I suppose I have to make a bit of a fuss. The light wasn't very good and the weather has been unusually warm, dry, and stable since about the end of March, making everything a bit boring. Fascadale needs a shake up to create more patterns. I need a good crashing sea, waves and high tides, and heavy rain to wash the black grit out of the surrounding mountains, and carry it down across the white seashell sand below the pebble beach. We've had none of that for ages, so I set out again wishing it was less than an hour over bumpy, twisty, single track road and tracks to get to Fascadale. But I needed an escape from washing up, changing beds and cleaning everything at the B&B, early breakfasts for guests and waiting up for arrivals late at night way past our check-in time. And the resentment I feel for those who bleat the word "Skye". WTF is it with that place? Talk about sheep. They all go there, and then moan about the roads, the queues to get in car parks and the thousands of people bespoiling and contaminating the grandeur and beauty of the landscape, how there are no toilets, no where to get a meal or accommodation because they don't book in advance, potholed roads, cancelled ferries,.......... and midges. But still they flock there and never discover amazing places, where you can be surprised and amazed that you were clever enough to find somewhere and have it to yourself.
Anyhow, my mind was somewhat purified by the time I got to Fascadale. There wasn't a soul about, and I had the sandy beach to myself, and Effie. Spotting these foxgloves I quickly knelt to steady my shot, twisting the zoom barrel of my Nikon 24-120f4 lens to frame the picture. And then I sensed something wasn't quite right. Lowering the camera I saw that the whole front half of the lens had separated from the part mounted to the camera body, and the front was now floating loose, and in imminent danger of dropping glass side first onto the granite stones. Oh shit, I've experienced this once before, about 45 years ago, when a Hoya zoom fell into a load of metal and glass pieces in my hands, and 6,000 miles, and weeks from land, I had no choice but try to reassemble it, with a sharp penknife as a screwdriver. But after alot of trial and error, test and retest I managed it. But today, stuck on the remote beach at Fascadale....what to do? Fortunately experience made the difference and after some trial and error, and occasional brute force it was back in one piece and seems to be working. This is my test shot! Behind is the skyline of the Small Isles, Rum (left), Eigg (right). Beautiful and unspoilt Ardnamurchan, any equal of Skye

Captured in the garden in front of one of my tall corrugated raised vegetable beds - in case you wondered about the striped bokeh.
My ex and I have not even broached the subject of what happens to Archie at the end of all of this. I can't even begin to think about that yet. It is really rather complicated for many reasons.
In other news I have discovered the reason for my doctor requesting so many repeat blood tests from me and perhaps part of why I am tired and breathless much of the time. I am, in her words, "really very anaemic" and with no obvious cause have been prescribed some iron tablets and retests for two months time.
Maybe I will get some energy back when they start working.
Happy Caturday to you all. I will be offering Archie some cuddles today, in the knowledge that he will completely protest them.
Take care my Flickr friends. Keep your shutters clicking.

BEIJING (AP) -- Artur Taymazov of Uzbekistan always seems to peak during Olympic years.
Taymazov repeated Thursday as the Olympic freestyle wrestling champion at 120 kilograms, denying Russia its seventh wrestling gold medal in Beijing by defeating Bakhityar Akhmedov 3-0, 1-0.
Taymazov joined Russia's Mavlet Batirov (60 kg) and Buvaysa Saytiev (74 kg) as repeat freestyle gold medalists from the Athens Games in 2004. Taymazov, 29, was a silver medalist in 2000. He also won world championships in 2003 and 2006, but always seems to be at his best in the Olympics.
"I think I cannot compare my three Olympics," he said. "Each Olympics was difficult for me. I'd like to give this medal to those who love, trust me and respect me. I'm very happy I did not disappoint them."
Taymazov bounced back from a third-place finish in the worlds last year that, by his standards, was a letdown.
"I have prepared for this moment for a long time," he said. "Nothing except a gold medal can satisfy me."
Akhmedov, although 21 with a nearly blank resume, clearly expected more than the medal he got.
"Silver is not nothing. It's a certain result, but I had come here to win gold," he said.
I've had a stressful few weeks & haven't felt like uploading many photos. Poppy has been very ill again plus our car failed it's NCT (MOT) test and 2 subsequent retests this past month. All because the mechanic didn't repair everything that was listed on the failure sheet. I couldn't believe it. Something to do with the rear axle measurements? I hate incompetence & wasting money. We drove the 70 mile round trip to the NCT centre in Enniscorthy on Saturday evening only to be handed a failure sheet for the 3rd time. A different garage has hopefully now fixed the car & it's going in to be tested again on Thursday 4th time lucky.
Thankfully Poppy seems a bit brighter today with antibiotics & painkillers but I was a bit down in the dumps so I went for a walk in the sunshine to clear my head & give myself a stern talking to. Worse things happen at sea. This unusual telegraph pole "perched" on a bank at the side of the road caught my eye HTT!

