I wanted to test some of the glass capabilities of Cinema 4D (transparency, reflection, refraction and caustics). The whole scene was built by me with a HDRI map I bought from the Internet. It took C4D about 20 minutes to render the hole still.

There are three variables that affect render quality when doing path ray tracing, and I was curious how they affect render times. Unsurprisingly, the longer you wait, the less noise you get.
1. aa (anti-aliasing)
2. samples (number of rays per sub-pixel)
3. path samples.
The render times for each are noted. Also, flickr left the large size image in png format, so you can view the results in a lossless file.

downloaded some geometry from the google 3d warehouse - clip art is what I was looking for, not detail - but exporting to obj, then importing to rhino, and then exporting again to render in maxwell - and the textures come through!
unexpected, not necessarily desired in this case, but a rare case of digital data portability
After I rendered this video I had to transcode it which took another couple of hours. Then of course uploading (twice) took a few more hours. Lots of time goes into editing. Even more time goes into rendering, transcoding, uploading and publishing.
