"By Request" painted on a P-51C Mustang. It is said that some returning bombers, in need of an escort, would request that the Tuskegee Airmen be sent on the mission. And, for good reason. It is said that the Tuskegee Airmen of the 99th Fighter Squadron and later the 332nd Fighter Group, did not lose a single bomber to enemy fire in more than 200 combat missions. The coverage provided by the "Red Tail" fighters often discouraged enemy fighter pilots from attacking bombers escorted by the 332nd.

Requested in 1805 by Napoleon I for what was formerly the King’s Chamber, the Throne Room in the Château de Fontainebleau is the only such suite in France still in its original state. Together with his crown, his two ensigns and his daïs, the throne was installed in the alcove in which the king’s bed formerly stood. Originally made for the Château de Saint Cloud in 1804 by Jacob-Desmalter, based on designs by the architects Percier and Fontaine, it was installed at Fontainebleau in 1808. Napoleon added the standards with his initial and the Imperial eagle. The decoration around the throne was originally designed in 1804 by Jacob-Desmalter for the Palace of Saint-Cloud, and the throne itself came from the Tuileries Palace.
The chimney was originally decorated with a portrait of Louis XIII painted by Philippe de Champaigne, which was burned in 1793 during the French Revolution. Napoleon replaced it with a portrait of himself, by Robert Lefèvre. In 1834, King Louis-Philippe took down Napoleon's picture and replaced with another of Louis XIII, from a painter of the school of Champaigne

William Tudor Thorp born 1841 at Alnwick, Northumberland was the son of Thomas Thorp and Elizabeth Jane Tudor.
He married Emily Sarah West in 1863 by whom he had children. She died 24th October 1871. He then married Maria Louisa Jones on 16th June 1875 at Christ Church, Lancaster Gate, London by whom he had more children. He died 11th November 1919 at Charlton Hall, Chathill, Alnwick, Northumberland.
His children by his first wife were:
Elisabeth Emily Thorp, born 1864, she married William Edward Long in 1890, Thomas Alder Thorp, born 1866, Richard Fenwick Thorp born 1869.
Children by his second wife were:
William Tudor Sayce Thorp born 1876, Robert Oakley Vavasour Thorp born 1877, Collingwood Forster Thorp, born 1879, Beatrice Jane Fenwick Thorp, born 1881, Harold Pragett Thorp born 1882, Reginald Pearce Thorp, born 1884.
Other documents show that there was some disagreement among his children about the division of his Silver between them.

Zij zijn de stille slachtoffers van de oorlog. NPO 3FM geeft ze met Serious Request een stem. Paul Rabbering reisde naar Syrië, een land waar de oorlog een enorme impact heeft op het dagelijks leven.

a tip for making them yourself... you can bake and freeze them ahead of time and then ice them the day of the event. makes it a lot easier than trying to do it all in a day. on icing: get one of those squirty things and swirl the icing on top--much faster and easier than spreading. and make sure you don't use an icing recipe that will melt if weather will be warm/hot.

The quotation was requested by a colleague who is always kind. I still remember when he agreed to switch classrooms so that I could use his interactive smart board - he thought it was just for a period, I "needed" the room for the rest of the year. He was nice enough to make the change permanent even though it meant was more than a little inconvenience for him. I'll always remember that not so small kindness.
Serious Request/Glazen Huis is a charity event. Three DJs of the 3FM radio channel are locked in a glass house for a week without food. They take to the air in shifts, trying to collect money for charity. The Glass House is in Leiden this year. More info: seriousrequest.3fm.nl/
