The boathouse at Rydal

Just another shot from earlier on in the year when it was a perfect morning for taking a few shots . thankyou for viewing , your comments and advice are always very much appreciated :)

I walked up here today, I wasn't expecting the place to myself but I was surprised by the number of people visiting. I only had my phone with me so no tripod and no bracketing to capture the inside and entrance to the cave so had to make do and compromise with a shot of the cave and a small section of the entrance. Rydal cave is actually an abandoned slate mine and I can imagine the miners grafting away by candle light for a few shillings a day and no benefits. It must have been a hard life. There are a few people near the mouth of the cavern and I left these in the picture to give a sense of scale.

Rydal greens - Early morning at Rydal Water, classic Wordsworth country, with the youthful greens of spring awakening in the soft dawn light.

A misty morning at Rydal Water.

Rydal Water, Lake District, England.

Rydal Water on a lovely peaceful morning as the sun catches the top of Silver How in the distance.

Soft afternoon light reveals the hidden details of this lovely waterfall.

A man made cavern and quarry above Rydal Water. This hole in the landscape provided much of the building material for the surrounding towns, farms and villages. Now a popular stopping point for walkers around Grasmere and Rydal Water.

a quick shot passing rydal water this morning.

We went for a walk near Ambleside (English Lake District) yesterday, at the start of the walk the weather was brilliant sunshine, dark clouds gathered then cleared, sunshine appeared again then dark clouds.....all in all a typical lakeland day.

As we say in Lancashire about the weather "I wish it mek its mind up"

This shot is looking down Rydal water as another weather front decided to pay us a visit.

Last of the images taken in Cumbria over the weekend. 5 shots taken around a tree on a tiny piece of land in Rydal Water. THE END!

Canadian National C40-8 #2123 splits a country road near Rydal, GA leading CSX K423 south on a warm summer morning.

An oldie but a goldie. I re-stitched and processed this photograph a few months ago for my website. An old favourite from a superb September nearly 3 years ago now.

Another from my trip to Rydal Water. Thought this scene suited a mono conversion with a subtle split tone

One of two caves near Ambleside which were mined until 1920 to produce slate for construction.

Looking across Rydal Water towards the boat house. Had nice flat water giving some lovely reflections.

One from last Sunday, got lucky with some atmospheric conditions mid afternoon

A shot from a cold windy morning at the end of November

My first visit to this cave and I had the place to myself.

the boathouse at rydal water, on a strange morning where the light was concerned. ducks and ducklings galore at rydal water at the minute.

The lone tree at Rydal Water. Many photos you see from here are taken with mist, I can understand why as I couldn't get a composition to isolate the tree.

It was almost the end of our walk and to be fair I was in a bit of a rush too. An easy location to get to so one to revisit I think.
