The execution works of the square began in 1511 and were carried out in the context of great improvements promoted during the reign of Manuel I of Portugal when the population was elevated to the category of city.1 The plans to create a new square were to which is added a document from the Municipal Chamber, dated 1477, which stated that the old center of the town —a square located in the Cantos da Carreira— was "unworthy" for the population.

In 1517 the construction of the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción began in a square that at that time was called the "Plaza Nueva", designed by Francisco de Arruda in the current Manueline style. This church, whose construction lasted almost the entire 16th century, was elevated to the category of cathedral and served as "Sé de Elvas" until 1882, the year in which the diocese was suppressed. new Paços do Concelho built next to the wall from the Muslim era. The "Plaza Nueva" thus became the religious and administrative center of Elvas, beyond being a place where fairs and bullfights were held.

In 1886 it was renamed "Plaza del Príncipe Don Carlos" and in 1910 "Plaza de la República".

Pictured at Bath's bus station on Sunday June 11th 1972 by my trusty 'Kodak Instamatic 25', was this nostalgic line of vehicles working on Associated Motorways services; all coaches are devoid of passengers and were on a refreshment break. This was the last flowering of the AM pool with its many varied liveries of the constituent companies, as it would later that year become known as 'National Express' with the coaches painted in a unified white livery. First up is a Leyland Leopard with Duple Commander bodywork of Midland Red, and was # 5808 in that operator's LC7 class; next a Black and White Motorways Leopard, # 239 with Plaxton Panorama body; third in line is a United Counties Bristol RELH/ECW combination, # 273, and was working to Northampton whilst the the fourth coach was a Southdown Leopard/Plaxton Panorama Elite,#1230, and was en-route to Brighton. A native Bristol Omnibus, Bristol RELH # 2062 was waiting to leave on a 264 for Trowbridge.

this is my pool, cool!

This stand which advertises refreshment drinks in large letters carries a number of western staples: hamburgs, hot dogs, and french fries. The packaging for the hamburgers reminds me of the hamburgers on the Air Koryo flight where I actually tried one to my utter disgust. Sure, you're flying on an old Soviet-era jet plane with a poor safety standard. The real bravery comes from trying the airplane food on that kind of flight! It's better to eat before you get onboard.

...a snapshot after a day of skiing. The quality after some cropping may not be the best, but I like the impression :)

I'm a bit sick of the usual Pad Thai recipe. It's not that it isn't tasty. It is. However, it's always nice trying something new. So here are a few things I threw in:

3-4 minced coriander stems and leaves.

3 minced lemon-grass stems (that leave a wonderful aroma on your fingertips).

0.5 cup chopped garlic.

a few chopped shallots (you can also use one half of a small onion).

A little sweet chilli sauce.

3 tbsp. nam-pla (thai fish sauce) for saltiness.

1 tbsp. sugar.

4 tbsp. tamarind sauce.

5 tbsp. lime juice.

0.5 cup crushed peanuts.

1 small chilli pepper, thinly sliced.

0.5 big red pepper shreds.

300 g. chinese sprout.

A few mushrooms cut in quarters.

50-100 g. sliced chicken breast (or pork, or beef).

1 can of coconut milk (at least 60%).

1 pack of thai rice noodles (300-330 g.).

0.5 cup canola oil.

Soak the noodles in hot water for about 15 minutes, and then soak them in the coconut milk.

Heat the wok, add half of the oil, and fry the onion and garlic. Then add the peppers and the noodles, and stir fry for about 2-3 minutes. Take the content of the wok out to a large bowl.

Add the rest of the oil to the wok, and stir fry the vegetables, lemon-grass, sprout, coriander and chicken. After one minute, start adding the sugar and the "liquids" - nam pla, tamarind, lime juice and the sweet chilli sauce (it's also possible to marinate the chicken in the sweet chilli sauce, to add a nice glaze to it). Stir fry everything until the chicken is done.

Then add the noodles from the bowl to the wok, and stir fry for another couple of minutes, until everything is ready and hot.

Add the peanuts and serve in deep personal bowls.

It's a refreshing (thanks to the lemon-grass and lime), creamy (thanks to the coconut milk) and light (you can also try using cream, but what's thai about that?) dish.

Most important, it's very easy to make.

Bon appetit!

I was inspired......i decided to give this a shot

Taking well earned refreshment at the Charlie St. George Pub, Limerick City. Saturday 13th October 2018.

Railway Refreshment Room was built in the 1920s to cater for passengers transferring from train to bus.

The building became known as “Pendle’s Rooms” – named after Wally Pendle, who took over the running of the mail and passenger service.

Starting with T-Model Fords and extending to buses he continued until 1949, when the business was taken over by Stateliner Pty Ltd. It is estimated that 400,000 passengers were safely transported.

A business trip to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam made me realized how much I missed shooting travel and streets.

Gearing away from my comfort zone of shooting landscapes, I try to wander the busy streets of Ho Chi Minh.

These are my capture of Ho Chi Minh with side trips at Cu Chi and Mekong Delta.

flickr has marked my stream "unsafe" for content reasons. i'm working on getting the issue fixed and pray Terryland will return to "Life as Normal... or as close to Normal" as soon as possible. i really hope they review my photostream that they look at it with artistic merit and see that i'm not posting x-rated materials. i also learned a lesson about "safe filters" so i will be marking any future Burlesque show shot that have any hint of naughtiness. I just hope my account doesn't get deleted. flickr has always been my safe haven and i have met so many amazing people in the years i've been here. i'd hate to see this stream go away.
