PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. - The 641st Regional Support Group, an Army Reserve logistics and transportation brigade based in St. Petersburg, Fla., conducted a Best Warrior Competition and Officer Challenge Jan. 24 at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla.
Both competitions took place during the final full day of Operation Responsive Sentinel, a sustainment training and disaster relief field exercise comprising approximately 20 units and 900 Soldiers. Resolve Sentinel's operational and tactical missions at Port Canaveral, Patrick AFB and the Air Force's Malabar Transmitter Annex offered numerous opportunities for the troops to apply their military and civilian skills to plan, organize and execute objectives on land and sea.
The Best Warrior Competition featured six enlisted Soldiers representing several companies and battalions attached to the 641st RSG. The half-dozen men and women faced off in a various warrior-oriented tasks ranging from a written exam and sergeants major interview board to a ruck march and a rifle and pistol qualification round.
The top two competitors will represent the 641st RSG in the 143d Sustainment Command
(Expeditionary)'s Best Warrior Competition planned for March 9-13 at Camp Blanding, Fla.
While specialists and sergeants shot, sang, ran and marched their way to the finish line, scores of junior officers formed at Patrick AFB's Education and Training Center to test their strength, dexterity, memory and morale in the 641st RSG's officer challenge. Teams of five officers competed at six unique
stations spread along a six-mile route. The challenge began with map reading and rank recognition events, continued with casualty evacuation scenario and a ethical dilemma, and concluded with a physical challenge and rifle marksmanship.

This year the discussion panel and awards ceremony was complemented by a signing ceremony for the EBRD’s Women in Business programme in the Eastern Partnership countries. Local financial institutions signed letters expressing their interest in participating in the programme, which combines finance and advice for women-led small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Worked up a quick experiment with a fluid grid on my localhost. As expected, all the art directed pages are broken. Not sure if I'll change anything, go fluid or just use media queries to serve a few layouts based on viewport/window size... lots to think about.
I'm still forming my opinion in regards to what I believe best practices are, but cheers to everyone experimenting with this stuff!
Also, I sure wish flickr did a better job of handling the PNG transparencies in my screenshots. Blerg!

From a very young age, fashion designer Salwa Owens had a creative and entrepreneur spirit that was evident to anyone who met her. At 5 years old she was hand sewing one of a kind Barbie clothes. At 7 years old she was making fabric puppets to sell during recess to her fellow elementary school students. By her young adult years, she was giving fashion makeovers to friends upon request. It was very fitting that launching her own fashion business was in her destiny. A firm believer that fashion is a business, Salwa decided to start with a proper foundation and earn a Bachelors in Business Administration at The University of Georgia with a minor in French. She landed what she thought was her dream job, utilizing not only her business degree but also her knowledge of 3 languages, working for a large international finance corporation. Salwa decided to put Fashion School on hold to jump on this great opportunity. After almost a year of working in international finance, Salwa realized no job would ever be good enough to keep her from pursuing her dream of being a fashion designer. She decided to leave the corporate world, and became a student again, enrolling at The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising to study fashion design. She jumped right into the fashion scene in Southern California, interning in companies such as Billabong and assisting in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in L.A. Upon graduating from FIDM, Salwa decided to take her fashion and business experience, and apply it to starting her own business. Her first launch was through an Etsy shop, which she quickly outgrew and went on to launch her new e-commerce site, SNOcouture.com, & now her new label www.salwaowens.com. Her up and coming fashion label is one to keep an eye on, as her dreams of having a large fashion empire one day are clearly on path. We are thrilled to have her on the runway of FWSD14.
