Sydney Metro prepares for the arrival of TBM Kathleen, currently being prepared at Barangaroo. Here are a series of shots taken on the morning of 21 March 2019 These show the partly constructed acoustic shed, the crane that will lift the tunnel boring machine out of the ground, and the ramp that will connect to the barge which will transport Kathleen back to Barangaroo in readiness for her return trip!

The excavation of the shaft at the Blues Point Retrieval Site is now complete and preparations are being made for the arrival of the tunnel boring machines. Over the next three moths TBMs Kathleen, Wendy and Mabel with complete their journeys (the former from Barangaroo, the latter from Chatswood). Each will be winched from the floor of the shaft and barged to Barangaroo. Kathleen will complete a second tunnel before the task is completed in the first few moths of 2020.
A Community and Information day was held, on site, on Saturday 28 September. Representatives from Sydney Metro, Transport for NSW, and the contractors, John Holland GPB Ghella were on hand to answer questions.
The latter are building the 15.5 km twin railway tunnels between Chatswood and Sydenham, and excavating six new metro stations.

Improving observations and retrievals from NASA satellites, airborne instruments, and ground stations are showing the impact of dust and black carbon on snow and glacier melt in the mountains and polar regions of the globe. In snow, these particles absorb sunlight and quickly transfer that energy into warmth, which melts that snow faster.
In the Colorado Rocky Mountains snowpack, dust from disturbed deserts of the West has increased by 500 percent and shortened snow cover duration by a month or more. This means the early meltwater is available to plants earlier in the spring, lengthening the growing season. The vegetation has more time to transpire water back into the atmosphere. As a result, 5 percent less water from the total snowpack flows into the Upper Colorado River as runoff.
Worldwide, pollution from industrialization and land cover change have and continue to impact both nearby and remote snow and ice. In the coming years, the combination of observations and modeling will give scientists a quantitative knowledge of these impacts that can improve our climate modeling and water resource management.

The Kunsthistorisches Museum (KHM abbreviated) is an art museum in Vienna. It is one of the largest and most important museums in the world. It was opened in 1891 and 2012 visited of 1.351.940 million people.
The museum
The Kunsthistorisches Museum is with its opposite sister building, the Natural History Museum (Naturhistorisches Museum), the most important historicist large buildings of the Ringstrasse time. Together they stand around the Maria Theresa square, on which also the Maria Theresa monument stands. This course spans the former glacis between today's ring road and 2-line, and is forming a historical landmark that also belongs to World Heritage Site Historic Centre of Vienna.
History

The Museum came from the collections of the Habsburgs, especially from the portrait and armor collections of Ferdinand of Tyrol, the collection of Emperor Rudolf II (most of which, however scattered) and the art collection of Archduke Leopold Wilhelm into existence. Already In 1833 asked Joseph Arneth, curator (and later director) of the Imperial Coins and Antiquities Cabinet, bringing together all the imperial collections in a single building.
Architectural History
The contract to build the museum in the city had been given in 1858 by Emperor Franz Joseph. Subsequently, many designs were submitted for the ring road zone. Plans by August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Null planned to build two museum buildings in the immediate aftermath of the Imperial Palace on the left and right of the Heroes' Square (Heldenplatz). The architect Ludwig Förster planned museum buildings between the Schwarzenberg Square and the City Park, Martin Ritter von Kink favored buildings at the corner Währinger street/Scots ring (Schottenring), Peter Joseph, the area Bellariastraße, Moritz von Loehr the south side of the Opera ring, and Ludwig Zettl the southeast side of the Grain market (Getreidemarkt).
From 1867, a competition was announced for the museums, and thereby set their current position - at the request of the Emperor, the museum should not be too close to the Imperial Palace, but arise beyond the ring road. The architect Carl von Hasenauer participated in this competition and was able the at that time in Zürich operating Gottfried Semper to encourage to work together. The two museum buildings should be built here in the sense of the style of the Italian Renaissance. The plans got the benevolence of the imperial family. In April 1869, there was an audience of Joseph Semper with the Emperor Franz Joseph and an oral contract was concluded, in July 1870 was issued the written order to Semper and Hasenauer.
Crucial for the success of Semper and Hasenauer against the projects of other architects were among others Semper's vision of a large building complex called "Imperial Forum", in which the museums would have been a part of. Not least by the death of Semper in 1879 came the Imperial Forum not as planned for execution, the two museums were built, however.
Construction of the two museums began without ceremony on 27 November 1871 instead. Semper subsequently moved to Vienna. From the beginning on, there were considerable personal differences between him and Hasenauer, who finally in 1877 took over sole construction management. 1874, the scaffolds were placed up to the attic and the first floor completed, in 1878, the first windows installed, in 1879, the Attica and the balustrade finished, and from 1880 to 1881 the dome and the Tabernacle built. The dome is topped with a bronze statue of Pallas Athena by Johannes Benk.
The lighting and air conditioning concept with double glazing of the ceilings made the renunciation of artificial light (especially at that time, as gas light) possible, but this resulted due to seasonal variations depending on daylight to different opening times.

