Dundas, Ontario Canada. Rememberance Day Ceremony 2008

Halifax Chronicle-Herald, Remembrance Day 2016.

Remembered in Bronze and Stone is not a novel, as the reporter asserts, but the writing of my book was indeed "a blast" as the article quotes me as saying.

. . . the fifth of November,

Gunpowder, treason and plot.

I see no reason why gunpowder, treason

Should ever be forgot . . .

Yes, I know this is a ridiculously teeny bonfire to be posting here today for bonfire night, but it's the only photograph in my archive with anything like a decent fire. It wasn't even November when this was taken, my records show it was March of 1974, so I guess it may have been a barbeque at the children's home where I worked at that time.

Well anyway, this is only posted as an introduction to today's blog story about bonfire night which can be found here: opobs.wordpress.com/2012/11/05/remember-remember/

On June 25, 2017 Pride March NYC is going into its 48th anniversary with the largest Pride March in the country. Pride March NYC is a day of fun and celebration in the name of equality, attracting thousands of out-of-state visitors and brings them together with local residents, families, and community leaders. The first March was held in 1970 and has since become an annual civil rights demonstration. Over the years its purpose has broadened to include recognition of the fight against AIDS and to remember those we have lost to illness, violence and neglect. The March is a celebration of our lives and our community. (Photo by Erik McGregor)

Public buildings had to display these signs if they had a basement and were equiped with supplies in case of atomic bombs that might rain down upon us at any time.

These signs have been on these buildings for so long that one doesn't even "see" them anymore. This a dorm on campus of St. Cloud State Univ.

November 11, 2018 marks the 100th anniversary since the end of the First World War, Armistice Day.

After four years of conflict, the guns fell silent. And we remember those who have given their lives on the battlefield, defending our country.

Remembering Liz's grandfather, Russ, who passed away in May 2012.

Waking Up:

Remember what you were

"The Lord ’s curse is on the house of the wicked,

but he blesses the home of the righteous." Proverbs 3:33 (NIV)

There are some bad boys out there who have forgotten about their quadruple bypass operation and are eating fat-fried food again. There are some bad girls who have forgotten about their emphysema and have started smoking again. There are some reckless diabetics who are careless with their insulin injections. Such people apparently have lost their fear of--and respect for--their disease.

A real danger for people who have been Christians for a while is that they grow sleepy and careless in their security. They forget who they were and where they came from. They have lost their shock and awe at the fearful wrath of God on all evil. “The LORD’s curse is on the house of the wicked” (Proverbs 3:33).

We all need to remember the terrible punishment that our Savior Jesus Christ absorbed for our sake on the cross. We all need to re-appreciate how expensive the forgiveness is that he bought for us there. We all need to respect and fear our enemy from hell. We all need to reaffirm our gratitude for Word and sacrament that bond us to Christ now and forever. Lord, wake us.

God bless
