City Circle provided several Scania Irizar coaches for today's rail replacement job between Three Bridges and Brighton. K410 I6s YN18 SVL carries CIE Tours livery. Sadly, with the advent of the new PSVAR for rail replacement services, luxury coaches like this will become rarer on such work although the Kings Ferry did have a number of quality coaches on today's job.

18th January 2020.

Well, the long anticipated "Woking Weekender" finally arrived and delivered a magnificent array of vehicles operating rail replacement services out to Weybridge, Guildford, Aldershot and Basingstoke throughout both days. No less than 34 different operators provided in excess of 70 buses, coaches and minibuses across both days including three 75-plates. And Burrows Coaches had "both" their East Lancs Darts out - EDIT - STOP PRESS! On Saturday it was LK55ADX and on Sunday it was J8UFX - first with the news!!

Now then, Woking is not the photographer's friend at this time of year due to high-rise office blocks surrounding the station area. Saturday started wet, eased off but remained rather gloomy all day, and Sunday was almost a write-off with clear blue skies and low sun. Just as well I have a sense of humor...

After seeing 6H29 through Great Chesterford, it became apparent all was not well on West Anglia as the overhead wires failed in the freezing winds at Whittlesford, and then my phone gave up the ghost as well...

Faced with waiting an indefinite time to see if any replacement transport would sweep me towards home from Great Chesterford or to walk to Audley End and assess my options from there, I chose the latter on the principle of the walk at least keeping me warm.

At around half-distance on the extended walk, Trustybus Scania Omnicity YN53RXP (TB RXP) is seen passing down the B1383 near Littlebury underneath a huge electricity pylon with a Greater Anglia emergency bus service for Cambridge.

I ended up boarding a train at Audley End, but that was cancelled before departure as the overhead wires lost power at Stansted Mountfitchet, so Solo EU58AXX on the SoE 301 came to the rescue in the end.

It was an experience, I'll say that for it... 15/12/18

The Grade I Listed Salisbury Cathedral one of the leading examples of Early English architecture. The main body of the cathedral was completed in only 38 years, from 1220 to 1258. The cathedral is the mother church of the Diocese of Salisbury and seat of the Bishop of Salisbury. In Salisbury, Wiltshire.

As a response to deteriorating relations between the clergy and the military at Old Sarum Cathedral, the decision was taken to resite the cathedral and the bishopric was moved to Salisbury. The move occurred during the tenure of Bishop Richard Poore, a wealthy man who donated the land on which it was built. The new cathedral was paid for by donations, principally from the canons and vicars of southeast England who were asked to contribute a fixed annual sum until it was completed. A legend tells that the Bishop of Old Sarum shot an arrow in the direction he would build the cathedral but the arrow hit a deer that died in the place where Salisbury Cathedral is now. The cathedral crossing, Old Sarum and Stonehenge are reputed to be aligned on a ley line, though Clive L.N. Ruggles asserts that the site, on marshland, was chosen because a preferred site several miles to the west could not be obtained.

The foundation stone was laid on 28 April 1220. Much of the freestone for the cathedral came from Teffont Evias quarries. As a result of the high water table in the new location, the cathedral was built on only four feet of foundations, and by 1258 the nave, transepts and choir were complete. The only major sections built later were the cloisters in 1240, the chapter house in 1263, tower and spire, which at 404 feet (123 m) dominated the skyline from 1320. Because most of the cathedral was built in only 38 years, it has a single consistent architectural style, Early English Gothic.

Although the spire is the cathedral's most impressive feature, it has proved to be troublesome. Together with the tower, it added 6,397 tons (6,500 tonnes) to the weight of the building. Without the addition of buttresses, bracing arches and anchor irons over the succeeding centuries, it would have suffered the fate of spires on later great ecclesiastical buildings (such as Malmesbury Abbey) and fallen down; instead, Salisbury remains the tallest church spire in the UK. The large supporting pillars at the corners of the spire are seen to bend inwards under the stress. The addition of reinforcing tie beams above the crossing, designed by Christopher Wren in 1668, arrested further deformation. The beams were hidden by a false ceiling, installed below the lantern stage of the tower.

Significant changes to the cathedral were made by the architect James Wyatt in 1790, including replacement of the original rood screen and demolition of a bell tower which stood about 320 feet (100 m) north west of the main building. Salisbury is one of only three English cathedrals to lack a ring of bells, the others are Norwich Cathedral and Ely Cathedral. However it does strike the time every 15 minutes with bells.