The Kunsthistorisches Museum was on 17 October 1891 officially opened by Emperor Franz Joseph I. Since 22 October 1891, the museum is accessible to the public. Two years earlier, on 3 November 1889, the collection of arms, Arms and Armour today, had their doors open. On 1 January 1890 the library service resumed its operations. The merger and listing of other collections of the Highest Imperial Family from the Upper and Lower Belvedere, the Hofburg Palace and Ambras in Tyrol needs another two years.

Very soon the room the Court Museum (Hofmuseum) for the imperial collections was offering became too narrow. To provide temporary help, an exhibition of ancient artifacts from Ephesus in the Theseus Temple was designed. However, additional space had to be rented in the Lower Belvedere.
1914, after the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, heir to the throne, his "Estensische Sammlung (Collection)" passed to the administration of the Court Museum. This collection, which emerged from the art collection of the house of d'Este and world travel collection of Franz Ferdinand, was placed in the New Imperial Palace since 1908. For these stocks, the present collection of old musical instruments and the Museum of Ethnology emerged.
The First World War went by, apart from the oppressive economic situation without loss. The Court museum remained during the five years of war regularly open to the public.
Until 1919 the K.K. Art Historical Court Museum was under the authority of the Oberstkämmereramt (head chamberlain office) and belonged to the House of Habsburg-Lorraine. The officials and employees were part of the royal household.
First Republic
The transition from monarchy to republic, in the museum took place in complete tranquility. On 19 November 1918 the two imperial museums on Maria Theresa Square were placed under the state protection of the young Republic of German Austria. Threatening to the stocks of the museum were the claims raised in the following weeks and months of the "successor states" of the monarchy as well as Italy and Belgium on Austrian art collection. In fact, it came on 12th February 1919 to the violent removal of 62 paintings by armed Italian units. This "art theft" left a long time trauma among curators and art historians.
It was not until the Treaty of Saint-Germain on 10 September 1919, providing in Article 195 and 196 the settlement of rights in the cultural field by negotiations. The claims of Belgium, Czechoslovakia, and Italy again could mostly being averted in this way. Only Hungary, which presented the greatest demands by far, was met by more than ten years of negotiation in 147 cases.
On 3 April 1919 was the expropriation of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine by law and the acquisition of its property, including the "Collections of the Imperial House", by the Republic. On 18 June 1920 the then provisional administration of the former imperial museums and collections of Este and the secular and clergy treasury passed to the State Office of Internal Affairs and Education, since 10 November 1920, the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Education. A few days later it was renamed the Art History Court Museum in the "Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna State", 1921 "Kunsthistorisches Museum" . Of 1st January 1921 the employees of the museum staff passed to the state of the Republic.
Through the acquisition of the former imperial collections owned by the state, the museum found itself in a complete new situation. In order to meet the changed circumstances in the museum area, designed Hans Tietze in 1919 the "Vienna Museum program". It provided a close cooperation between the individual museums to focus at different houses on main collections. So dominated exchange, sales and equalizing the acquisition policy in the interwar period. Thus resulting until today still valid collection trends. Also pointing the way was the relocation of the weapons collection from 1934 in its present premises in the New Castle, where since 1916 the collection of ancient musical instruments was placed.
With the change of the imperial collections in the ownership of the Republic the reorganization of the internal organization went hand in hand, too. Thus the museum was divided in 1919 into the

