Trying to replicate the pure 'authentic' portrait style made famous by photographer Martin Schoeller. He shot Obama, Trump, Clooney, Clint Eastwood, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Jack Nicholson, etc, etc, etc. I used the very same lens he uses which is a Mamiya Sekor Macro Z 140mm f/4.5 Lens adapted to my Canon 5D Mark III. Mr. Schoeller shoots on medium format film with a Mamiya RZ67 and two Kino Flo 4Bank Select 4' fluorescent fixtures which cost $1,105.88 each. I grabbed two Lithonia Lighting
4-Light Grey Fluorescent Heavy-Duty Shop Lights for 50 bucks each to do a 'digital' version of his style. I am pretty happy with the results.

A quiet oak savanna in southwest Oregon has a World War II story to tell.
It was the summer of 1942 when thousands of young American troops started arriving in Oregon to prepare for battle.
Only months prior, immediately after the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor and America’s entry into WWII, the U.S. Army broke ground on Camp White, a massively ambitious training ground for troops north of Medford.
The national war effort was ramping up, and from the rationing at home to the drill sergeants yelling at new draftees, the task at hand was unified: Get America prepared for war as fast as possible.
At Camp White, in the heart of the Rogue River Valley, it got loud very quick.
Construction crews worked 24 hours a day until the base, consisting of 1,300 structures, was complete. Barracks, mess halls, a railroad, full electrical grid and sewer system were all built in six months.
And then the troops arrived.
The newly reinstated 91st Division went on 91-mile-long hikes.
They fired bazookas, mortars and tanks.
And they attacked concrete pillboxes built to replicate Nazi bunkers.
Despite creating what was then Oregon’s second most populous city at 40,000 people, there are now only a few lasting structures proving Camp White ever existed. Sadly, there are even fewer first-hand memories.
The pillboxes are still standing, though. They simultaneously represent a mostly forgotten military legacy and since 2013, an opportunity for historic preservation.
After decades of private cattle farming, Camp White’s pillboxes now rest on public land.

FAO project GCP/MON/002/NET - Capacity Building and Institutional Development for Participatory Natural Resources Management and Conservation in Forest Areas of Mongolia. The project responds to a direct request from the Ministry of Nature and Environment of Mongolia to support the Government’s effort to involve the local population in the sustainable manegment of Mongolian forest:
To stop and reverse the ongoing degradation of the forests of Mongolia and to contribute to poverty alleviation through the development of a model of local level forest ecosystem management at soum level that can be replicated to other sites in the forested aimags of Mongolia. To that effect the Project will deal with institutional, social, economic, financial, scientific and technical aspects of this compound problem;
The focus of the Project will be both at the local and national levels. The local level is fundamental for the development of participatory forestry and the national level is fundamental for the improvement of the institutional framework and creating an enabling context for participatory forestry in the country. The project will build upon the experiences of FAO and other partners in Mongolia.

My Makerbot Replicator 2X has arrived! I won this baby in the Makerbot Thingiverse Customizer Challenge (: www.makerbot.com/blog/2013/03/10/makerbot-customizer-chal... :) and it arrived in less than 2 weeks.
Sadly it got damaged a little during shipping. From the cardboard box it's obvious that the fedex guys must have handled it quite rough :( but thanks to the excellent and super fast Makerbot support I got it repaired in a few hours :)
I immediately tested the two material print by printing the makerbot coin that is on the SD card that comes with the printer. This worked out of the box :)
Because I really like PLA much better than ABS I then decided to switch to PLA. The switch somehow clogged the right nozzle but this was not really a problem since it's super simple to get to the hot end to clean it :) On the other printers I've used so far a clogged nozzle usually means you spend a few hours taking the extruder apart so it was a very positive surprise that it only took me 15 minutes to clean the nozzle this time :)

After taking this picture I printed the replacement parts that I need for my old 3D printer which broke a few days after I had won the Replicator 2X...I guess it was jealous ;)
To summarize the day: I'm really impressed by this machine so far and I have to print more two color designs ;) Stay tuned for a two colored music box...
This is a robot mode only replica of Starscream's look in ROTF and DOTM.
I tried to replicate every single detail from the CGI model, which differs greatly from the actual figure. I added tons of parts on his chest, arms and legs, for that messy and sharpy Decepticon look.
The original canopy section was removed, since it's not there in the movie version, leaving only the canopy itself. The whole chest section was redone using mostly new parts to get the right look (much bulkier). The middle section was resculpted to be permanently open, with a few tiny mechanical parts and wires here and there. A few parts were added on his neck as well. Speaking of which, the neck now can be tilted side to side.
I added several wires on his arms, instead of just paiting the sculpted ones, for a much more realistic look.
I also added articulated fingers, and a ball joint on his right hand. Each finger has a tiny spike added, just like the CGI model has.
I added the jet engines on his back, as well.
His legs were heavily modified, with tons of new parts added, to get that overlapping-transforming -panels look.
The paint job was done with several coats of different shades of gray and metallic enamels, for that not so shiny but still metallic look (like the actual F-22)
The final touch is on his head. I resculpted his eyes for a more accurate and meaner "look". Finalle, each eye has its own LED now, and they're visible even in day light.
