I saw this in the pilot's room at the Moffett Field flight center, and I love it... it's a visual guide to the air traffic routes used at various aiports around the San Francisco Bay Area.

It also does a lot to explain all the air traffic I see above our home... turns out, we live beneath three major flightpaths. From the ground it all seems somewhat random, but now that I've seen this route plan, the orientation and altitudes of the planes I see over our house every day make a lot more sense.

UPDATE: There's a clean version of this graphic, here.

The sunlight comes into the flat in the afternoon now. The photos are my grandsons.

I just picked these up and wished I had them before this last western trip. They are great for following 2 lane blacktop.

Another close up of a tree, some lovely bark and lichen for you.

Photographs taken using my new RED lens filter. It was a lovely evening anyway, but I liked the red/pink glow and ambience it gave.

For many years the majority of petrol (gas or gasoline) and oil companies produced road maps and guides to help the happy motorist navigate their way around. Such publications also helped promote and market the various companies in the days when many motorists 'stuck' to one brand of petrol or oil. This was heavily promoted in post-WW2 years in the UK when 'pool petrol' and fuel rationing was abolished in the early 1950s.

The companies usually used existing cartographers to produce their maps and here Stanford's of London have provided the base mapping for the Esso Road Maps. This series appears to be dated to the late 1950s (one has a revision date of 1958) and the covers are, I'm sure, by Chris D Watkiss an established artist and illustrator who also produced advertising materials for car manufacturers at the time. The majority of this set was handed out at the Lea Hall Garage Ltd, of Armitage Road, Rugeley in Staffordshire.

Section 5 for Northern England has a cover showing the Lake District and Westmorland by artist C D Watkiss.

Giant Rhubarb Roadmap

Backlit leaf of Giant Rhubarb, Gunnera macinta. These leaves are enormous, growing up to 7 feet in diameter. I found this one growing in one of the ponds in The Lost Valley at The Lost Gardens of Heligan near Mevagissey in Cornwall and had lots of people staring curiously at me, wondering what I was doing crouched under this enormous leaf taking photos of its underside. Perhaps if they see this they'll understand! It looks like an aerial photograph of a rain forest.

My Dad travelled a lot for his work, this is the roadmap he used, not much use anymore :)

He also loved nature, birdwatching, and so he always carried his binoculars and his birdbook on his trips.

My Dad passed away when I was 13 and he was just 43, so I don't have too many memories of him.

I remember his laugh, boy could he laugh. He also loved making jokes and teasing us.

Everything I have of him is so dear to me.

AECOM – (Ljungby and Toftanäs, Sweden)

The primary goal of this SEK 1 billion project is to create a motorway link with minimal impact on the local community. Encompassing four interchanges, 28 bridges (nine over and 19 along the E4, including two over rivers), AECOM was responsible for the preliminary design and environmental impact assessment for 31.5 kilometers of the E4 between Ljungby and Toftanäs in Småland, Sweden.

Involving more than 15 subconsultants in Poland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, AECOM required a well-defined data environment and workflow. Using Bentley Descartes, Bentley Pointools, InRoads, MicroStation, OpenRoads, and ProjectWise, the team was able to enforce CAD and civil software standards across all design teams. Extensive utilization of 3D modeling streamlined collaboration and allowed for earlier clash detection.