The Museum 1938-1945
Count Philipp Ludwig Wenzel Sinzendorf according to Rigaud. Clarisse 1948 by Baroness de Rothschildt "dedicated" to the memory of Baron Alphonse de Rothschildt; restituted to the Rothschilds in 1999, and in 1999 donated by Bettina Looram Rothschild, the last Austrian heiress.
With the "Anschluss" of Austria to the German Reich all Jewish art collections such as the Rothschilds were forcibly "Aryanised". Collections were either "paid" or simply distributed by the Gestapo at the museums. This resulted in a significant increase in stocks. But the KHM was not the only museum that benefited from the linearization. Systematically looted Jewish property was sold to museums, collections or in pawnshops throughout the German Reich.
After the war, the museum struggled to reimburse the "Aryanised" art to the owners or their heirs. They forced the Rothschild family to leave the most important part of their own collection to the museum and called this "dedications", or "donations". As a reason, was the export law stated, which does not allow owners to bring certain works of art out of the country. Similar methods were used with other former owners. Only on the basis of international diplomatic and media pressure, to a large extent from the United States, the Austrian government decided to make a change in the law (Art Restitution Act of 1998, the so-called Lex Rothschild). The art objects were the Rothschild family refunded only in the 1990s.
The Kunsthistorisches Museum operates on the basis of the federal law on the restitution of art objects from the 4th December 1998 (Federal Law Gazette I, 181 /1998) extensive provenance research. Even before this decree was carried out in-house provenance research at the initiative of the then archive director Herbert Haupt. To this end was submitted in 1998 by him in collaboration with Lydia Grobl a comprehensive presentation of the facts about the changes in the inventory levels of the Kunsthistorisches Museum during the Nazi era and in the years leading up to the State Treaty of 1955, an important basis for further research provenance.
The two historians Susanne Hehenberger and Monika Löscher are since 1st April 2009 as provenance researchers at the Kunsthistorisches Museum on behalf of the Commission for Provenance Research operating and they deal with the investigation period from 1933 to the recent past.
The museum today
Today the museum is as a federal museum, with 1st January 1999 released to the full legal capacity - it was thus the first of the state museums of Austria, implementing the far-reaching self-financing. It is by far the most visited museum in Austria with 1.3 million visitors (2007).
The Kunsthistorisches Museum is under the name Kunsthistorisches Museum and Museum of Ethnology and the Austrian Theatre Museum with company number 182081t since 11 June 1999 as a research institution under public law of the Federal virtue of the Federal Museums Act, Federal Law Gazette I/115/1998 and the Museum of Procedure of the Kunsthistorisches Museum and Museum of Ethnology and the Austrian Theatre Museum, 3 January 2001, BGBl II 2/ 2001, in force since 1 January 2001, registered.
In fiscal 2008, the turnover was 37.185 million EUR and total assets amounted to EUR 22.204 million. In 2008 an average of 410 workers were employed.

This week has seen the return of the barge to the Blues point Retrieval site as the dismantling of TBM Kathleen continues. Three shots showing this operation as two tugs bring the barge into position. This is followed by a shot showing material being stowed on the vessel.

