We celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied and multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

Grasslands in various states of health and recovery [request details] around the Janos, Mexico area. From a May/June 2007 visit to document Rare Conservation's Pride program with Albino Perra Herrera in the Great American Grassland high desert around Janos, Mexico in the northern region of the state of Chihuahua. This effort focuses on education and training around the sustainable use of the grassland prairies. Issues include poorly managed grazing, excessive and sometimes illegal water use, and other extractive and heavily impacting agricultural practices. At stake is the largest remaining intact grassland praires in North America and a critical ecosystem for hundreds of migrating bird species, and a large number of reptile and mammal species including the black footed ferret, North America's most endangered mammal species. Tyler requested chicken strips and garlic mashed potatoes!! Add corn on the cob and you've got a very filling meal!

I added an applique to the front with a quote from Jane Austen, about the joys of reading.. forgot to get a pic.

The boy in the blue blanket asked me to take his photo. He was among the students at the Menagesha Monastery, but I had left him out of previous photos. So he called me over and made his request. Over and over again, I found people to be similarly confident and interested in what I was doing without feeling threatened at all.

I've had a very special Christmas assignment last Holiday Season. A young couple wanted me to take a few shots of them and their young baby. They craved for something Christmas-themed, so the young girl was dressed up in red, Santa apparel :)
