I decided to gather all of my Police, Fire and Ambulance models and figures for a shoot. As I don’t have a Police or Ambulance station layout I have used Kingsway Models kit “Gainsborough Fire Station” which usually serves me as a “Tri-Service Emergency Campus”, a combination of my previous experience of Emergency Ambulances based in Fire Stations and Google search results for real life Tri Service stations. In these pictures are all of my Scottish Ambulance Service models, focusing on the Accident & Emergency service, Patient Transport Service, Education and ScotSTAR/Trauma Team. Also included are figures painted into the older style uniform of both branches - Irish Green for A&E crews, Paramedics and Ambulance Technicians and light blue for PTS crews, Ambulance Care Assistants (ACA)

Ambulance and Emergency Medical Services in Scotland are provided by the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS), a special Health Board of the greater National Health Service (NHS) Scotland. SAS provides these services throughout all of mainland Scotland and the Islands. Emergency Medical Services are provided by the Accident & Emergency branch, providing Double Crewed Ambulances typically formed of a Paramedic and Technician, but which can be formed of double Tech or Para crews. Single Paramedics in cars, motorbikes or bicycles are Paramedic Response Units, used to provide immediate pre-hospital care to patients, or treating and discharging at scene. Also part of the A&E branch is the Urgent Tier service, using crews formed of an Ambulance Technician and Care Assistant, Urgent Tier convey patients who have been urgently referred to Hospital. The patients General Practitioner can request admission within a 1-4 hour timeframe. As such Urgent Tier vehicles use their emergency warning systems less than standard A&E crews. Due to the presence of a qualified Technician however UT resources can be used as a first responder to immediately life threatening calls.
SAS also has an Emergency Medical Retrieval Service (ScotSTAR), bringing Medical and Nursing care to patients as they transfer between Hospitals. Scotland is the only part of the UK to provide fully government funded Air Ambulance services, with two fixed wing and two rotary aircraft. They are assisted by the Scottish Charity Air Ambulance who provide additional cover with two helicopters of their own.
Special Operations Response Team (SORT) provide an emergency response to complex rescue, CBRN, terrorist attacks and other such incidents.
Scheduled Care is provided by the Patient Transport Service, the non-emergency branch of SAS. Using a variety of vehicles from cars, people carriers, minibuses and minibus conversion ambulances, PTS provides transport to and from outpatient clinics, for planned admissions and discharges. Staff crewing PTS vehicles are called Ambulance Care Assistants (ACA). They are experts in moving and handling, whereas A&E crews frequently remove patients from houses using equipment such as carry chairs, ACA’s must be adept at taking their patients back up stairs as well as extrications.

Sydney Metro - Blues Point Retrieval Site
Work continues apace at Blues Point - barging and construction of the temporary jetty are in progress on the harbour whilst onshore excavation continues for the shaft through which the TBM constructing tunnels under Sydney Harbour will be extracted. When the TBM arrives it will be shipped back to Barangaroo to commence a second journey, and a repeat of the extraction. Then, Blues Point will be returned to its original state.

"Space shuttle Discovery (mission 51-A, the 14th shuttle mission) following the retrieval of Westar VI, a stranded communication satellite (below). Astronaut Dale A. Gardner (left) is tethered to the side of the shuttle while Joseph P. Allen stands on the mobile foot restraint at the end of the remote manipulating arm. They are holding a "For Sale" sign, a humorous reference to the status of the recaptured satellite. The mission lasted eight days (8th-16th November 1984). A second stranded communications satellite, Palapa B-2, was also successfully retrieved, & two new satellites were deployed."

Astronaut Alan B. Shepard Jr., pilot of the Mercury-Redstone 3 (MR-3) suborbital spaceflight, is retrieved by a helicopter from the USS Lake Champlain during recovery operations in the western Atlantic Ocean. Shepard and the Mercury spacecraft designated the "Freedom 7" (floating in water below) were flown to the deck of the recovery ship within 11 minutes of splashdown. MR-3 was the first American human space mission. The spacecraft attained a maximum speed of 5,180 miles per hour, reached an altitude of 116 1/2 statute miles, and landed 302 statute miles downrange from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The suborbital mission lasted 15 minutes and 22 seconds.

