Ruby-crowned Kinglets are one of the busiest birds I have ever seen. They hardly ever sit still and are always flicking those wings. They always make me smile. Wyandotte, Kansas.
This is a lovely raspberry-strawberry-ruby chocolate mousse cake on a chocolate crumble cookie base and covered with a ruby chocolate (plus a few drops of red colouring) ganache. I have to say it looks so "professional"! Amazed that I managed this, albeit under supervision from the instructor.

"El poblet de Rúbies aplegava 44 habitants en començar el segle [XX]; a l'any 1950 n'hi quedaven encara una vintena, però d'ençà del 1970 ja havia estat abandonat per la família Baulies, la darrera que hi restava. Totes les cases s'han anat esfondrant llevat de la casa Baulies que encara se serva dreta, no sabem per quant temps." Manuel Cortès i Ribelles El Montsec i muntanyes veïnes, Centre Excursionista de Lleida, 1984.
The Hummingbirds have been everywhere this spring! I have seen them almost every day for the last few weeks and have caught them in some neat poses. Got this one with his tongue out!
The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is 7-9 cm long with an 8-11 cm wingspan, and weighs about 3 g. Adults are metallic green above and greyish white below, with near-black wings. Their bill is long, straight and very slender. It is the only species of hummingbird that regularly nests east of the Mississippi River in North America.

Ruby Tuesday was pretty excited when Charlie let her wear our very special Snuffy dress. I don't think she wants to take it off.
This is one of a pair of earrings my father bought my mother to celebrate their ruby wedding anniversary. My wife now has them so I 'borrowed' this one from her jewellery box for the theme.
The actual ruby stone measures 4.5mm across and was measured with the digital calliper which I used to illustrate 73 of 121 pictures - precision.

Ruby Red 11"x14" acrylic on gallery wrap canvas. Ripe and sassy, this elegant red is firm and sinewy, yet balanced; shows fine length and freshness, lingering easily and persisting on the lively finish. A sensual red wine pour spills over a wine goblet forming hair tresses enveloping a beautiful woman's face inside the goblet.

It can be difficult capturing these little birds perched, which only weigh an average of about 3 grams. The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is migratory, spending most of the winter in southern Mexico, Central America as far south as South America, and the West Indies.
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are solitary. Adults of this species typically only come into contact for the purpose of mating, and both males and females of any age aggressively defend feeding locations within their territory. The aggressiveness becomes most pronounced in late summer to early fall as they fatten up for migration. Some of these birds weigh as much as 7.5+ grams in preparation for the migration. This ruby-throated hummingbird was fiercely guarding the hummingbird feeder we set up at out camp site. I'm afraid she was probably devastated when we left.
