Step with care and great tact

and remember that Life's

a Great Balancing Act.

-Dr. Seuss

It is graduation season so I've had lines from "Oh, the Places You'll Go" by the great Dr Seuss, floating through my head all month! It has always been one of my favourite books.

Anyhow, this image is one I've been staring at forever. It is not pretty but there is something about it I like. It was taken on the ferry to Fogo Island and, fingers crossed, I'll be on it again later this summer.

Happy Window Wednesday all! Wishing you a great rest of the week!

Just a quiet sun setting over Island Harbour....I love these moments.

Happy Monday all! I hope you all have a sun shiny new week!!

The Yaquina River (ya-KWIN-eh) is a river, 59 miles (95 km) long, on the Pacific coast of the U.S. state of Oregon. It rises in the mountains west of Corvallis along the county line between Benton and Lincoln counties. It flows south, then generally west, in a highly serpentine course, and enters the Pacific in Yaquina Bay, a broad estuary at Newport.

A large charter fishing fleet operates out of Newport in search of halibut, salmon, and other fish found in the nearby ocean. Species within the bay include cabezon, striped perch, rockfish, greenling, salmon, sturgeon, herring, and crabs. The river upstream of the bay supports populations of salmon, steelhead, and cutthroat trout. The river and bay are also fished from the banks in places and from small boats. Boat-launching ramps are available along the lower river and the bay.

As I woke yesterday I could hear the rain pouring! It was a snuggle down and back to dreamland kind of morning. Thankfully it didn't last and by the afternoon me and my littles were out visiting all their favourite playgrounds.

The playground I like the most is surrounded in trees and tucked away among them are rock benches. The light filters through the leaves and on these slabs of slate stood tiny pools of water. So I went foraging for the perfect little weed to make some Macro Monday goodness. Or at least I hope its good...maybe I created Macro Monday almost goodness? :-) Whatever it is, it was most definitely last minute! It always is. One of these weeks I'm going to get it together before Sunday...fingers crossed!

Happy Monday and new week to you all!!!

Many people don’t like rain, but for me the puddles left behind can be more than magical:-))

To this photo I came, like many times before, by coincidence. After an a bit unsatisfying tour through the forest Hohwald I was on my way back. At a crossing I saw, that the route to the city Bautzen was shorter than the route homewards. So I decided, ignoring any logic, to drive to Bautzen, because there was a view I've passed many times but never photographed it. When I arrived, a lot of luck came into play too, as an extra colourful sunset was waiting for me there. I'm happy, that on this day, I was following my feelings and not my intellect.

Nuremberg is a beautiful city with great history and architecture. However, the city in Franconia doesn't seem to like me very much.

I've had the opportunity to take photos there twice. Twice I made a plan of which locations I would like to explore more closely. And I was pushed back into the car twice shortly after my first phot by heavy sleet (although I really like this photo of the city wall).

With this quota, it will take me a few more years to finish my list

Two years in a row, standing at same location in autumn, but scenery was totally different... 😉

Bow Lake was one of the stops during driving on the Icefields Parkway. It was a cloudy morning; the sky was not tally opened, covered with thick puffy clouds, amazed by the magnificent peaks and reflections on the lake...

End of September is the time with nice fall colors, but there maybe 30cm snow in any moment... Prepare the the weather rocket changes in the last week of September. I remembered exactly same day a year later, 30cm snowfall while boarding in the airport back home, I remembered I waved through aircraft window: bye-bye Rocky Mountains.😊 Once 30cm snow, all the roads to the mountains would be closed. One 500px friend had to change their air tickets back to States one week early due to that big snowfall...

One of the most beautiful castles around!

Another photo from the Eistobel in the Allgäu alps. What attracted me here, was the way the morning sun reflecting in this little pool. It has something farytale like to me. Its very inviting to plunge in. At the end another information by the way. The Eistobel, like the name (icetobel) can imagine, is an absolutely must see during the winter (someone told me). Then everywhere are emerging the most beautiful ice formations along the river. We‘ll see, if I can make it there to this time somehow.

