Lovely autumnal conditions in the Lake District

Back in the world again after a period of isolation due to Covid, I have been fortunate to only have mild symptoms, apart from the loss of taste, which is annoying.

A shot from my recent trip to the Lakes, we were blessed with interesting weather (it was wet), this was taken above Rydal Water in the low clouds

Rydal Reflections

Had a trip to Rydal Water early last week, and managed to grab this shot. It was a little misty and drizzly out, but there were still lovely colours on show :-) The main group of trees is actually on a small island.

This was taken handheld as I hadn't bothered to get my tripod out

Family holiday in the Lake District, Managed to get out for sunrise at Rydal Water, for a few seconds the light was fantastic, then it was gone!

A three-second exposure of the waterfall in the grounds of Rydal Hall in the English Lake District, captured a couple of autumns ago. The building, equipped with seating, appears to serve as a rather elaborate viewing point.

Slightly different version of an old image have not had the time to get out of late when I've been free the weather has not been playing ball hopefully put that right soon.......

Explored.

From last years Flickr meet up in the lakes, a fabulous walk from Rydal Hall. This was before the storms brought devastation to the woods

The famous Rydal water lone tree. The skies certainly delivered some mood as well as quite a lot of rain, wellies would have been a better idea, my boots are still drying out. A little bit annoyed, I managed to leave a few twigs above the skyline, the temptation was high to take out in PS but resisted.

This image was taken on what turned out to be my last morning on my recent trip to The Lake District (I had to come home a day early due to having contracted an annoying cold).

The overnight forecast was excellent. High humidity, low wind, clear skies overnight, ambient temperature and the dew point very close together = high chance of mist. I was staying in Keswick, but wanted to go somewhere different. Since I had shot the Northern Lakes exclusively (Ullswater, Derwentwater and Buttermere), I decided to head to Rydal Water. As it turned out, this was a bad call. While it was nice enough, I spent a lot of time wondering around as I didn't know the location (should have gone to it before for a recce). Also, there was very little mist there. To make matters worse, when I headed back to Keswick, I saw that that was a cloud inversion there! By this time my cold had taken full hold and despite conditions still being good, I decided I needed to eat breakfast instead.

Still, there were nice little moments at Rydal Water and the previous days' shooting with Mark Littlejohn had taught me to be alert to little fleeting moments in the landscape. This lead me to capture this, when a little bit of mist rose and curled up over the outcrop of trees, which I rather liked. It lasted about 5 seconds and then was gone.

In general, I strive to look for something different in a photograph, something that might set it apart from images that anyone else might take. Occasionally though, a scene just presents itself.

A shot I have wanted to take for some time and whilst passing on the way to work this morning I just had to stop. Thick mist over the lake isolated the tree and made for this image. I have it captured on film also so hopefully they develop as well as this quick capture on my phone.

Going back to the Lake District this weekend, hope to see some new sights.

I went to shoot the Lone Tree on Rydal Water and saw this great scene to my right capturing the morning mist and the start of a wonderfull sunrise.

Rydal water Cumbria

Planning for rainy days, I'd come up with this venue. A tricky subject but it works well enough, I think? A disused quarry, for the local slate, I'm guessing, on a Fell overlooking Rydal Water. The cave was about 20 feet deep and 16 feet high, quite impressive. The cave was very busy and we didn't stay very long, I could have done much better with the reflections with a little more thought and some patience.

Another shot from a set that a took a couple of weeks ago facing south towards Ambleside . The conditions were fantastic , the best they've been for a while :) thank you for viewing , your comments and advice are always appreciated