This week has seen the return of the barge to the Blues point Retrieval site as the dismantling of TBM Kathleen continues. Three shots showing this operation as two tugs bring the barge into position. This is followed by a shot showing material being stowed on the vessel.

I decided to gather all of my Police, Fire and Ambulance models and figures for a shoot. As I don’t have a Police or Ambulance station layout I have used Kingsway Models kit “Gainsborough Fire Station” which usually serves me as a “Tri-Service Emergency Campus”, a combination of my previous experience of Emergency Ambulances based in Fire Stations and Google search results for real life Tri Service stations. In these pictures are all of my Scottish Ambulance Service models, focusing on the Accident & Emergency service, Patient Transport Service, Education and ScotSTAR/Trauma Team. Also included are figures painted into the older style uniform of both branches - Irish Green for A&E crews, Paramedics and Ambulance Technicians and light blue for PTS crews, Ambulance Care Assistants (ACA)
Ambulance and Emergency Medical Services in Scotland are provided by the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS), a special Health Board of the greater National Health Service (NHS) Scotland. SAS provides these services throughout all of mainland Scotland and the Islands. Emergency Medical Services are provided by the Accident & Emergency branch, providing Double Crewed Ambulances typically formed of a Paramedic and Technician, but which can be formed of double Tech or Para crews. Single Paramedics in cars, motorbikes or bicycles are Paramedic Response Units, used to provide immediate pre-hospital care to patients, or treating and discharging at scene. Also part of the A&E branch is the Urgent Tier service, using crews formed of an Ambulance Technician and Care Assistant, Urgent Tier convey patients who have been urgently referred to Hospital. The patients General Practitioner can request admission within a 1-4 hour timeframe. As such Urgent Tier vehicles use their emergency warning systems less than standard A&E crews. Due to the presence of a qualified Technician however UT resources can be used as a first responder to immediately life threatening calls.
SAS also has an Emergency Medical Retrieval Service (ScotSTAR), bringing Medical and Nursing care to patients as they transfer between Hospitals. Scotland is the only part of the UK to provide fully government funded Air Ambulance services, with two fixed wing and two rotary aircraft. They are assisted by the Scottish Charity Air Ambulance who provide additional cover with two helicopters of their own.
Special Operations Response Team (SORT) provide an emergency response to complex rescue, CBRN, terrorist attacks and other such incidents.
Scheduled Care is provided by the Patient Transport Service, the non-emergency branch of SAS. Using a variety of vehicles from cars, people carriers, minibuses and minibus conversion ambulances, PTS provides transport to and from outpatient clinics, for planned admissions and discharges. Staff crewing PTS vehicles are called Ambulance Care Assistants (ACA). They are experts in moving and handling, whereas A&E crews frequently remove patients from houses using equipment such as carry chairs, ACA’s must be adept at taking their patients back up stairs as well as extrications.
As with the majority of healthcare in Scotland, ambulance and emergency medical services are free at the point of use

3200 metres of Norwegian-made plastic pipes, each up to 480 metres long and 2.5 metres diameter - 4 of them were washed up at Winterton and Sea Palling. Initially it was reported that they 'became loose' as they were being towed from Rotterdam to Algeria.
It appears that the container ship Samskip Courier collided with the tug MTS Viscount, 30 miles north west of Dunkirk which then 'lost' the cargo it was towing ... The collision happened 19th July ... but only hit the news, 10th August when some of the pipes washed up on Norfolk beaches.
They will be towed back to the manufacturer: Pipelife Norway. Presumably, these giant pipes have been floating around the busy English Channel for weeks before being traced to the Norfolk coast.

