The main line from Bristol Temple Meads to Weston-super-Mare has been closed for three weekends. This afternoon the work reached Yatton station with the down line being relaid.

"RAPID-BRIDGE-REPLACEMENT TECHNOLOGY" is a technique that uses powerful and highly manoeurvable heavy-lift equipment to remove an existing bridge and replace it , in hours, with a new one.
Two new four lane bridges, one for east lane and the other for the west lane will be installed in place in 16 hours. The two old existing four lane bridges which you see in this set will be removed and rolled away using two selfpropelled modular transporters. Each transporter has 230 rubber tires!
Work will take place between 8 PM , Aug 2 to 12:01 PM , Aug 2, 2008.
This feat will be a second in Canada!!

1858 stone font placed during the restoration by Gloucester firm Medland & Maberly, (Longhope followed the direction of the Long Parliament in 1645 to destroy the font. At the 1660 Restoration they were called upon to replace it, and a parishioner donated a large domestic mortar. This vessel remained in use until this font was installed and the mortar became a feeding bowl for pigs, with a specially broken side to allow the piglets access. Some years later the farmer returned the mortar to the church where it was placed on the base of an ancient cross near the main gates, together with some stones from the old spire. Sadly this was stolen in the early 1980's.

Our y-joint was broken (in Salt Lake City and other municipalities, this is the homeowner's responsibility) and so the city came in and put a new "y" on the main. Took about 15 minutes. Dudes were fast as hell and the cement took 45 minutes to cure.

So, I love my sharkie shoes. I do. But, I've loved them so much now, that they are falling apart.
It's time for replacements. I'm sad, but it's the truth. The search for replacements was exhausting, as it's difficult to find shoes as awesome as my sharkie shoes, but I think I was successful. These are my new starry shoes. I love stars, and I love Chucks, so they just called to me.
And they're black and white, so they fit in quite well with the TOTW. :)
While my sharkie shoes can never truly be replaced, I am OK retiring them knowing that these will be worn instead.

Testing using a threaded PEEK "nut" in place of a metal nut. Unlike a metal nut, this shouldn't dissipate as much heat onto the washer. The question is if it's strong enough to hold the barrel in place like a metal nut.
