You know you give your imports custom names in Lightroom? Well this one is from a collection called "Ambleside Cold". Not due to the weather, but a celebration of the fact someone infected me, just in time for my week off work 😡 I cut my trip Lakes trip short and shuffled off home. Definitely not Covid. Two negative LFTs and some, ummmm, unmistakable cold symptoms 😆
Anyway, I did just about manage to make it from the Pelter Bridge car park to the shores of Rydal (and the Grot at the Hall - yey me!).
I'll catch up soon, need to go and get some fresh air after being confined to the house.
Rydal cave in the Lake District. The cave water somehow remains high enough to support a vast numbers of small fish, despite no obvious water source.
A thunderstorm arrived and marked the end to the six-week dry spell that the Lake District and much of the UK has experienced.
No mist and drab skies in Keswick so decided to try Tarn Hows and a recce for the River Brathay.
On the way I passed Grasmere which was covered in mist and then Rydal where the mist had lifted slightly but was lingering in the woods surrounding it.
I made my way round to the opposite side of Rydal conscious that the mist was being burnt off rapidly. The sun was off to the right from here and was already quite high in an azure sky so opted to go for a tighter shot, albeit a cliched one.
Flat calm water, mist in the woods and broccoli trees with the wonderful Autumn colours of russet and gold coming through meant I could fulfil the 'No visit to the Lakes is complete without a reflection shot,' edict.
Early morning wander around Rydal Water.
I had intended on shooting the lone tree about 100 yards from here but a mother duck and her chicks were sheltering under what little cover it gives and I decided to leave them alone. It was quite a windy morning and I sat for 20 minutes or so waiting for a lull in the breeze to capture some reflections.
Last of the morning mist at Rydal. Stunning morning that started off with zero mist at Keswick so a change of plan and the whole valley from Thirlmere down to Ambleside was cloaked.
Despite all the years that I’ve visited the Lake District this is the first time I have shot this particular, very popular, tree on Rydal Water.
It had started off as a clear frosty morning and I had hoped for a bit of mist on the water, but unfortunately it never materialised in any quantity to have an impact.
Shot as a 6 shot panorama just after sunrise.
Canon EOS R
An archive and a play with one of many I took....it's a tricky composition from this spot...how to isolate the tree island without making the shot too fussy...the lovely mist came and went, but never really isolated the tree, and the pink sunrise was a wonderful bonus
Rydal Water is a small body of water in the central part of the English Lake District, in the county of Cumbria. It is located near the hamlet of Rydal, between Grasmere and Ambleside in the Rothay Valley
Last one from our trip to the Lake District for now, I have loads more but I feel like mixing things up a bit for the rest of the week.
No trip to the lakes is complete without a reflection shot, and as we had failed to get any reflections at Buttermere we stopped at Rydal Water instead. We hadn't planned to go here, but as we were driving past we saw the lake was flat as a pancake so made a quick pit stop.
The Autumn colours were just starting to come out and it really did look beautiful. We had about an hour here, but the wind soon picked up and the water started getting a bit choppy so we headed off to the pub for some lunch.
