PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. - The 641st Regional Support Group, an Army Reserve logistics and transportation brigade based in St. Petersburg, Fla., conducted a Best Warrior Competition and Officer Challenge Jan. 24 at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla.
Both competitions took place during the final full day of Operation Responsive Sentinel, a sustainment training and disaster relief field exercise comprising approximately 20 units and 900 Soldiers. Resolve Sentinel's operational and tactical missions at Port Canaveral, Patrick AFB and the Air Force's Malabar Transmitter Annex offered numerous opportunities for the troops to apply their military and civilian skills to plan, organize and execute objectives on land and sea.
The Best Warrior Competition featured six enlisted Soldiers representing several companies and battalions attached to the 641st RSG. The half-dozen men and women faced off in a various warrior-oriented tasks ranging from a written exam and sergeants major interview board to a ruck march and a rifle and pistol qualification round.
The top two competitors will represent the 641st RSG in the 143d Sustainment Command
(Expeditionary)'s Best Warrior Competition planned for March 9-13 at Camp Blanding, Fla.
While specialists and sergeants shot, sang, ran and marched their way to the finish line, scores of junior officers formed at Patrick AFB's Education and Training Center to test their strength, dexterity, memory and morale in the 641st RSG's officer challenge. Teams of five officers competed at six unique
stations spread along a six-mile route. The challenge began with map reading and rank recognition events, continued with casualty evacuation scenario and a ethical dilemma, and concluded with a physical challenge and rifle marksmanship.

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin presented police officers Geno Guerrieri and David Forsyth with the "Lifesavers Award," a prestigious crystal award from the American Heart Association on Wednesday, March 2, 2016.
In the early afternoon on September 29, 2015 a 9-1-1 call was placed from a chiropractor’s office in White Hall, West Virginia. The medical receptionist, a 49 year old woman suddenly collapsed at her desk. She was non-responsive, not breathing, and lifeless. Emergency medical crews were dispatched from our agency, however our nearest ambulance was over 10 minutes away. There were two on-duty police officers, Geno Guerrieri and David Forsyth happened to be in the area and overheard the medical call dispatched. Without hesitation, both officers quickly headed to the office and arrived at the patient within 2 minutes of the call for help. These officers began the lifesaving procedure of CPR without hesitation.
Our ambulance arrived on scene 10 minutes later and began assisting with CPR. While in route to the hospital, the woman regained a heartbeat. By the time the crew was arriving at the hospital, she had already begun breathing. The emergency department physicians and cardiologist continued to stabilize while the catherization teams at WVU Hospitals were alerted and preparing for emergency surgery.
The patient was pulseless and not breathing for over 25 minutes. The chance of survival with that timeframe is less than 1%. However, because of the effectiveness of CPR, the patient’s brain continued to receive oxygenated blood throughout the heart attack. The patient was discharged from WVU Hospitals two weeks later with no deficits! A woman who was clinically dead for nearly half an hour is alive and living a normal life because of the actions of these two police officers.
Responding to a medical call, performing CPR, and assisting the EMS crews certainly isn’t in the job description of a police officer. In this case, Officers Guerrieri and Forsyth could have continued on their way. They didn’t need to assist EMS. They didn’t know the ambulance was over 10 minutes away. At a time when law enforcement is facing scrutiny across the nation, it’s refreshing to see our officers in West Virginia saving lives.

Several operators are currently experimenting with demand responsive services which sit somewhere between 'normal' scheduled bus routes and taxis. The Oxford Bus Company launched Pick Me Up in 2018 originally using 6 all Mercedes-Benz Sprinters although 10 are currently in use offering demand responsive journey's via an App across Eastern Oxford.
RF68FLX (978) is one of two EVM Cityline converted Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 516CDI's bought in late 2018 to cope with increased demand and is seen here passing down a busy St Aldate's in Oxford city centre. However, whether such services remain a viable long term proposition remains to be seen.
