Several shots taken at the Blues Point Retrieval Site show work afloat and ashore. The barge is constructing a jetty from which materials will be floated during construction.
Whilst onshore two excavators dig a shaft some 36 metres deep to meet tunnel boring machines arriving from Barangaroo and Chatswood.
I decided to gather all of my Police, Fire and Ambulance models and figures for a shoot. As I don’t have a Police or Ambulance station layout I have used Kingsway Models kit “Gainsborough Fire Station” which usually serves me as a “Tri-Service Emergency Campus”, a combination of my previous experience of Emergency Ambulances based in Fire Stations and Google search results for real life Tri Service stations. In these pictures are all of my Scottish Ambulance Service models, focusing on the Accident & Emergency service, Patient Transport Service, Education and ScotSTAR/Trauma Team. Also included are figures painted into the older style uniform of both branches - Irish Green for A&E crews, Paramedics and Ambulance Technicians and light blue for PTS crews, Ambulance Care Assistants (ACA)
Ambulance and Emergency Medical Services in Scotland are provided by the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS), a special Health Board of the greater National Health Service (NHS) Scotland. SAS provides these services throughout all of mainland Scotland and the Islands. Emergency Medical Services are provided by the Accident & Emergency branch, providing Double Crewed Ambulances typically formed of a Paramedic and Technician, but which can be formed of double Tech or Para crews. Single Paramedics in cars, motorbikes or bicycles are Paramedic Response Units, used to provide immediate pre-hospital care to patients, or treating and discharging at scene. Also part of the A&E branch is the Urgent Tier service, using crews formed of an Ambulance Technician and Care Assistant, Urgent Tier convey patients who have been urgently referred to Hospital. The patients General Practitioner can request admission within a 1-4 hour timeframe. As such Urgent Tier vehicles use their emergency warning systems less than standard A&E crews. Due to the presence of a qualified Technician however UT resources can be used as a first responder to immediately life threatening calls.
SAS also has an Emergency Medical Retrieval Service (ScotSTAR), bringing Medical and Nursing care to patients as they transfer between Hospitals. Scotland is the only part of the UK to provide fully government funded Air Ambulance services, with two fixed wing and two rotary aircraft. They are assisted by the Scottish Charity Air Ambulance who provide additional cover with two helicopters of their own.
Special Operations Response Team (SORT) provide an emergency response to complex rescue, CBRN, terrorist attacks and other such incidents.
Scheduled Care is provided by the Patient Transport Service, the non-emergency branch of SAS. Using a variety of vehicles from cars, people carriers, minibuses and minibus conversion ambulances, PTS provides transport to and from outpatient clinics, for planned admissions and discharges. Staff crewing PTS vehicles are called Ambulance Care Assistants (ACA). They are experts in moving and handling, whereas A&E crews frequently remove patients from houses using equipment such as carry chairs, ACA’s must be adept at taking their patients back up stairs as well as extrications.
As with the majority of healthcare in Scotland, ambulance and emergency medical services are free at the point of use

The excavation of the shaft at the Blues Point Retrieval Site is now complete and preparations are being made for the arrival of the tunnel boring machines. Over the next three moths TBMs Kathleen, Wendy and Mabel with complete their journeys (the former from Barangaroo, the latter from Chatswood). Each will be winched from the floor of the shaft and barged to Barangaroo. Kathleen will complete a second tunnel before the task is completed in the first few moths of 2020.
A Community and Information day was held, on site, on Saturday 28 September. Representatives from Sydney Metro, Transport for NSW, and the contractors, John Holland GPB Ghella were on hand to answer questions.
The latter are building the 15.5 km twin railway tunnels between Chatswood and Sydenham, and excavating six new metro stations.

KANAL VON KORINTH - Isthmia
Der Kanal von Korinth durchschneidet den sechs km breiten Isthmus zwischen dem griechischen Festland und der Peloponnes. Schon im Altertum wurden Schiffe über einen Schleifweg auf Rollen von Meer zu Meer gezogen und bereits 620 v.Chr. (vor mehr als 2600 Jahren!) fasste Periander, der Tyrann von Korinth, einen Plan zum Kanaldurchstich. Mit dem Bau wurde dann im Jahr 67 n. Chr. unter Kaiser Nero begonnen, musste aber wegen des Aufstandes der Gallier aufgegeben werden. Erst 1893 von griechischen und französischen Ingenieuren beendet, passierte das erste Schiff den Kanal. Diese bedeutendste künstliche Wasserstraße Europas verkürzt den Seeweg zwischen Ionischen Meer und Piräus um dreihundert Kilometer. Der Kanal ist genau 6340 m lang, an der Sohle unten 21 m breit und hat eine Wassertiefe von 8 Meter. Der Wasserspiegel liegt etwa 8o m unterhalb der Straßenbrücke. Schiffe bis zu einer Größe von 8000 BRT können passieren.
Die beste Sicht auf den Kanal in beiden Richtungen, nach Nordwesten zum dunkelblauen Golf von Korinth und nach Südosten zum lichtblauen Saronischen Golf, bietet die mittlere Straßenbrücke. Daneben führt noch eine Eisenbahnbrücke und an den beiden Kanalenden (im Südosten bei Isthmia) je eine versenkbare Brücke über diese vielbesuchte Wasserstraße. Die Kanalbrücken sind die einzigen Landübergängen auf den Peloponnes und somit entsprechend frequentiert. Bei der Zufahrt nicht irrtümlich, so wie es viele erstmalige GR-Besucher tun, der Beschilderung zur Stadt Korinth folgen, sondern bis zu den Brücken in Richtung Athen fahren.
Isthmia. Ortschaft am südöstl. Ende des Kanal von Korinth. Bietet hauptsächlich die interessante und von uns befahrene versenkbare Brücke über den Kanal. Neben spärlichen Resten des Isthmischen Heiligtums (Grundmauern eines Poseidon-Tempels, Theater) und des Isthmischen Wals, der die Perser aufhalten sollte, sind noch die Stadionreste der Isthmischen Spiele und ein kleines Museum zu erwähnen.
In Süden schließt die herrliche Küstenstraße, die dem Saronischen Golf, teils am Meer, teils in Hanghöhe dem Ostufer der Argolis entlangführt und landeinwärts nach Epidavros abbiegt.
