Water Orton's original church was a small but ancient building that once stood nearby but was rebuilt and remodeled beyond recognition by the time it was replaced by the present church on a new site which opened in 1879. The old church has now vanished without trace though its churchyard remains in use, and the old medieval cross still stands here substantially complete.
The new church was designed by Bateman & Corser and consisted of a nave with a single north aisle and a polygonal apsed chancel. The tower occupies the north-west corner but alas its once soaring spire suffered badly from the effects of time and poor quality stone and was dismantled in the late 1980s, giving the tower the unusual outline it has today with just the lower courses of its octagonal spire remaining. A suite of modern parish rooms was added to the south side of the church in 2001.
The interior is light and pleasant and beautifully restored in recent years with the chancel ceiling enriched by delightful stenciled decoration on a background of deep blue. The apse windows below are by Hardmans.
The church isn't normally open outside of services aside from short spells on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, to which I timed my visit and am very grateful for the warm welcome I was given here.

Replace the plastic cones (the translucent clear above the blast plate, and the yellow cone) with a fireproof/heat resistant material and keep the blast plate out of direct contact with the swivel and hub's legs.
Replaced the string from the lams to the shafts with Texsolv cord. Though probably didn't need to as the cord issue was about me thinking the cord went into the grooves on the sides of the castle. Nope. They don't. And silly to think so as the Medico started life as a table loom. Live & learn!

Built after the great earthquake of 1356 to replace the former seat of government. After Basel joined the Swiss Confederation in 1501, the front part of the building was replaced by the Great Council with an imposing new structure in 1503. The coats of arms of Basel and the 11 other members of the then Confederation adorn the crenellations. A new town hall and connecting building to the rear were built 1504-14. This oldest part consists of three pointed arch arcades, above which is the richly decorated government council chamber. The rear was increased 1517-21 with a Great Council Chamber, which Hans Holbein the Younger was commissioned to paint. In 1535/36 a new chancellery building was erected to the left of the Great Council Chamber (partially preserved).
The front was added to the left of the arcades 1606-08, with the facade kept uniform, so the late-Gothic elements of the town hall, which is a hundred years older, were incorporated. The front of the town hall was combined in terms of painting, as the artist Hans Bock decorated the facade with painted trompe l'oeil.
With the growth of the city at the end of the 19th century and a new canton constitution in 1875, an expansion was necessary. In 1899-1901 the tower and left wing were added. The Great Council Chamber with adjoining rooms was rebuilt 1901-04. The 16th century hall was demolished when the town hall expanded in 1904 in neo-Gothic/ neo-Renaissance style.

We applied for and obtained the building permit. We handled all inspections. We removed the existing concrete driveway. We removed all debris from premises. We graded and compacted all soil. We poured the new concrete driveway and walkways with 4000 PSI concrete with fiber mesh reinforcement. We hand troweled the concrete with a double broom finish. We cut all expansion joints accordingly.
Less than eight years old. Now replaced ( with great efficiency by Messrs Silverstone Energy of Narbeth. Thanks Mark!) by an 'Eddi' which does the same thing but with a more informative app. The old Immersun always did run a bit warm despite a substantial heat sink and fan within and then the original manufacturer went tits up. Anecdotally one hears that they are not known for their longevity.
Oh and a fat bill just before Christmas. Lovely! Oh well, back to a festive serving gruel and slim pickings.. .. ..
