - like those yarns you get with angora in them.