merrick's back to his goobery self ... platelets are back, but no explanation as to why they dropped so dangerously low for those couple of days. we'll retest in 10 weeks, and then again in the spring. fingers crossed it was just some weird, one-time thing.
Ricky : “Ok Mr. Elf... You tell me you're from The North Pole... I looked at a map.. That's pretty far from NY. According to Governor Cuomo, you might have to quarantine for 14 days. Did you get COVID tested before you left home, perhaps??"
Mr. Elf : “No, I did not.."
Ricky : “Ahhh. That sucks.. If you had tested negative at home, you could retest on day four of your visit here and get out of quarantine. You're going to have to do the full 14 day quarantine then."
Mr. Elf : “But I'll miss Christmas!! This is an emergency!"
Ricky : “Sorry but poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine. I'll bring over a meal form in a bit and hold it up to the glass so you don't starve to death in there.."
Mr. Elf: “..thanks.."
At approximately 9:15 a.m. EDT, Sept. 27, NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft for the Artemis I mission were secured inside the Vehicle Assembly Building at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center after a four-mile journey from Launch Pad 39B that began at 11:21 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26 ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Ian.
After the storm has passed, teams will conduct inspections to determine impacts at the center and establish a forward plan for the next launch attempt, including replacing the core stage flight termination system batteries and retesting the system to ensure it can terminate the flight if necessary for public safety in the event of an emergency during launch.

Spotted this at the end of summer, and left a note under the wiper. The owner called me just over a month later saying the car had failed an MOT and was wondering if I was still interested in it. I of course was, so arranged to collect it from SE London that weekend. The owner said it was going to be scrapped if I didn’t buy it, so he was glad the car could live on, as after owning it since 2004, was rather attached to it, but couldn’t justify the work required to pass another MOT.
After taking it for a retest at my local garage, it was obvious that the garage he went to was rather harsh on the car. It still failed on a couple of items, but nothing too serious. I got the failure work done, cleaned the bodywork up, then sold the car on a few months later, with the new owner picking it up from me last weekend. I’m glad it has a new lease of life, and will be staying local to me, so will hopefully see it driving around the area.

I've always found the GEN2 quite a stylish car, even if the interior wasn't up to much. I would love a go in one though as I'm told the Lotus tuned chassis is a good steer. 41k on the clock at last MOT in July 15; it's due a retest in a couple of weeks.
This is a re-spot of this lovely Toyota Celica. After my original photo it disappeared for many months and I wondered if it had been sold or was being recommissioned or being stored but recently it has returned out of nowhere, but now turned the other way. I can't tell if the damage is still there as I can't see the front but the left side is very green, so I am not sure where it has been for the past few months because it seems like nothing has changed! Currently on SORN and without MOT since the 8th of August 2020, and no retest has been done, also still with the same owner who it has been with since 2015. Be interesting to see what happens in the future but I am glad I got a better and updated photo!

I could feel at the time
There was no way of knowing
Fallen leaves in the night
Who can say where they're blowing
As free as the wind
And hopefully learning
Why the sea on the tide
Has no way of turning
CHORUS
More than this-there is nothing
More than this-tell me one thing
More than this-thre is nothing
It was fun for a while
There was no way of knowing
Like a dream in the night
Who can say where we're going
No care in the world
Maybe I'm learning
Why the sea on the tide
Has no way of turning
I had planned to go out and take some shots in the wood today but i wasn't in the mood, my car failed its m.o.t. and i need to get it welded and sorted before it's retest, i hate cars! That's all my money gone for that.
Anyhoo i took my bubble wand i brought ages ago to see what i could capture and this was the result. Hopefully i will cheer up after the cars done as i don't have to worry about it then.
On a plus side i managed to see Jupiter and three of its moons with my telescope last night! You could see the storms and stripes on its surface, it was amazing! Really made me sit back in awe on our place in the universe. :)

My new job has kept me fairly busy so I've had less drive during the weekends to spend hours each night building, retesting, scraping and rebuilding. Lately the motivation has been coming back.
I'm very happy with the upper leg section on this one, and the knee overall seems sturdy enough. I'm worried it has a little too much give up and down but by no means side to side. This design will hopefully allow full articulation in the knee. I'm not at all happy with the hips and I'm honestly not looking forward to the ankles either. Whelp, we'll see....

