Jealousy towards her more popular twin sister finally took its toll

I took a run up to Rannoch Moor last weekend hoping to get some interesting sunrise images as I knew the forecast was for fog. It was however just a little too thick and none of the colours filter through to light the cloud above. I decide to change my plan and head for Glencoe in the hope of getting the mighty Buachaille Etive Mor with some of the fog banks surrounding the moor below, but was disappointed to find him completely shrouded from view.

In a last ditch attempt to try and salvage something from this trip I then headed round to his little brother and I was not disheartened with what I found.

This an area I've never shot and the slowing moving fog banks gave some very interesting compositions as the sun slowly rose and illuminated the peak of the mountain.

It didn't last long though and soon thicker cloud rolled in and the light was lost.

It was worth the perseverance as I very nearly just gave up and headed home.

An adult male tries and tries unsuccessfully to swallow one of our grapes before the juvenile male gets fed up and kicks him off the fence. You can hear one of the females whistle-calling in the background right at the very end.

Two male red breasted mergansers in a little competition for the ladies on Lake Ontario, Toronto, Canada.

"The breeding range of the red-breasted merganser generally extends farther north and not as far south as the common merganser. The principal region of overlap is in southeastern and southern Canada. Although red-breasted mergansers breed over most of Alaska, including the Aleutian Islands, they are most abundant on areas adjacent to the Bering Sea. They nest east through the tundra of Labrador and northern Quebec to central Baffin Island. They also lay sole claim to the tundra along the southern and west coasts of Hudson Bay, north to Eskimo Point and Coronation Gulf, then south through the tundra and most of the open boreal forests of the Northwest and Yukon territories."

The longstanding rivalry between the Lion Knights and the Black Falcons ended over a friendly cup of coffee :-) This is a very rare moment when Keira the Knight is actually awake!

I was saving this to upload on National Friendship day but I missed it (it was back in August). Oops. So now it's an early "National Coffee Day" photo :-)

I really seem to have a habit of coming across ladybirds, i found this again from looking through some of my photos from a few weeks back and again edited using Lightroom, please express your opinion and tell me what you think, thanks.

Two Great Blue Heron chicks testing each other under the watchful eye of their parent. These chicks look to be about one week to 10 days old and very feisty with each other. So far this is only the 2nd set of Great Blue Heron chicks that have hatched at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands.

Safari Sunday...

Greetings from Bend, OR!!!

Closely grouped volcanic peaks aptly named Three Sisters by early Methodist settlers compete for space in the Cascade Wilderness. The eldest sibling called “Faith”, long considered extinct, towers high with rock pinnacles and glaciers. The smallest middle sister named “Hope” consists of primarily basalt rock, having lost her original coned form by glaciations. “Charity”, the youngest- yet tallest of the trio, dutifully holds the highest ‘crater’ lake in Oregon.

why does nearly every friendship have to be a competition? sometimes it's the biggest part of one, sometimes only a little....but rivalry always kinda exists even you think or wish it wouldn't.

A pair of fox kits play near their den on the tundra of Alaska. There were six kits in this particular den and they were always entertaining. It's heart breaking that the fox only live between 2 and 4 years, but their lives are full of excitement and energy.

best regards from cologne... ;)

It's the same old story of sibling rivalry. Squeak and Pip are both interested in the leading role of the play, Silence of the Ewes. They haven't talked to each other in a week. Things were exacerbated when Pip blurted out, "there's no way we had the same Dad!"

Pied Kingfisher, The Gambia

The pied kingfisher (Ceryle rudis) is a species of water kingfisher widely distributed across Africa and Asia.

These two are just so funny! One minute, they are rubbing noses, then the next, they are squabbling! Just like "real" kids!! :)
