The Jack Bates Drilling Rig moored beside Cromarty Links. She being supplied by the MV Rosehaugh, which was the Kessock Ferry between Inverness and the Black Isle until replaced by the Kessock Bridge in 1984. After serving as a Ferry at Corran in Lochaber, she is now a rig supply vessel in the Cromarty Firth.
Since 2005 the Jack Bates has been working in the Bass Straight between Tasmania and Australia.

A variation on my first prototype which was 30 grams. This model is a scant 20 grams and most any KAP kite will launch this rig with ease even in marginal winds. Utterly simple and supremely ultralight, yet fully functional with main tilt angles of 10, 20, 45, 60 and 80 degrees, and intermediate tilt angles of 15, 30, 50 and 70 degrees. The polished aluminum cradle has a nylon mounting bolt, with a slot large enough to be able to use any available coin, and a rubber retaining O-ring to prevent its loss. Foam pads flank the mount bolt to secure the camera and prevent its movement within the cradle, as well as provide clearance for the bolt retaining ring. Ball bearing snap swivels are rated at 150# and allow the rig to rotate freely from the kite line. Alternatively, as in the first proto, a 'half picavet' can be used if free rotation is not desired. Obviously the center of gravity of the mounted camera moderates the angles. Listed here are the resultant tilt angles which are for the Canon S90 which I use for KAP purposes and for which this rig was specifically designed.
