I don't come out this way too often. This is the view of San Francisco from across the bay at the decommissioned Naval base in Alameda. Another view of how the still under construction Salesforce tower is, well, towering over the rest of the skyline.

Thank you everyone for helping my photo make the Explore page!

On Friday I went to St Paul’s Cathedral. I don’t go too often, but enjoy it when I do. I’ve also been meaning to go ever since I got my 14mm at the start of the year, but failed to take that camera with me on this trip so will have to do that some other time.

I did take my Sony NEX-7 with me and a couple of ND filters though, so was able to mount the camera on the rail at the top with a Gorillapod and take a nice long exposure using the stacked filters.

The clouds were nice at the start of the day, but had slowed down a lot by the time I took this shot. As a result there isn’t quite as much movement as I wanted there to be, even though the exposure is around 3 minutes 45 seconds.

It was pretty crowded up there, so I appreciate all the visitors who worked their way around me while I stood there seemingly doing nothing.

This was a very clear morning for a flight from San Francisco airport. You can see many prominent city landmarks in this photo, including the Bay Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge, Fishermans Wharf, Salesforce Tower, the Transamerican Pyramid Building, Mt. Tamalpais, the Marin Headlands, and Sausalito.

Okay, I know this is really just a building in London…and it’s not really one of the Galactic Empire’s space vessels. However, the image does remind me a bit of the opening scenes of Star Wars, so I ran with that.

So; it’s Friday at last, and I have a long day ahead before heading out to Wales this evening for a weekend of camping, hiking and photo taking. I’m hoping the weather is worse than when I was in Wales a few weeks ago (nothing but bright blue sky, as those who view my daily photos would know from my moaning), but better than it’s looking at this moment in time (it’s raining – and I’m never happy).

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Overlooking the Bay Bridge and San Francisco skyline at sunset

San Francisco skyline with low blanket of fog on San Francisco Bay.

I never liked this perspective of Cupid's Span with the buildings in the background, but the towers in the distance add some interest.

A lot more construction has taken place since the last time I shot this scene in August 2017. My shift lens let me get a lot closer to the sculpture and still not have to point the camera upwards to keep straight verticals.

8 shot pano from Ina Coolbrith Park in Russian Hill. There's some fog residue near the Salesforce Tower, but it's much clearer than earlier in the night.

Salesforce Tower (formerly Transbay Tower) is an office skyscraper in the South of Market district of downtown San Francisco. It is the tallest skyscraper in the San Francisco skyline and the second-tallest building west of the Mississippi River. The tower opened in 2018 and has 61 floors, with a decorative crown reaching 1,070 ft.

The Transbay Transit Center is a transit station in downtown San Francisco. It serves as the primary bus terminal — and potentially as a future rail terminal — for the San Francisco Bay Area. The 1,430-foot-long building is located one block south of Market Street, a primary commercial and transportation artery in San Francisco.
