A southbound KCS coal train has a slow go in a steady rain as it nears the top of the grade at Rich Mountain.
I was surprised, as always, by how easy the act of leaving was, and how good it felt. The world was suddenly rich with possibility.

Our road trip has taken us in the city of Madurai which is known as the City of Nectar. It is said that drops of nectar fell from the coils of Shiva's hair onto the city. This is the Sri Meenakshi Temple which dates back to the 1st Century AD. Much of the temple was restored and added to in the 16th and 17th century. The temple was dedicated to the consort of Shiva.
The history of India is so ancient and so complicated. The workmanship found on the well preserved temples always is always remarkable. Such a beautiful building deserves and art gallery frame!

A close-up done with the 7Artisans manual lens at F1.2. The photographic discussion sometimes refers to "dream lenses", often super-fast vintage lenses that produce soft and rich images. I found that this little Chinese lens does similar things when used wide-open, in particular when backlit. If sharp focus is not your primary aim, then this tiny and inexpensive piece of glass would be an option.
I've said before that Canada in the Fall has to be one of the most beautiful places you could possibly be. I was so pleased my Mum decided to come over on a holiday with me :)
My cousin, Lynn was a wonderful host and she brought us to so many different locations while we were staying with her... On this occasion, it was Hilton Falls, in Milton, Ontario... We watched black squirrels, chipmunks and blue jays and forgot just how far the walk was by admiring the beautiful rich golds of the leaves through the forest :)
We were so blessed on this holiday with such amazing weather, only a couple of days was there a little drizzle and we'd been shopping on those days, so it didn't matter too much :)

KCS Train GKCAD-18 is nearing the summit of the grueling Rich Mountain Grade deep in the Ouachita Mountains that boarder Oklahoma and Arkansas. Screaming their version of Rich Mountain Music is the combination of EMD and GE products fighting against the forces of gravity to lug this heavy grain train up and over the famous grade between Heavener Oklahoma and Mena Arkansas.

Three DPUs bring up the tail end of a loaded TXUX coal train fighting the last miles of the thirteen mile ascent up Rich Mountain. The train will meet two northbounds at the top of the mountain and then continue on its merry way on towards Texarkana.
As I was starting to make supper tonight I glanced out the kitchen window and saw this. Needless to say, I turned off the stove and grabbed my camera. These opportunities are rare and I am quite fortunate to be surrounded by golden fields with distant tree lines both to the east and to the west and can capture beautiful mornings and evenings form my yard.

"Fujiwara Takahiro’s "Into the Blue" is a giant, illuminated, transparent cone-shaped balloon. Its shape is achieved through the stacking of inflatable donut-shaped soft acrylic tubes of successively diminishing sizes. Floating in the middle of the Eaton Centre, "Into the Blue" will present two distinct faces. From a distance, it will reflect and refract the surrounding light. Up close, one will be able to walk beneath the work and experience it as an environment. Looking up into the interior will present a dazzling light array, refracted through the complex layers of soft acrylic material."
