Richard Walker, a former US Marine and Selma resident, was shopping at a local business when the storm hit. He stopped to perform two separate rescues of women he watched become trapped in mangled cars as sections of a large metal roof fell and crushed the automobiles, which prevented their escape. He relied on his training to provide first aid and comfort them until help arrived, using the shirt he was wearing as bandages and to support the woman's head. His wife and daughter were at home when the tornado struck. "I'm thankful for the Red Cross helping folks out here. I've never seen anything like this. It's so hard."
