These moments of respite are so important to our ability to keep going. So many people run into burnout because they fail to realize this important necessity. This should not be as unfamiliar of a concept as it is, but here in the west we are so work driven, task oriented, and we are lured in by the opportunity to make another dollar and advance our social status. It may seem like wasted time to rest when we could instead be working, earning more money, going on more adventures, hanging out with more friends, and so the list could go on forever. Yet there is a reason that God ordained for there to be a day of rest once every week. He did not create us to just do work all of our lives, although work is certainly a part of what He created us to do. Moreover He created us to know Him, to spend time with Him, and to rightfully enjoy the many blessings that He has given us. My challenge to you is that if you recognize that you are not taking time to rest, do so. Do not fill this time with a whole laundry list of things to do, but rather sit and be with the Father and see what He teaches you and watch as He will refresh your soul in this time!

Common Hoverfly (Melangyna viridiceps)

Seen on our dormant Nectarine tree today.

Over the last couple of days we've had a major hatching of dragonflies and they've filled the skies with their darting flight.

They are also landing and resting on our garden plants. This is a juvenile Common Green Darner and it modeled nicely for me :)

This is a very rare period of time, Bodhi just rest and stop running around the house like a mad man doesn't happen very often. I had to take the opportunity and get a quick shot it.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!!

No, it's not a turkey. I haven't seen any wild turkeys lately so this resting duck will have to do :)

There is much to be thankful for, no matter what our circumstances are. An attitude of gratitude is always in season.

Here's hoping your day will be filled with family, friends, and community! God bless.

Black-tailed Deer (Odocoileus hemionus columbianus)

"The black-tailed deer is one of nine subspecies of the mule deer. It was first recorded by the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804-06.

Black-tailed deer live in the temperate coniferous forests along the Pacific coast. These forests are characterized by cool temperatures and lots of rain, but an overall mild climate. Black-tailed deer do not therefore migrate in response to seasonal changes, unlike some of the other mule deer subspecies. Instead, black-tailed deer often spend their entire life in the same general area.

Black-tailed deer can be distinguished from mule deer by their larger tail, the back of which is completely covered with black or dark brown hairs. Mule deer have smaller tails in which only the tip is covered with black hairs. Black-tailed deer are generally smaller than mule deer."

This guy took a brief rest during the rut. When the rut is once in full action there’s no more time to rest…southern Denmark

Taken fifteen years ago, this is one of my first ever shots of a bull moose. Found him near Grand Lake, Colorado.

The last of my oldies series. I'm heading back to that area tomorrow hoping to find some of his descendants, so this is my last post for a couple of weeks.

I blasted my arms a bit today but here's my slipped down singlet and a nice pose for all the pit hair lovers out there

This big fallen tree is a great rest spot for Charlie when we go walking.

This year I really taught the Human it is ok to take a break and she deserves to rest. Here, we did so on the living room floor. You can almost always take a break anywhere!

This 6 footer was resting on a fallen tree just above a swampy area. Maybe catching what light breeze there was or.....waiting on his next meal. Taken at Occoquan refuge, Virginia

Same squirrel, same pose, same tree shot through two different windows of the house.

This dragonfly (a common darter?) was busy enjoying a bounty of insects that had come to feed on our local heather. The hunting was good and I was lucky to catch it resting for a short while.

Laura Ellen Bacon's Course

Course is deeply curvaceous work that descends into the River Cray, a chalk stream*, at Hall Place. Being peaceful yet uncanny, having a quiet, seeping stillness but also a momentum that seems to be guiding its weight towards the clear depths below.
