We celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied and multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

Like my toys, my books are also scattered all over my room. These are the lucky books that got shelf-space; the newer purchases are on stools or on the floor. (Storage problems!)
I took this photograph at special request of my son. I am happy that he is developing an eye for beautiful subjects. Maybe I really ought to buy him his own camera now :)
I've had the honor to shoot for my best friend's new clothing line -Akufuncture- this weekend. I wasn't the real photographer there but it sure was a lot of fun to play around with the models. Akufuncture is a new brand that was created to display a style that would spark a desire to know more about the (Chinese) culture that their products display. Congrats to my brother Sam for making it happen.

Last Friday, the crew's help was requested for a natural resources management project. This picture shows Shannon, Chance, and Jesse in waders ready to start sampling creek water for macroinvertebrates which will tell the NPS biologist about the quality of the water.
*Our project involves renovating camp sites at Oakridge Campground. We are removing old non-ADA grills and picnic tables and putting in new grills and newly built picnic tables so that the camp sites are more accessible to people with disabilities.*

Taken handheld in very low light. I went all-out and used f/1.4 here (I usually avoid f/1.4 with this lens)... All things considered, I'm amazed at how well I did with the manual focus.
(EXIF always reads f/1.8 regardless of actual setting with this lens adapter.)
