This is my new gear that replaces the gear I lost. Both the camera and lens are upgrades from what's gone so in that respect I did well. The camera feels quite different, button wise and smells like a new car. The view finder seems amazingly clear and crisp so I think there has been a few changes there, not that the old one was particularly unclear. The video feature this new version has is a bit fiddly focus wise but then I doubt I'll use that much. I'm not so keen on the feel of the new selector button as it's not so sensitive but that will probably be a good thing once I get used to it as before the focus selector would jump around as my nose sometimes pressed against this selector switch (I use my left eye in the viewfinder). That shouldn't happen now.
one little thing they have done at long last is to include a hot shoe protector with this camera. I had to buy one as an optional extra on the D300 and the cheapest I could get it was £5 on e-bay. Some places wanted £8 for that silly piece of plastic.
Anyway, enough talking about it. I need to find a gap in the weather and use it.
The Replacements - joined by Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day - rocked the final day of the Forecastle Music Festival in Louisville, Ky.
It's not everyday you get a Leyland Tiger turn up on rail replacement. Ex Hedingham GVS 948Y is seen here loading up at Southwick station this morning. Train services had been badly disrupted due to a fatality at Southwick.
Metro's major track replacement work continues. A ballast train with the roadrailer tractor in the middle of the formation occupies the Out line at Cullercoats.

flatted out on the way to work. no issues getting off of the road safely in AM rush hour traffic. Tow truck never showed up. After 2 hours of holding the bike up, I called Biker Bill and he came with his trailer.
Check out the nubs. Looking forward to knocking them off ASAP. Need to break it in before pushing too hard...
I spotted this little lady in the thrift store a couple of weeks ago, and bought her for that dress. I thought I might be able to modify it to look a little more Elizabethan if not medieval. After a closer look at the skirt design, I realized that it would be more trouble to modify than it's worth. But then I realized that the new blonde lady could easily be transformed into a more suitable Queen Araxie than the one I've currently got. I have never managed to get Araxie's eye repaint to look right, but this doll's eye color could easily be painted over with a light gray, and unlike the original Araxie head, there aren't thick layers of modern-looking "glam" makeup that have to be wiped away (along with the original eye paint), so it would be a much easier makeover. The burgundy lips won't be a problem to change. I can either paint over them with a paler pink color like I did for Helena (who also started out with lips this dark), or even wipe the original paint off and paint the lips back on with a softer shade of rose. Lips are much easier to recreate from scratch than eyes. So I may try a makeover on her this weekend and see if she comes closer to my vision of Araxie. Hopefully Kelson will be pleased with his wife's new look.

On rail replacement between Chelmsford and Romford. The driver insisted on getting out of the coach and giving me an earful before I took the photo - hardly a good representative of the company. (Just say "I don't want to be in the photo" - you don't have to verbally abuse the photographer)

Not the best photo ever but an interesting story... A stranded Via 6429 sits in Ottawa. The cold weather and high electric heating demands of the 6 car Renaissance consist was too much for the F40ph's hep generator to handle causing it to fail before it could make its trip from Ottawa to Quebec city as Via 28 on January 20th. As a result the passengers were "bustituted" to Montreal to meet the replacement train that was hastily put together in Montreal. Via 6404 with 3 hep-2 coaches continued the journey to Quebec city. After swapping locomotives with Via 26 in Quebec city (as is standard procedure) Via 6439 led Via 33 from Quebec city to Ottawa. where they sit side by side in the photo. The failed service and its replacement. (note Via employees about to enter the rear door on the locomotive to try and fix the hep gen.) (also the failed 6429 and its train deadheaded back to the MMC for proper servicing later that day)
first roll from my isoly junior. It didn't wind the film tightly, plus light leaked in through the counter window. I didn't think to block that because when in it's case, the case covers it.
SEACHOICE HORN BUTTON $4.95 from online Discount Marine Supplies. I just never could seem to find the stock button during an emergency. This one is great: I can just keep the knuckle of my first finger rolled over on it in heavy traffic.

The US&S position light signals were introduced when the Pennsylvania Railroad was in control of the N&W, and are being replaced with a Southern Railway style system. Since the merger of N&W and Southern, most of the new managers and executives have come from the Southern side, along with their ideas on how to run a railroad.
Just as the Virginian, Wabash, and Nickle Plate disappeared into the N&W corporation, so is N&W losing its identity, with the actual corporation having been dissolved a few years ago.
