If you live in the UK, you will recognise the horror of the Replacement Bus Service. You think you will be travelling by train, but end up in a bus facing traffic jams, roadworks and pot holes. Not fun. But she is sitting very prettily on her suitcase!
Our cat died a few months ago and I haven't quite gotten around to committing to getting a new cat yet, much to my wife and kids dismay. So, my oldest daughter had my wife search for LEGO cats and then had me help her build this. The design is Tyler Clites.
There was certainly a good variety of vehicles running through Basingstoke on rail replacement duties today (Good Friday 2023). The sun made an appearance which was good to see as well!

It was back to Basingstoke today (12/01/2025) for another look at the rail replacement operation with an impressive 13 departures an hour. A bit of a Barnes-fest certainly added brightness to an otherwise grey day.
The rather inclement weather had me pondering whether or not to venture out to Basingstoke today (05/01/2025) but in the end curiosity won again! A good few captures here for you to enjoy.
With the Cardiff to Newport line closed over the Late Summer Bank Holiday long weekend in 2017, a number of Welsh and West Country operators, plus Rowe Coaches of Nuneaton, were hired by Arriva Trains Wales to provide a high frequent replacement road service.
Edwards of Llantwit Fardre provided a number of coaches, but the welcome surprise for me was Alexander ALX400-bodied Dennis Trident Y8 EDW.
New to London United in dual-door configuration as SN53 KJV, she was acquired by Edwards from Holmeswood Coaches in September 2013 and has received a set of dual-purpose seats for school contract work.
In this late August 2017 shot, she is captured on Cardiff's Penarth Road returning from another round trip to Newport.
2018 BMW M3 with Competition Pack. Top speed is a little lower compared to the V10-powered M6, but everyday usability is infinitely higher, 0-60 is much quicker, the 1/4 mile is much quicker, and the front end feels comparatively weightless, so turn-in is ... divine.
Approximately 110 years worth of Canterbury Frozen Meats Fairton shunters in the sun at The Plains Railway.

September saw the end of the TrawsCymru T14 service linking Cardiff and Hereford, with the section east of Brecon being replaced by Sargeants service X44. Seen here at Brecon is YJ71GSY having just completed the first journey of the day from Hereford on a British Summertime Days Only, meaning that with today being the first day of GMT, this service should not be operating

Another fabulous AEC from the Joao Carlos Soares fleet from Guimaraes in Northern Portugal. MO-91-85 is seen here departing it's home town for the nearby one of Fafe. For some reason, the Portuguese 'Iberian gauge' (broad gauge) rail network never reached the important centre of Guimaraes, rather it was served by the meter gauge suburban lines out of Oporto. The railway once progressed beyond here to Fafe, but several years ago, this section was closed and lifted leaving the passenger traffic to buses. More recently, the entire meter gauge network has been re-gauged bringing broad gauge trains here. Still, for the purposes of this picture, the owners pride is well displayed on this machine even down to the characteristic 'white walls'. I think that the bodywork is by I Mota, and is an early 'Atomic' design.
Well, the long anticipated "Woking Weekender" finally arrived and delivered a magnificent array of vehicles operating rail replacement services out to Weybridge, Guildford, Aldershot and Basingstoke throughout both days. No less than 34 different operators provided in excess of 70 buses, coaches and minibuses across both days including three 75-plates. And Burrows Coaches had "both" their East Lancs Darts out - EDIT - STOP PRESS! On Saturday it was LK55ADX and on Sunday it was J8UFX - first with the news!!
Now then, Woking is not the photographer's friend at this time of year due to high-rise office blocks surrounding the station area. Saturday started wet, eased off but remained rather gloomy all day, and Sunday was almost a write-off with clear blue skies and low sun. The one sunny spot we found came with a time limit as a ruddy great big lamppost shadow edged its way into shot therefore limiting use of that corner. All in all though, it proved to be a belter!! Maybe have it in the Spring next time please Network Rail?

Colchester Borough Transport ECW bodied Leyland Atlantean No. 90 is seen on rail replacement work in the forecourt of Ipswich Station in 1987. Curiously enough the last time I saw this bus was in October 2009, being operated by Talisman Coaches but nicely restored to full CBT livery. It was once again being employed on rail replacement work, this time between Manningtree and Harwich.