Jean-François Perroy, conosciuto con lo pseudonimo di Jef Aérosol (1957, Nantes) è pioniere incontrastato della street art internazionale. Jef realizza senza distinzione ritratti di personaggi pubblici o di grande notorietà, e di figure anonime, artisti di strada, passanti, mendicanti, bambini; tutti preferibilmente in bianco e nero e contraddistinti dalla enigmatica freccia rossa, celebre firma e "marchio di fabbrica" dell'artista. Attori del panorama visivo contemporaneo, i personaggi di Jef sembrano infine tutti assomigliarsi, come esito e specchio contraddittorio del medesimo tessuto collettivo che li ha determinati.
Per “Anony(fa)mous”, la sua prima mostra personale in Italia, attraverso forme iconiche e stereotipate di fama e anonimato, Jef indagherà il limitare sottile tra celebrità assoluta e assoluto oblio, alla ricerca del punto invisibile dove gli estremi si incontrano e si identificano, per annullarsi, sempre. Personaggi famosi e gente comune, giovani e anziani saranno insieme rappresentati per fare emergere la pura umanità di ognuno. Senza distinzioni, in una sfida divertita e aperta ai meccanismi della comunicazione contemporanea, capace di glorificare e condannare, stabilire importanza e nullità di esistenze private parimenti degne di attenzione e rispetto. Come Jef ci rivela: "Io faccio degli anonimi una star e rendo anonimi i famosi. Li riporto al loro “status umano”, insistendo sul fatto che, famosi o no, siamo tutti uguali e una star è un uomo prima di qualsiasi altra cosa".
L’artista ha collaborato con gallerie, musei ed istituzioni di massimo livello internazionale. Suo è il leggendario “Chuuuttt!!!”, un’opera di 350m² eseguita accanto ed in collaborazione con il Centre George Pompidou di Parigi.
Come anteprima alla mostra, il 20 maggio l’artista ha realizzato un’opera permanente in situ sui muri dell’Institut français - Centre Saint-Louis (Largo Toniolo 22, Roma). Altri interventi di street art saranno realizzati all’interno della città di Roma, a incipit e prosieguo ideali delle opere in galleria.
Wunderkammern presenta "Anony(fa)mous", la prima mostra personale in Italia del celebre artista francese Jef Aérosol - via Gabrio Serbelloni 124, Roma.

AIRS radiances and standard retrievals were used to obtain thin cirrus particle size and optical depth over the tropical oceans. (a) Normalized probability distribution of cloud top temperature for a total of 29 days. Histograms are partitioned into 5 bins of (0.0-0.1, 0.1-0.25, 0.25-0.5, 0.5-0.75, and 0.75-1.0). (B) Joint probability distributions of cloud top temperature and particle size for the same time period and intervals as (A). (C) Histograms of particle size for the same bins listed in (B). These results illustrate the usefulness of AIRS to characterize the cloudy atmosphere in the upper tropical troposphere. They also show that particle size tends to increase with optical depth and cloud top temperature, results that are consistent from other studies that use satellite, surface-based, or aircraft observational platforms.

The Atmospheric Infrared Sounder, AIRS, in conjunction with the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit, AMSU, sense emitted infrared and microwave radiation from the Earth to provide a three-dimensional look at Earth's weather and climate. Working in tandem, the two instruments make simultaneous observations all the way down to the Earth's surface, even in the presence of heavy clouds. With more than 2,000 channels sensing different regions of the atmosphere, the system creates a global, 3-dimensional map of atmospheric temperature and humidity, cloud amounts and heights, greenhouse gas concentrations, and many other atmospheric phenomena. The AIRS and AMSU fly onboard NASA's Aqua spacecraft and are managed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California, under contract to NASA. JPL is a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.