The MOT history shows lots of fails with only the failure points addressed for the retest and all the advisories left unfixed, so it looks like it's being run as cheaply as possible.

In that typically 90s fashion, Nissan like many other manufacturers of the period added a few graphics to a standard car and gave it a slightly corny model designation. This Revue car joins editions such as the Muzic, Wave and Shape.
The K11 is starting to become scarce now as their values decline to almost freebie territory, this Oates of Willington supplied car had only covered 42,000 miles at last MOT in July. The arches look a bit worse for wear however, it's been a while since I've seen any that rotten so the owner will need to get the gaffer tape out for the retest. It was an advisory last year so I'd imagine it gets picked up on again this year.

Retesting my Helios 44-2 lense with my Canon 7D. Tried this lense on the 5Dmk3, and it doesnt seem to work. Read a few articles on the net, and one page was saying that i need to shave of the mirro of the 5D or any full frame canon to use the lense......
Who wants to shave the mirror of their dslr?
Current keeper since 2006. 252k on the clock since 2011.
I nearly didn't bother with this one, shot from quite a distance on my phone but it turned out good enough. Worryingly, 1 month after this shot the MOT expired (late July 2022) and has not been submitted for a retest.
The general MOT history isn't great, and the odometer appears to have been stuck for the last 10 years. I wonder if mileage is now over 300k. I think that is some bodywork damage to the rear quarter and lacquer peel on the bootlid, but it's difficult to judge.
And it fits much better, snug but not bulging.
This new width turned out to be a good fit, the fabric was tight, but didn't squeeze the foam so much that it wanted to pop under the door as it was being opened or shut. Note: I did try another seam 1/2 inch further in still, and this was too tight -- it compressed the foam and instead of moving with the door it tried to squeeze under it.
I did the same thing with my corduroy and found that although the door had a similar sized gap, I didn't need to make the bag any narrower, the bulk of the fabric took car of the slack for me.
And that's it. Slip the foam tubes out to wash the cover. While this likely won't block all the air, it's a non-permanent way to block most of it. And that's what us renters are all about, non-permanence.
Now all I need is another cold day to see how well these might work.

November 17, We Homage the Day of Creativity.
There are several different definitions of creativity. For Ghiselin (1952), "is the process of change, development, evolution in the organization of subjective life." According Flieger (1978), "manipulate external objects or symbols to produce an unusual event for us or for us." Other definitions:
"The term creative thinking has two fundamental characteristics, namely: is autonomous and is headed for production of a new form" (Suchman, 1981)
"Creativity is the process that results in a new product, which is accepted as useful, and / or satisfactory for a significant number of people at some point in time" (Stein, 1974)
"Creativity is the emergence of something unique and original" (Anderson, 1965)
"Creativity is the process of becoming sensitive to problems, deficiencies, gaps in knowledge, disharmony, identify difficulties, find solutions, formulating hypotheses about the deficiencies; test and retest these hypotheses, and finally communicating the results" ( Torrance, 1965)
"A product or response will be judged as creative to the extent that a) are new and appropriate, useful or of value to a task and b) the task is heuristic rather algorística" (Amabile, 1983)
Everyone has different abilities in creativity. It is believed that the creative capacity of people is somehow linked to his talents.
You can classify it according to their place of origin and how it manifests. An example of classification by place of origin is as follows:
Individual creativity: how creative is expressed by an individual
Collective creativity or group or team creativity: a creative way to express an organization, team or group. Generally arises from the interaction of a group with its exterior or interactions within the group and has as main objective to optimize or create products, services and processos.Na modern organization "creative team" is the shortest and fastest way to modernization and updating of their various methods of management and production.