Ein weitere Aufnahme vom Eistobel im Allgäu. Was mich hier so angezogen hat, war das Licht der Morgensonne, was sich in diesem Sammelbecken gespiegelt hat. Das hat schon was märchenhaftes. Da möchte man doch gleich mal abtauchen.

Thanks for all the nice comments, it is much appreciated

Not been able to go outside due to hurting my back, Shot an amazing Sunset the other day, but nothing in the forground wanted to use it. The Gondola was taken many years ago in Venice

Wyher Castle is a beautiful moated castle from the 14th century. It was renovated in 1965 and can now be rented for conventions or weddings.

The moat does not surround the entire castle, so it can be easily reached today.

Took a chance on a sunset at the little Syrian Church the other day. One corner of the sky, around the setting sun briefly exploded with colour.

Alone again, while the world whizzed around in the near distance, I waited in the hope that those dark, grey clouds over the rest of the sky would follow. Not to be.

A sweet diversion to the day none the less.

Sunset across Lake Tyrrell.

My son has been quite sick for a week but is much better now. He did a Rapid Antigen Test and then the more accurate PCR test. Both came back negative. It seemed odd given how bad he was feeling and he rarely ever gets sick. Yesterday his girlfriend started getting sick and did a RAT test. Positive for Covid. He repeated a RAT test which turned a very faint positive. He obviously has it but received a false negative. Fortunately he felt too unwell to go anywhere and infect others so they have basically been isolating anyway.

For the first two years of the pandemic, few people in Australia knew anyone with Covid. Now it would be very few who don't know someone!

Stay safe everyone and keep well.

"So don't go and make a big deal out of nothing

Well it's just a storm on a dime

And I've always found there's nothing

That money can't buy

I've already gone to the place I'm going

There's no place left to fall

And there's something to be said

For saying nothing at all"

-It's Over Tom Waits

Half an hour before this was taken, the skies were flat grey and the rain was pelting down. The sunset tour for the group of Asian tourists was cancelled.

We sat in our car and waited.

Just in case

Something unexpected happened

When the rain stopped, another storm rolled in. This time with "lead grey skies", lightening and ultimately a few rainbows.

It bought with it that light that only a pending storm brings.

North coast of TAIWAN

This is the same night as the previous shot, half hour earlier, just after the sun disappeared...it was such a glorious sky and all I did to this was straighten the horizon...no extra saturation needed!!!!

I haven't been to the beach for ages so have frolicked in the archives for this one, taken at Buckleys Creek near Warnambool last year.

The title is inspired by a line in a poem called Seascape by Bruce Springsteen 1969

I drive past this lake often and always find the electricity tower reflecting in the lake strangely alluring and frighting at the same time.

In the quiet of the morning, you can hear the gentle humming of the electricity, soothing like a nightmarish lullaby.

A week spent in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem always leads to great images a few of which are unexpected. This bull Bison caused a traffic jam (Bison-Jam to those of us who frequent the park). He had a giant ball of Sage wrapped in his horns and basically just stood in the middle of the road obstructing traffic. The I finally go to the front of the line to go around him I leaned out the window and took his picture as I rolled by. His face filled the frame, and if you look closely you'll see my truck in the reflection of his eye.

Driving from Calgary to Kananaskis was a big pleasure enjoying the wonderful views. Really love the road trip through the mountains, pleased by the wildlife, lakes and forest. The photo was taken on the backyards of the camping sites. The Kananaskis lake walks were great with awesome views of the lakes from the forests. It is always said “Canadian contributed the Banff and Jasper National Parks to the world, but kept the Kananaskis park for ourselves”. Kananaskis park is a provincial park, not as famous as Banff and Jasper. But there is comparable Rocky Mountains and lakes.