Kicking off 2026 was a trip to Basingstoke on Sunday 4th January to witness the rail replacement buses running to Andover, Farnborough, Reading, Winchester and Woking. With 11 departures every hour, something interesting was bound to turn up sooner or later. Being sufficiently west of London, Basingstoke is predominantly 'coach country' rather than say, east of Woking where it's almost all buses running the rail replacement services.

Today's delights were a pair VDL Futuras from Star Tours of Wembley, a JKT International Irizar, a pair of former Excelsior Plaxton Elites now sporting Damory branding, the Barnes '100 Years' coach which has now been repainted into full fleet livery, and a pair of Mayflower Scania deckers. It was good to see the Mayflower pair back on the road again after the devastating vandal attack that crippled the fleet back in November 2025.

In total, 36 buses and coaches from 20 different operators passed our cameras in our 3 hour visit with Aldermaston Coach Lines and Barnes providing 5 each.

ODB makes another appearance on the photostream again. But this time, it's on another one of its versatile roles in the fleet. And I don't know why, but I like how accidentally photogenic this photo has come out with the sun in the back. Maybe getting the lighting wrong isn't so bad sometimes...

I'm not saying they are the same, but they do share common attributes. They will do until I can find an identical pair of the old faithful's anyway.

Close enough

Is this pleather bomber exactly like my old one? No. It’s missing the puffed sleeves but has a superior collar. I’m satisfied with the replacement.

Once upon a time, in December 2011, I had an epic thrifting day with Reva of Rags 2 Roses. We hit the Cheviot Goodwill and my style changed forever. She convinced me to buy both a pair of ankle boots and denim shorts. I was sure that ankle boots made my legs look stumpy and that I was too old for short shorts with leggings. She gave me the encouragement to try and now both styles are a staple in my #ootd. I didn’t need much encouragement to also purchase a pleather bomber from H&M, but that also became a frequent element in my outfits. I’m wearing all three of those pictures in this outfit post.

I wore both the faux leather boots and jacket until the PVC coating cracked and flaked off. I replaced the boots with a leather pair from Vionic and the jacket with a leather motorcycle style from BCBG Max Azria. While the boots satisfied, I missed the easy bomber shape of my old jacket.

The thrift gods were with me, again, six years later, because I found a “new” pleather bomber for $8 at the Salvation Army. I intend to wear this one until the plastic, once again, cracks and flakes away.

Jacket, C Magic (thrifted). Dress, Old Navy (thrifted). Leggings, Mono B. Boots, Vionic. Earrings, Francesca’s.

A few years ago, when our cat Briggs was on her last leg, this sweet little guy showed up. It seemed he was meant to become our next cat, and we started calling him Replacement Kitty. Briggs was not impressed. His expression was perpetually grumpy due to his hair lip, he was missing a testicle and a rear toe, his voice always cracked, and his tail had been broken at least once. But everything had healed, and all he wanted to do was sit in my lap and purr. He found an open door down the street before Briggs finally kicked the bucket. We still see him occasionally. But they don't call him Replacement Kitty.

same facial part but from another picture....just hope it's going to be a good match.....glad I only do pretend...

thanks for looking.....appreciated.....best bigger.....hope you have a Great Weekend

Thank god for rail replacement in Jan, Feb & Mar! A mixed bag at Clapham Junction on Sat 18/01/2025 helped keep the grey matter ticking over until the brighter weather arrives. Buses were running to Surbiton, Weybridge, Effingham, Worcester Park, Chessington and Hampton Court which between them generated 19 departures an hour. Shame so much of it was RATP but heyho.

Just got a new left ear in the mail and, boy oh boy, it’s a beauty. Can’t wait to staple it on and take it out for a spin. Goodbye to Closed Captioning! I’ll be able to hear Wheel of Fish and all my favorite shows again. And at night I’ll turn it off and sleep soundly. Ain’t technology grand!

A regular performer on rail replacements in recent weeks although the first time I have managed to catch this one on camera.

This Van Hool Volvo has had quite a few operators previously, it carries the livery from its time operating for Stagecoach Highlands which had taken over from Rapson Travel.

It is a somewhat scruffy example compared to the presentation offered by other operators running vehicles on the rail replacement such as CJ Down, Spearings, Oakley's and even First.

After nearly two years since the original building was destroyed by a tornado, this replacement Whataburger restaurant opened on July 29, 2019 at 3:00 PM. At the time of its opening, this became the largest Whataburger location operating in Oklahoma.

The Whataburger building that previously occupied this site was severely damaged by a tornado on August 6, 2017 and was demolished on August 15, 2017. The restaurant was open and serving customers at the time that the tornado hit.

The tornado-ravaged Whataburger building started out as a Burger Chef. When it was converted to Whataburger, an A-frame was added to give the building a signature Whataburger appearance.