Well, sadly, I've noticed an uptick of stray cats at this area [ notorious for dumping cats].
This orange boy came running to me. NO homes any where nearby.....apparently he was homeless, dumped. He rode on my lap [ I didn't have a cat carrier with me] and had to cover Jasmine's crate so she wouldn't bark at him.
He's now at my vet clinic awaiting results of combo tests ......[ he was already neutered--had a tipped ear and has no micro chip]. I'm hoping my no-kill cat shelter will take him too....but that may be wishful thinking.
Update: 11/18/11
My "no kill" cat shelter will take this boy along with the kittens. They have a GREAT success rate with finding good homes for the cats at their shelter. They screen carefully and show the cats at PetsMart everyday. I'm confident he'll be adopted soon in their care.
Update 11/23/11
The no-kill cat shelter has named him "Cobbler". I'm told he's about six years old and has peridontal disease & a broken tooth-and as a result has a lot of pain. . He will go in for dental surgery on Dec.1.
Final update: 8/29/12
While living in a permanent foster home, Cobbler passed away suddenly / unexpectantly in his sleep during the night. His health issues were numerous and he was older than thought. May he RIP--he was such a sweet boy. I'm glad he spent the last ten months in a safe home, with food and away from dangers of the lake where I rescued him last November .
Here is the email I got from his caretaker[s]
Sounds to me like his heart just stopped. We knew something was wrong, but neither VCA or Riverview could find what it was. His blood work was good and urinalysis & fecal was normal. Riverview thought he could be in kidney failure but because a cat has to lose 75% of their kidney function to show on blood work, it wasn't showing up. Dr. Phelps agreed, but also thought he could be pre-hyperthyroid. We were monitoring his weight and if he lost any more of it, she wanted to retest. He was a very happy boy at Deanna's living the best of both worlds - indoors and outdoors. He is now at the Rainbow Bridge

Project 365: Day 73
A very lurid example of an early Sirion, but in base spec so the unique retro chrome design features famous on this car are missing here, except the front bumper of course. I can't imagine this is very quick being a 1 litre automatic, but what is remarkable is the low mileage; it's due a retest this week but a year ago it was showing 28,180 which is incredibly low for a then 15 year old car. I'll be interested to see what is recorded on its new MOT. Three owners.

Early 45's have more or less dropped off the radar now for me, especially these pre-51 registered models. This one is a lowly iE and still looked remarkably clean, although the long term owner (since July 2005) probably has a lot to do with that so great stuff to see.
However, I got a shock when I checked the MOT history. Being such a clean, tidy car in long term ownership generally favoured by the older generation, I expected it to have covered a tiny mileage just bumbling to and from the shops. But no, even though it's been clearly lovingly cherished, at last MOT in December (it's due a retest on the 12th, so I'd be intrigued as to what it's actually covered now!) it had 163k showing on the odometer. It seems to cover at least 15,000 miles a year even now, so it's probably nearly at the 180k mark. I'll be keeping an eye out for that 2016 test to appear.

I was trying out different old film styles on my iPhone to see which one came the closest to the real painting colors. Kodachrome was best. I don't know why it is called "Lotogram" in the info. section. Funny, I can even retest the image with my phone to double check that it is Kodachrome by pointing my iPhone at the computer screen and going through the different films in the app.
I am fascinated with trying to reproduce the colors of a painting in a photo. The colors of postcards are not accurate.
The app is Reflex. The frame is an old Minolta 7000 frame, but that doesn't show up with the new layout of Flickr. You can see it in "all sizes". I love all the frames...