How to get the AIRS data
NASA released new photos and video animations depicting the agency's planned mission to find, capture, redirect, and study a near-Earth asteroid. The images depict crew operations including the Orion spacecraft's trip to and rendezvous with the relocated asteroid, as well as astronauts maneuvering through a spacewalk to collect samples from the asteroid.
Tripod retrieval team - at our visit 2 weeks ago, I fell in/dropped my tripod in an 8 feet deep hole... anyway got it back :-)

Gerhard Berger wollte immer schon einen Formel 1 von Jochen Rindt fahren. Joe Willenpart, damaliger Besitzer des Original-Lotus, erfüllte ihm diesem Wunsch.
Lotus 49R6 B/C - Car of F1-Champion Jochen Rindt, Austria (1969/1970):
Es handelt sich bei dem Lotus 49 um jene Chassisnummer R6 auf der Graham Hill 1968 den Mexico-GP und Jochen Rindt 1970 durch ein exzellentes Überholmanöver in der letzten Runde den Grand Prix von Monaco gewann.
1969 kollabierte bei Hill und Rindt in Barcelona der Heckflügel, ab Zanvoort saß Rindt in Hills reparierter Chassisnummer R6, er fuhr sofort Pole, im Rennen riß die Halbachse.
In Watkins Glen gewann Rindt damit seinen ersten Grand Prix. Das Auto mit dem 450 PS starken Coswort DFV-Achtzylinder wurde bei Hall & Hall in England komplett restauriert und war im Besitz von Joe Willenpart aus Scheibbs (A).

Wie so viele Konstruktionen von Colin Chapman wurde auch der Lotus 49 bei einem Abendessen auf einer Serviette skizziert.
Was dann am 4. Juni 1967 in Zandvoort unter Jim Clark und Graham Hill seine Rennpremiere hatte, und Clark zum Sieg führte, war der erste Formel 1, dessen Motor (Cosworth DFV) speziell für das Auto und das Auto speziell um diesem Motor herum gebaut wurde.
Der Lotus 49, der 13 Jahre nach dem Mercedes W196 erschien, sollte die Formel 1 verändern.
Am 9. Juni 1968 debütierte ein Lotus 49 mit Chassisnummer R6 im Belgien GP. In Monza erschien ein neues Chassis mit Nummer R6.
Hill fuhr R6 in Canada auf Rang vier, in Watkins Glen wurde er zweiter und dann gewann er mit R6 den Mexiko Grand Prix.
Ab Zandvoort 1969 saß Jochen Rindt in Hills reparierter Chassisnummer R6, er fuhr Pole, doch im Rennen riss die Halbachse.
In Clermont Ferrand gab Rindt mit einer Magenverstimmung auf, im GP von England wurde er von der Pole startend Vierter, am Nürburgring fiel er mit Zündungsdeffekt aus, in Monza wurde er Zweiter, in Mosport Dritter und in Watkins Glen gewann Jochen mit R6 seinen ersten Grand Prix.
1970 fuhr Jochen den R6 noch ein einziges Mal, in Spa-Francorchamps. Zweiter im Training, fiel er im Rennen mit Motorschaden aus.
1971 fuhr Willson Fittipaldi das Auto im Grand Prix von Argentinien mit 29 Runden Rückstand auf Platz neun.
Bei der Rothmans Trophy in Oulton Park war das Auto am 9. April 1971 zum letzten Mal im Einsatz und kam auf Platz sechs.
Insgesamt war die Chassisnummer R6 in der 49B/C Konfiguration 24 Mal im Renneinsatz. 19 Mal bei Grand Prix. Drei wurden gewonnen.
Joe Willenpart kaufte den Wagen von dem US-Sammler Bruce McCaw, bei Hall&Hall in England wurde er komplett restauriert. [Helmut Zwickl]

Porsche 904 GTS Coupé 1963, 1966 ccm, 180 PS - Ottocar Jacobs / B. Hanzl-Seeling (A)

