The Rule of Thirds was Friday's Photo Tip from Greg Johnson, wedding photographer and storm chaser, in Regina.
Follow Greg's blog, and I highly recommend taking one of his photography workshops.
I took this image in Freetown, Sierra Leone, while on a work trip for Refugee Action, interviewing former asylum seekers who have been returned to their country of origin. The juxtaposition of the rich world's symbols (Coca-Cola, President Obama, the telecommunication's 'Rule Your World' slogan) with the extreme poverty of the area strikes me as particularly ironic.

Introduction to the Rules of Slamball
Slamball is an action-packed sport that combines elements of basketball, football, and gymnastics. It is played on a trampoline court with four players on each team. The goal is to score the most points by slamming the ball into the opponent’s goal. The game is fast and furious, and requires agility, speed, and teamwork to be successful. The rules of Slamball are designed to keep the game safe, competitive, and fun for everyone involved. Players must understand the rules before starting the game. I no longer remember how to do more than the basics with a slide rule; there was a time when I used this slide rule a lot. It was replaced by a calculator and now by the calculator function on my phone. I don't miss having to guestimate where the decimal point went.