*Inception of eyes, ears and nose
*Evolution of digestive system
*Backbone appears
*Budding arms; elbows and toes
*Formation of face and features
DIAGNOSTIC TESTING
hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin)
For early pregnancy detection (50 mIU/ml or 6 days prior to missed menses) and quantitative procedures for the determination of ectopic pregnancies or the onset of spontaneous abortions.
Toxoplasmosis
Test for lgG antibodies: positive result indicates immunity. If negative: retest for IgM antibodies to determine possible acute infection. Suspected infection should be retested in the sixth and ninth months.
Rubella
Test for IgG antibodies: positive result indicates immunity. Negative result: test for IgM antibodies if infection is suspected or mother is exposed to rubella during pregnancy. After delivery mother should be vaccinated.
Chlamydia
Positive result can be followed up with treatment of erythrocin. Negative result: no treatment necessary but re-evaluate prior to delivery (or if infection is suspected during pregnancy).
Cytomegalovirus
Seropositivity indicates maternal immunity which may exert a beneficial effect by reducing the virulence of infection in the fetus and developing infant. Negative results should be tested for specific IgM antibodies during the first trimester if infection is suspected.
HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus)
Positive test result indicates the mother and the infant are possibly infected. Repeat testing should be done and repeatably reactive specimens confirmed by Western Blot. Counselling of mother and sexual partner is indicated; and diagnostic testing of sexual partner is recommended. Negative result requires no additional testing unless clinically indicated or patient is a member of a high risk group.
Tests for Herpes and Syphilis may also be completed at this time.
12 Weeks
*Fetus almost 3 inches in length
*1/2 to 1 ounce in weight
*Hands, fingers and nails now distinct
*Evidence of baby teeth outgrowth
*Most bones have commenced development
*Kidneys begin to secrete urine
*External sex organs become more definite
Cytomegalovirus
Cytomegalovirus IgM antibody test if recent infection is suspected.
20 Weeks
*Fetus almost 10 inches in length
*8 to 12 ounces in weight
*External sex organs now fully
defined
*Well formed eyes, ears and mouth Bronchial tube branching becomes evident
*Heart sounds perceptible with stethoscope
*"Cheesy" protective covering on skin
*Hair on head, "down" on body
*Mother may feel baby's movement (quickening)
16-18 Weeks
AFP (Alpha-fetoprotein)
For maximum detection of fetuses with neural tube defects, maternal serum AFP test should be performed between 16-18 weeks of gestation. An elevation should be followed with an ultrasound examination to verify gestational age and to check for multiple fetuses. Unexplained elevations should be followed up with amniocentesis.
26 Weeks
*Fetus almost 14 inches in length
*1 1⁄2 pounds in weight
*Skin appears red and wrinkled
*"Cheesy" film covering still on skin
*Eyelashes well defined
*Eyebrows well defined
*Nostrils now open
Toxoplasmosis
Toxoplasmosis seronegative mothers with clinical symptoms should be retested for IgM antibodies.
32 Weeks
*Fetus almost 16 inches long
*4 pounds in weight
*Internal organs more completely developed
*Body filling out
* Eyelids now open
*Bones fully evolved but still soft and flexible
38 Weeks
*Fetus about 19 inches long
*6 pounds in weight
*Hair on head now thicker and longer
*"Down" on body disappearing
*Fingernails reach fingertips
*Skin loses wrinkled appearance;
now smooth
*Slate-colored eyes usually change color after birth
Hepatitis
Positive test for Hepatitis B antigen indicates acute infection. Mother should be diagnostically monitored for seroconversion. Infant should be treated with Hepatitis B Immune Globulin and the Hepatitis vaccine as well as diagnostic testing for indication of seroconversion. Negative result indicates no acute infection.
Toxoplasmosis
Toxoplasmosis IgM retest if infection is suspected.
HIV
HIV retest if clinically indicated.
Chlamydia
Examine for possible Chlamydial infection.
Seen yesterday after being entered for its first computerised MOT and... failing. Not too badly though, so I expect it'll be in for a retest soon.
Must have been off the road for a while as Cartell doesn't recognise the reg!
A clean and tidy example showing 159k on the clock as of last August; it's due a retest next week. Looking at the MOT history, it's probably showing around the 167k mark.
Cat 70 - I don't know his new name yet - is doing OK. He is settling in at his new location very nicely. He spent the afternoon at the vet clinic. The people who originally rescued him didn't want to spend a lot of money on him so he hadn't been tested/treated quite as well as the vet (or I) would have liked. I gave the vet permission to do whatever she felt would be prudent and necessary to assess his condition and to treat him.
His overall condition is good, especially compared to when he first came in last week, but he definitely has liver damage. The vet believes the damage will clear up, as long as he keeps eating and drinking. If we like we can retest him in about a month to make sure he is recovering properly.
I was dealing with a new vet at our clinic, who I never worked with before (there are usually 3 or 4 on staff) and she was wonderful. I think she was happy to see this cat get the care he needs, because she thanked me a couple of times for doing this. To me, it only makes sense that if you're going to rescue a cat, you give it the care it needs. I don't blame the people who rescued him, though. I'm just glad I can help.
