Jaarlijks overlijden er wereldwijd 800.000 kinderen aan de gevolgen van diarree en om dat aantal terug te dringen, zetten 3FM en het Rode Kruis zich van 18 t/m 24 december vanuit Leeuwarden in om zoveel mogelijk geld in te zamelen voor deze stille ramp. The Looe branch follows the course of the East Looe River from Coombe Junction, which for most part is heavily wooded through to Sandplace where it emerges from the valley into the beginning of the river's floodplain. Sandplace station has been tastefully upgraded by the provision of a Great Western style shelter with a pitched roof and painted in appropriate chocolate and cream colours. It is the last station on the line before Looe, is unstaffed and a request stop only. Just under 1500 passengers used the station in 2012/13, which reflects the upward trend of patronage for the line as a whole over recent years. First Great Western Class 153 No. 153372 approaches the road bridge at the north end of the station on 7th September with 2B27 1400 Liskeard - Looe. Wyoming National Guard soldiers responded to a Feb. 11 request from the governor and Wyoming Homeland Security to mitigate ice-jam induced flooding in Worland and surrounding areas. By Saturday morning, upwards of 50 Guardsmen were working to reinforce berms along the Big Horn River between two overpasses and critical infrastructure near downtown with sandbag-fortified concrete barriers. By Sunday afternoon, with the addition of another 20-man rapid action team (RAT), and as hundreds of community members helped fill sandbags, Guard crews were moving four truckloads of about 200 sandbags an hour out to the berms. Monday, it was determined to dispatch another 20 person RAT team to Worland to help in further operations with sandbags and berms. By 16 Feb., RATs had finished operations in Worland, and Manderson and moved up to Greybull, which is currently under a flood warning. FROM SIGN AT PALACE ENTRANCE: Changdeokgun Palace was constructed in 1405, the fifth year of King Taejong (r.1400-1418), the third Joseon Gyeongbokgung Palace was to the west and Changdeokgung Palace to the east. All of the palace buildingS were destroyed by fire during the Japanese invasion of 1592. Changdeokgung was restored in 1610 and served as the main palace for 270 year until Gyeongbokgung was finally reconstructed in 1868 during the reign of King Gojong. Since the palace was to the east of Gyeongbokgung, where major buildings are arranged in accordance with the main axis of the meridian, Changdeokgung is laid out in harmony with the areas topography; the palace architecture has a dissymmetric beauty that is unique to Korea. The layout of Changdeokgung is welcoming and offered the royal residents much convenience. It influenced the layout of other major palaces. The buildings of Changdeokgung Palace including Daejojeon, the queens residence, were destroyed in 1917 by fire. To replace them, buildings at Gyeongbokgung Palace were dismantled and moved here. In the process, many structures were modified or damaged. Full restoration work began in 1991 and is still under way. Despite all of the damage done to the palace in the years past, Changdeokgung is relatively well preserved and is representative of Korean palace architecture. The garden of Changdeokgung is one of the most enchanting spaces in Korea. The Changdeokgung Palace complex was inscribed on the USESCO World Cultural Heritage List in 1997 for its outstanding architecture and a design that is in harmony with the landscape.

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

The criminal attack being planned against Syria is based on lies. They are not hard to expose.
The Syrian government was given a formal request on Saturday, Aug. 24 to grant access to a United Nations team of inspectors to the town in the outskirts of Damascus to determine if chemical weapons had been used. The Syrian government granted permission the very next day, Sunday, Aug. 25.
Obama administration officials then immediately declared that the inspections no longer mattered because the Syrian government had delayed UN weapons inspectors’ access to the site. In fact, top U.S. officials called UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon on Aug. 25 (when Syria agreed that the inspectors could visit) demanding that he cancel the UN weapons inspections because they “were pointless.” (Wall Street Journal, Aug. 26)
The claim against Syria is ludicrous. The Syrian government would not have an interest in using chemical weapons knowing that it would be the trigger for NATO military intervention. The government was winning the war. The foreign-backed armed rebel groups could only win the war if the U.S. and/or NATO intervened directly.
Every imperialist attack and every imperialist-inspired regime change strategy requires a pretext and a public rationale. There needs to be a noble cause to justify the aggression. Since it is the 21st century rather than the 19th century, the politicians of western capitalism have to conceal and mask their predatory aims as they routinely bomb and kill people in the Middle East, Asia and Africa who resist allowing their lands and resources to fall under the domination of western corporations, banks and business interests.
“Public opinion” required a humanitarian motive for the bombing of Afghanistan in 2001, Iraq in 2003, Libya in 2011 and Syria in 2013.
The greatest purveyors of violence in the world present themselves as the greatest purveyors of humanitarian interests in the world.
Syria is not threatening the United States nor is anyone in the Obama administration suggesting such a threat exists. Thus, the planned military strikes against Syria are a violation of the UN Charter and international law.

Date: May 30, 1986
Description: A letter to David Christy, Director of the San Mateo County Parks and Recreation, requests that Dwight Taylor be permitted to continue his gentle livelihood on San Bruno Mountain.
Notes: David Schooley describes the location of Dwight's hermit hut at a place above the "Three Ravines." This refers to upper Buckeye Canyon, above the meeting place of the streams that drain the three ravines towards the top of the canyon. This hut is pictured in the black and white photos taken by David Schooley, featured in this collection.
This letter and others were successful in keeping him on the mountain, at least until 1990, when he was removed.