Today I had the opportunity to be involved in watching the retrieval and banding of three baby peregrine falcons nesting atop the CTV communications tower above the TV station here in Kitchener. This was organized by the Canadian Peregrine Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources, a climbing team, CKCO-TV and Bell Media. It went off without a hitch. This is all being done in an effort to protect this species at risk. The babies were returned to their nest site after the banding. Many of us volunteers will continue to watch over them the next number of weeks especially around the time that they fledge from the nest. These birds often do not make it back to the nest after their first flight and would hopefully be rescued by the volunteers and returned to a safe area as close to the nest as possible so the chick can make their way back to the nest.
As this is somewhat of a unique occasion a couple of more shots of the Coals 60, 60095 on the Up Slow one line awaiting its as yet to be time-tabled path, out of the station and off top take the wagons back to the company who operates them. It wasn't actually too long before a timing appeared in the time-table but by this time I had left the station, my parking having expired after the last of the shots at the station, to follow next. Having run up from Toton on the 0Z60 yesterday, Colas 60095 sat in the station until early then morning when it took the cripple wagon over to Tinsley on the restricted speed move, 8Z60, returning without the wagon on the 6Z60 to arrive back at the station at 05:25. In the afternoon, a while after having left, a new move went into the time-table and this was the 14:30, 6Z61, Sheffield Midland US1 to Barrow Hill(Colas) wagon move. It ran about 30 minutes early, the Colas running round to the other end of the two wagons once more after which it set off towards Woodburn Junction, onto the Lincoln line eastwards as far as Woodhouse junction where it took the line south through Beighton Junction and so onto the 'Old Road', to Barrow Hill, arriving around 14:45...

A shot from the SCU library's Automatic Retrieval System (ARS) where many of the less used books are stored. Students can search for and request a book from any internet enabled device and within 10 min, it will be waiting for them at the library circulation desk. It's actually a bit like the system controlling the thousands of doors in Pixar's Monster's Inc. Always fun to watch =)

Ein Kollektiv von Ingieneuren und Kfz-Meistern hatte in Berlin-Johannistal Anfang der 50er-Jahre begonnen Rennfahrzeuge zu entwickeln, die erstmals 1951 in der DDR an den Start gingen.
Ende 1952 wurde die Rennkollektiv EMW nach Eisenach verlegt. Ein neuer Sechszylinder wurde 1955 zur Sensation: zwei obenliegende Nockenwellen, Doppelzündung, drei weber-Doppelvergaser, Leistung 135 bis 140 PS bei 7.200 U/min.
Edi Barth und Paul Thiel feierten im Eifelrennen am Nürburgring einen EWM-Doppelsieg.
1956 wurde EWM auf AWE (Automobil-Werk Eisenach) umbenannt. Beim ersten Start im westlichen Ausland gelang es Barth / Rosenhammer in Montlhery die Sportwagenklasse bis 2 Liter vor Porsche zu gewinnen. Im Winter 1956/57 stellte AWE die Rennen ein. Das Auto stammt aus der Sammlung von Walter Degelsegger.

Club International des Anciens Pilotes de Grand Prix F.1
1942 in Paris geboren, begann er 1965 mit einem Lotus Seven seine Rennfahrer-Karriere, die 1969 einen Riss bekam. als er mit einem Matra bei einer Testfahrt in Le Mans schwer verunglückte. Der Wagen explodierte, Henry rettete sich als lebende Fackel in den Wald, ein Zuschauer erstickte seine Flammen.
In seine 57 Formel 1 Grand Prix war der dritte Platz 1970 in Monaco auf Matra das Highlight. Er startete 33 Mal in Le Mans, viermal wurde er Gesamtsieger: 1972, 73, 74 und 85. 1987 flog er mit einer Lookheed in 88 Stunden 49 Minuten um die Welt, womit Howard Hughes Rekord von 1938 gebrochen war. Henry ist ein Racer, den man bewundern muss: mit seinem privaten Pescarolo Sport-Team duellierte er sich auch 2008 in der Le Mans-Serie mit Audi und Peugeot.