Obwohl er offiziell Carrera GTS genannt wurde, schlug er unter der werksinternen Bezeichnung 904 ein neues Kapitel der Porsche Sportgeschichte auf. Denn der von Ferdinand Alexander (genannt "Butzi") Porsche entworfene 904 nahm in technischer Hinsicht vieles vorweg, was erst später im Rennwagenbau üblich wurde: gemischte Stahl-/Kunststoff-Bauweise, geringes Gewicht, kleine Stirnfläche. Er war der erste Porsche mit einer Kunststoffkarosserie, und er musste, um in der GT Klasse mitfahren zu können, in 100 Exemplaren gebaut werden. Später kamen dann noch 20 Fahrzeuge hinzu, von denen 16 montiert wurden; der Rest stellte die Teile fürs Ersatzteillager.
Das zweisitzige Mittelmotor-Coupé hatte den Vierzylinder des Carrera 2, der 180 PS leistete. Seinen Rahmen bildete ein aus zwei Längsträgern bestehendes Kastenprofil, das mit Kunststoffkarosserie verklebt wurde. Da die Sitze fest mit der Karosserie verbunden waren, konnten Lenkrad und Pedale in Längsrichtung verstellt werden.
Um im Wettbewerb in der Klasse der GT-Wagen starten zu können, musste das Modell in 100 Exemplaren als Strassenversion (4-Zylinder-Motor) gebaut werden. Wie bei Porsche üblich, ging der überwiegende Teil der Porsche 904 GTS-Sportwägen in die USA (43 Stk).
Seine ersten großen Siege feierte der inzwischen als Grand-Tourisme homologierte 904 GTS bei der Targa Florio 1964 und bei den 24-Stunden von Daytona 1964.

INTERNET PIRATERIE - COPYRIGHT
Die Mausklick Generation hat sich daran gewöhnt, im Internet ein Gratisuniversum vorzufinden. Als Fotografen und Urheber unserer Fotos in Flickr sind wir digitalen Übergriffen hilflos ausgeliefert. Auferlegte Nutzungseinschränkungen und Copyrighthinweise werden, selbst nach den von uns dafür entsprechend ausgewählten Account-Einstellungen, von den Anwendern ignoriert.
Anwender von Flickr-API in Websites Dritter und Internet-Piraten sind längst nicht mehr bereit, geistiges Eigentum und das Eigentum unserer Fotos zu respektieren. Nicht Flickr ist Eigentümer der Fotos in Flickr, sondern die Fotografen als Flickr Benutzer. API-Anwender kümmern sich so gut wie gar nicht um Lizenzen. Alle Bilder erscheinen, in den uns unbekannten Websites der unzähligen API-Anwender. Aus diesem Grund habe ich mich zur Erstellung des obigen "Bildes" entschlossen.
Was ist Urheberrechtschutz in Flick überhaupt noch wert, wenn man jeden Inhalt irgendwie auch gratis mit Diebstahl erhält, wenn man nur die Moralschranken möglichst tief gelegt oder völlig abgelegt hat?
Meine Erfahrung und Antwort als Fotograf / Administrator: Nichts!
Der Piraterie und dem Diebstahl geistigen Eigentums stehen Tür und Tor offen. Die zur Entfernung/Verbergung unserer Bilder vorgesehenen Flickr-Account-Einstellungen wirken in der Praxis gar nicht.
Unsere geschützten Lichtbildwerke erscheinen entgegen dem Urheberrechtschutzgesetzt ungehindert in Websites Dritter oder werden von malenden Künstlern zuhause in der warmen Stube bequem 1:1 kopiert.

NASA released new photos and video animations depicting the agency's planned mission to find, capture, redirect, and study a near-Earth asteroid. The images depict crew operations including the Orion spacecraft's trip to and rendezvous with the relocated asteroid, as well as astronauts maneuvering through a spacewalk to collect samples from the asteroid.

NASA released new photos and video animations depicting the agency's planned mission to find, capture, redirect, and study a near-Earth asteroid. The images depict crew operations including the Orion spacecraft's trip to and rendezvous with the relocated asteroid, as well as astronauts maneuvering through a spacewalk to collect samples from the asteroid.
