Our road trip has taken us in the city of Madurai which is known as the City of Nectar. It is said that drops of nectar fell from the coils of Shiva's hair onto the city. This is the Sri Meenakshi Temple which dates back to the 1st Century AD. Much of the temple was restored and added to in the 16th and 17th century. The temple was dedicated to the consort of Shiva.
The history of India is so ancient and so complicated. The workmanship found on the well preserved temples always is always remarkable. Such a beautiful building deserves and art gallery frame!

Il s'adapte en toutes régions même les plus froides puisqu'il résiste jusqu'à -20°C. Tout type de sol convient, même médiocre mais il poussera d'autant mieux qu'il sera riche et frais.

This lovely species is endemic to the Ouachita Mountains of southeastern Arkansas and Southwestern Oklahoma.

The 11AM Anchorage yard job with MP15DC 1553 seen pulling a small cut off 189 flats the US Army Fort Richardson loop area for this first time in over a decade. This test load of Strykers and other equipment will be pulled back to the ARR's main yard for forwarding north back to Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks regular freight service.

KCS Train GKCAD-18 is nearing the summit of the grueling Rich Mountain Grade deep in the Ouachita Mountains that boarder Oklahoma and Arkansas. Screaming their version of Rich Mountain Music is the combination of EMD and GE products fighting against the forces of gravity to lug this heavy grain train up and over the famous grade between Heavener Oklahoma and Mena Arkansas.

Passing former Ottawa Central Railway interchange yard with CN at left, former OCR employee N.P and B.M were homeward-bound on L589 job on this rainy afternoon, bringing a short 12-car train back to Ottawa's Walkley Yard.
Richer, named to honour an influent family of CN railroaders from Coteau Station, is the junction point between VIA and CN ownership of the Alexandria subdivision.
The metal box at far left was OCR office back when the former ran a nightly five-days-a-week turn out of Ottawa, bringing Ottawa Valley cars to CN for forwarding around its system.
Sadly, CN bought back the OCR in November 2008, the same year OCR's biggest customer, Smurfit Stone's Portage du Fort paper plant, closed after more than a hundred years of operation.

Three DPUs bring up the tail end of a loaded TXUX coal train fighting the last miles of the thirteen mile ascent up Rich Mountain. The train will meet two northbounds at the top of the mountain and then continue on its merry way on towards Texarkana.

L'emplacement actuel de l'église, rue de la Paroisse, a été déterminé en 1554, sa première pierre posée en 1565 sa construction se terminant en 1585. si elle fut épargnée lors du siège de 1639, elle subit des dégâts durant la Révolution.
De type Hallekerke flamand sans transept elle a été restaurée à la fin du XIXème siècle par l’architecte hesdinois Clovis Normand. Richement meublée des éléments des églises des jésuites et des Récollets, elle présente un mariage heureux de divers styles.
Le portail, construit en pierre en 1582, de style Renaissance, présente un net contraste avec le reste de l’édifice en brique. Deux grands pilastres corinthiens supportent une attique où figurent les armes d’Hesdin, de l’Empire d’Autriche, d’Espagne et d’Artois. Le tympan, endommagé à la Révolution évoque une nativité de la Vierge à laquelle l’église est dédiée : lit à baldaquin, foyer, arcs classiques.
A l'intérieur, l’ensemble est séparé en deux parties par un mur pignon : d’une part les trois nefs à cinq travées, de l’autre le chœur. L’abside date de 1690. Le riche mobilier provient pour une part du couvent des Récollets proche de l’église : le portail aux six colonnes corinthiennes, les boiseries, l’autel de la chapelle de la Vierge, la chaire, les stalles, les confessionnaux superbement travaillés. Les vitraux sont particulièrement riches en coloris en rapport avec l’Évangile et l’histoire locale.
Le carillon est composé de 13 cloches et joue un air Din l’cuin d’min fu (Dans le coin de mon feu). Trois cloches sont dans le clocher. L plus grosse, Cécile, pèse 2600 kg, la moyenne Henriette Pauline, 900 kg, et la petite, Marie Danièle, 200 kg.

A week and a half ago, a terrible storm blew through Ottawa (and points east and west). People were killed by the storm, and many more people suffered damage to homes and vehicles, some of them my neighbours. A huge thank you to first responders and to the amazing, tireless hydro crews (including those from as far away as New Brunswick) who worked tirelessly to bring us back.
My narrative about birding the migration in Prince Edward County seemed way less important. But we had no power until last night so it didn’t matter anyway. I flew to St. John’s for work and got power when I arrived last night just as my family got theirs back at home.
And so the migration continues. In Prince Edward County during my visit - a mere but rich 72 hours - there were two species that arrived in large numbers - ‘flocks’ seemed the right word, though not one applied to these species previously in my experience.
Rose-breasted Grosbeaks were everywhere. Including scrapping with Chipping Sparrows for wild seed on the ground. Part of the fun of a large number of birds in a single species is getting to see the variability in plumage. This male is young, and transitioning to mature colours.

As I was starting to make supper tonight I glanced out the kitchen window and saw this. Needless to say, I turned off the stove and grabbed my camera. These opportunities are rare and I am quite fortunate to be surrounded by golden fields with distant tree lines both to the east and to the west and can capture beautiful mornings and evenings form my yard.
"Fujiwara Takahiro’s "Into the Blue" is a giant, illuminated, transparent cone-shaped balloon. Its shape is achieved through the stacking of inflatable donut-shaped soft acrylic tubes of successively diminishing sizes. Up close, one will be able to walk beneath the work and experience it as an environment. Looking up into the interior will present a dazzling light array, refracted through the complex layers of soft acrylic material."
