I'm not a building inspector, but I believe this place might not be up to code.
I think this was the doctor's house, Dr. Julius H Woodard. (There are practically no informational signs in Ruby; I'm going by the rudimentary map provided by the caretaker.) He and his wife lived here from 1930-1940, and moved to Tucson as Ruby was being abandoned. A nearby building was used as a hospital, and Dr. Woodard also made housecalls.
All of the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are long gone from Strawberry Plains Audubon Center. Allen (asparks) and I will be conducting a photo seminar on the ground Saturday morning.

This location opened in July 1989 and closed in 2012. It became Rice Restaurant on March 15th, 2019, which closed in March 2020, and became an iNoodle on September 12th, 2024.
This little guy "flew in" under the radar. I was blissfully firing at anything that perched and caught it.

I wet my pants when I saw the results.
The package said it would work on a mac. But after I opened it up and tried repeatedly, I read in the small print in the booklet that iBooks, which I have, are excluded. So I had to use virtual pc.
At any rate, I'm diggin' it. This might be the ultimate spy cam. Who would suspect a cyclops SpongeBob?
Last Monday, Ruby went to the RSPCA hospital in Putney to get spayed. She was very brave but I was a nervous wreck waiting for her while they operated! But it all went very well and Ruby is back to bouncing about like a very bouncy thing, even though the vet said she has to be totally non-bouncy for at least a week. She slept most of Monday when we got home, and was a tad woozy on Tuesday during the day, but at about 5pm I took her for a little saunter round the local rose garden (on a lead as per the vet's instructions) and expected her to get tired out very quickly. But no, Ruby decided she wanted to go for a much longer walkie and dragged me all the way round the big park by Blackberry Corner before marching pub-wards bound in an extremely determined manner!
While there she was patted and cuddled by her fan club for an hour or so, but eventually she got tired again and so we went back home where she scoffed down some roast chicken before getting an early night's kip on my bed and stole the blanket.
She's almost back to her normal very happy, bouncy self and so far hasn't been nibbling her stitches so she hasn't had to wear the plastic lampshade.
As usual, she's been a Very Good Dog, bless her! :o)
Unfortunately, Ruby has decided to be a left-handed golfer so these clubs - a gift from her cousin Mitchell - aren't working all that well, but Ruby loved being on the course, and I love that she may love golfing. It will give me a really good excuse to keep taking her to the course.
The New York City Department of Transportation and THE POINT Community Development Corporation have partnered with Bronx-based artist Sharon De La Cruz to present "Ruby Walks," a series of painted metal panels depicting Ruby Bridges along a bridge at Hunts Point Avenue between Bruckner Boulevard and Garrison Avenue. As part of the open call held by THE POINT, artists were asked to explore "portraits" that relate to the past and present in their surrounding neighborhood. Cruz chose the iconic image of Ruby Bridges, the first African American student to attend an all-white elementary school in the South, because she represents change, community and female empowerment.
The POINT Community Development Corporation is a non-profit organization dedicated to youth development and the cultural and economic revitalization of the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx. Through live performances, exhibitions, public art projects and community workshops, THE POINT's Arts and Cultural Programs are dedicated to the cultivation and preservation of the South Bronx culture.

Ruby is a 18 month old Golden Labradoodle who has an ear to ear smile when we go out for some ball. Nothing is better than a big smile.

Building accurate, intricate computer models that allow scientists and stakeholders to understand the interplay between Earth, water, clouds, and atmosphere is what Dr. Ruby Leung does at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. She conducts cutting-edge research and refines models that are vital to predicting climate and understanding the impact of energy policies, new technologies, and our changing climate. As an example, to better simulate climate change effects on hydrologic conditions over mountain watersheds, she developed a unique framework for modeling the regional coupled atmosphere and terrestrial systems. She also applies regional climate models to study hydroclimate processes and climate extremes, and the aerosol effects on regional climate and hydrological cycle. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. in atmospheric science from Texas A&M University. She earned a bachelor's degree in physics and statistics from Chinese University of Hong Kong, where she was the only woman in her graduating class of the physics department. Ruby is an outstanding mentor. She works closely with early career scientists and provides them with opportunities to develop new ideas and excel. She also participates as a mentor to many people through the lab's scientist and engineer development program.
