One of the main reasons I went to Burning Man this year was the Big Rig Jig. My friend Mike Ross showed me his blueprints last Spring, and I decided then and there I had to see it for myself. I don't know if I believed they would pull it off - the scope of the project was so massive.

But pull it off they did! And It was more striking in person than I could have ever imagined. The sculpture belongs in a museum, or a public art garden. Anyone with connections to this sort of thing -- contact me! This piece needs to travel the world.

A video interview with Mike Ross about the beautiful Big Rig Jig. It explains the piece and shows how it was made and then installed on the Playa, including the interior.

Big Rig Jig

by Mike Ross

Big Rig Jig is a rumination on power as manifest in the relationship between humankind and nature. We hope to instill thoughts of wonder, fear, instability, nature, and beauty. And we are going to do this by literally cutting up pieces of the oil industry and thrusting them into the air. The sculpture is fashioned from real oil tankers and filled with lush silk plant life, a reminder of the ultimate source of the black gold once transported inside them.

Our source objects are fundamental to the world's oil distribution infrastructure, and are pertinent examples of our culture's unmatched production of carbon dioxide. By altering these symbolically rich objects, the sculpture is a celebration of humankind's raw power on earth, a visual metaphor for non-sustainability, and a contemplation of our unique ability to recognize and change our most destructive actions.

We drove into Cromarty on one of our stops and came across numerous decomissioned Oil Rigs, with it being a miserable but very still day the Rigs seemed to loom out of the mist and rain.

Another contribution for FebRovery, though this time as part of a collab with Marin and Aron! We each contributed one inspiration image to a mood board , and then all designed new rovers based off those three images. It was a really fun project and I also took this an opportunity to try motorizing a rover for the first time. I copied the general setup of motors from the App Controlled Batmobile, so it doesn't have articulated steering just left and right drive.

Video covering some of the build process and showing the rover in action is available on Brickbuilt.

Now after three months of building I finished my oil rig. It´s one meter wide and 1,1 meter high and weights over 42 kg.

I put all parts of a refinery on it and tried to connect them all with pipes (not everything was possible). The pipes are made out of around 1500 1x1 round bricks and 600 2x2 round bricks that would be together over 16 meters long. The crane can lift up to 500 g.

A beautiful brunette swimsuit bikini model shooting Stills (Nikon D800 with the 70-200 mm) & Video (Sony NEX-6 F/1.8 50mm Prime).

Here is some video of the blue-eyed goddess I shot with the rig she is holding: youtu.be/zzbV8ArnBnY

Watch in Full HD! Amazing creamy bokeh from the F/1.8 50 mm Lens, as I kept it wide open all day! With the Sony Alpha NEX-6's awesome face recognition and autofocus, the video stayed focused on her pretty blue eyes throughout, even as she moved around while I shot stills with the D800!

As the Sony NEX-6 has a crop sensor, the 50mm lens is equivalent to around 80mm on the D800 Full-Frame Sensor, so it works nicely with the 70-200 mm F/2.8 VR2 Nikkor lens!

Shot with the Sony A77, she's holding a Nikon D800 and Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II AF-S Nikkor Zoom Lens, as well as a Sony NEX-6 with a 50mm f/1.8 Mid-Range Lens E Mount Nex Cameras.

All the best on your Hero's Journey! May the HJM goddesses inspire ye along yer way!

Length: 79.50m | Rig: Barque 3

The Guayas is a beautiful three-masted barque. She was built in Bilbao, Spain and is named after the river on which the Ecuadorian Naval School is situated.

She has been taking cadets from this college since she was launched in 1976. The school was founded by the liberator of South America, Simon Bolivar and since 1822 has a history of training youngsters for a naval career.

Drilling rig in south Oklahoma. The life blood of Oklahoma oil.

Was very happy to see this KW in person, it looks really good, and i am very big fan of American cabover trucks.

"Functional, comfortable, durable and lightweight, tac-coats began to see more and more use up near the front lines where both the weather and dangers remained utterly unpredictable."

Sort of adhocing and making a coat as I go. Which is usually not suggestible, but it's working out well enough so far. This is still really early though, mostly blocking out elements. Will be rigged mesh.

Taken: NJ, USA. Sorry about the quality.
