John W. Curry, first known African American postal worker hired in Washington, D.C., is shown circa 1870.
It is believed he may have been the first black letter carrier in the United States.
Official records suggest he was first appointed in 1868 as a clerk, and then worked as a letter carrier from 1870 until his death in 1899.
He was probably a charter member of letter carriers Branch 142, founded in 1895 prior to that organization barring African Americans from membership.
His death in 1899 was noted in the letter carriers magazine, The Postal Record. The Washington Bee praised him as doing much "to open the way for admission of other colored carriers.”
A long fight ensued after Curry’s death to re-integrate postal unions with the segregated Washington, D.C. locals often at the center of the battle.
The issue was not ultimately resolved until the National Association of Letter Carriers conventions in the 1960s and the merger of different unions into the American Postal Workers Union (APWU) in 1971.

So I have recently resolved not to worry to much about flickr. I mean of course I will still get on everyday, I don't think I could not. However, I always stress about not having something to upload for the day. Which means in my opinion my quality of photos has gone down. I used to just grab my camera when I saw something interesting, now I grab my camera and work really hard to make something interesting. I am trying to squeeze creativity out, and it starting to suck. So from here on out I might not post everyday, it just depends on what happened that day. I am just telling you guys so you know. Here's to stress free, fun flickr!
This photo makes me think of Sunday mornings. This is my favorite type of herbal tea. :D

02/52 ~Ellenburg Photography-Project 52 ~ "Resolve"
Resolve!!! Definitions......to deal with successfully : clear up; to find an answer to; to make clear or understandable; to reach a firm decision about; to declare or decide by a formal resolution and vote; to make (as voice parts) progress from dissonance to consonance; etc, etc.
So many definitions and so many possiblities. I resolve to RESOLVE the issue of what I will "resolve" to accomplish this year (what? LOL), in my photography and in my non-photography world. The first of the year always brings in such new promises and so many possiblities and how many of us really accomplish those things resolved? I resolve every January 1 to lose 20 pounds........well lets just say this year it's on the list yet again! :) :) :) Or I could just "resolve" to stay pleasantly plump!!! LOL
I want to take more photos like this during 2013; landscape, mystical, mysterious, etc. I have to admit that this was taken with my Iphone because I have been giving my Big Camera (my baby) a well deserved break. And quite honestly, the Iphone(5) is equipped with a pretty darn good camera. While I ALWAYS regret not having my big camera at photo op times like this, I am glad that I can always whip out the phone and snap away.
Here is wishing everyone a Magnificent weekend!!!!

Know what you want to do, hold the thought firmly, and do every day what should be done, and every sunset will see you that much nearer the goal.~Elbert Hubbard
In a long-ranging interview, Chic told me:
We can and should present the peacebuilding story to the new administration and to the media pundits who ask high profile questions of the president and write and speak about the issues.
The issues are too important, and the opportunity is too clear and present for us to be silent. The world faces unprecedented risks, but there is also a unique opportunity to build peace. The risks are accentuated by the proliferation of weapons capable of inflicting massive damage and the growing pressure on diverse societies to compete for diminishing resources.
On the other hand, the tools and skills
for violence prevention and conflict resolution have been developed as never before. If leaders in the United States and the rest of the world are willing to embrace and apply peacebuilding concepts and principles, the risks can be reduced, and conflicts can be resolved.
This is the time to speak.
