Vintage Crochet Sample
It was a common practice 60 to 100 years ago to make samples and keep them in a box or stitch them in a book so that at a later time you could reproduce it. It was also a way of sharing patterns. Most people now don't know how to copy a pattern visually.

Here is a sample of what the binding is gong to look like. Again, on the border of old sailing maps, this pattern can often be found, that is why I choose it!

We went out to the carpet shot this morning. For so long we've planned to renew the hall and stair carpet. it's so old and worn that it's hard to keep it clean. We were shown lots of somewhat similar samples which looked rather wishy washy to us. We wanted something patterned but there was practically nothing. Eventually we were shown this stripy one and then the lady brought out something a little more like what we had in mind. She told us it was an axminster which set us reconciling ourselved to probable extra cost. We brought the 2 samples home and immediately the axminster looked wrong and the stripes just right.
Oh dear. I forgot to sign the shot with a flower!

Unit 31 brief needed a sample book not just a sketchbook. As it was a textiles unit I decided to make my own book. On the left is a digital repetitive pattern; the other is a gelli print using a stencil.
