We spent a while here wathcing RT drivers grapple with the steering. Some did it in one!

Proper light bulbs making the interior warm and homely! 3764 lasted another three years.

The bonnet number of AEC Regent III (RT) bus, RT3228 (KYY 957) is seen whilst the bus is parked at North Weald Station.

Displaying full blinds all round, RT 3016 (SP) is viewed again this time on the 229 turning from Arbuthnot Road in Bridgen. It remained in service at Barking up to 7th April 1979, the last day of RT operation, working the 62 until replaced by a Routemaster during the morning. Wednesday 18th May 1977. 3T-10.

I think this may be Catford, but fon't recognise the buildings in the background.

RT in photo marks the use of radiography on pipe weld testing, indicating a less accurate method of analyzing a weld was used rather than automated ultrasonic testing or AUT.

Very well presented RT 2177 (TB) stands at the Orpington terminus of route 94 in St Andrews Drive. Two months later the vehicle was withdrawn, but happily survives today in preservatioin. Monday 23rd May 1977. 3U-9.

RT1777 and RT1784 on display at Ash Grove Garage during the 'RT 75' celebrations. RT1784 shows the restricted blind displays that were common after the Second World War due to continued shortages of materials. It is blinded up for route 10, a route which disappeared many years ago (today's route 10 is a completely different animal) but at one time ran all the way from Victoria out to the Essex village of Abridge.

'RT 75' is the first of the '2014 - Year of the Bus' celebrations, and marks the 75th anniversary of the entry into service of the first RT-types on route 22.

The event featured a number of runs by RT-family vehicles between Piccadilly Circus and Homerton, which was once part of the 22 route. Some buses also ran to and from Ash Grove Garage, where there was also a display of RT-family vehicles, including an ex-St Helens example which had come down all the way from the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum in Lathalmond, Fife.

RT 4126 is heading for Dagenham (Fords Main Works) on route 148 but I don't know where. Note the double-fronted shop of W Hanmer Ltd (looks like a greengrocer's and I remember the name) and the tall aerial on the roof above the United Friendly insurance offices. The dear old UF is no more, just like RT 4126. Location anyone?

Is it Cranbrook Road, Ilford, south of Valentines Park (the trees of which may be in the background)? Afternoon shot, sun in the SW?

I kept it portrait 'cos I like the litter in the foreground.

Lounging on the bed - Nov 2008

Seen in Bournemouth in May 1966 is FXT 318, a Trinidad Lake Asphalt tar spraying lorry which is not what it at first seems, since in 1960 it had been made from the chassis of one of the small number of "pre-war" London Transport RTs, RT 143. I believe that it survives today awaiting restoration. The photograph, like many of mine for the period, is rather out of focus, but I still think worth posting for both the subject and the background - such as the long white coat on what appears to be a traffic policeman opn point duty behind the lorry.

RT 3180 of Seven Kings garage is turning out of Argyle Road, Ilford into York Road where it will lay over until its next duty on route 129. Note the uninformative blind display for some reason used for this route until the advent of RMs. DMS 1866 of Walthamstow (WW) is in pursuit.

Weaving it's way around St Paul's Cray estate and seen in Chipperfield Road, is RT 2944 (SP) on the 229 during its last week in revenue earning service. The following week it was transferred to Bexleyheath as a trainer where it remained for a further eight months until being sent to Wombwell Diesels for scrap. Thursday 19th May 1977. 3U-2.

A three man recon team patrols a beach scouting for Covenant activity. Recon ODST's are a dangerous breed, some comparing them to old school SEALs, and SOG. Keeping with that comparison, the recon teams have named themselves after planets in the colonies, whereas the teams of old named themselves after States, or hardware tools depending on the recon company. Phil has caught me at the wheel of RT 1 pulling up to or away from the stop by Bromley garage during the routes 61/261 running day organised by the London Bus Museum.

Such a privilege to be able to drive this very special vehicle.
