Ok, I promised to eventually post some shots from the Icelandic Horses I have been blessed to work with thanks to Linda and Dick Templeton and the Red Feather Ranch in Trout Lake, Washington. Their ranch is just dancing with the loveliest small horses I have ever seen... Icelandic Horses... and they may be small but they are STRONG!
In fact, so strong that they were the original Viking Battle Steeds... War Horses! The Vikings brought them to Iceland where they have flourished...
Red Feather Ranch, just down the road from my brother's house, hosts a handful of Icelandic Horse clinics each year... where a number of riders come to learn from world renowned teachers. A woman from Iceland who trained there to train the horses is living at the Red Feather Ranch and training horses. Others have come from Germany to judge the shows and train horses... and all these gals are kind and wonderful.
The Templetons operate a website called
Tolt Tack for Icelandic horse supplies... tack, DVD's. calendars, books and many other wonderful things. Once we get the process all sorted out they will also exclusively carry sets of my cards of Icelandic Horses, with shots such as this one of the colts. One colt is one year old, and the other is two years old... both are out of the same sire in California and both are shaping up beautifully. They know how to have fun as well!
Next posts will be of the Rodeo I went to this weekend... I am excited about the Barrel riding and Bull riding shots in particular! I am really liking all this action photography, except for sorting out thousands of shots from shooting on continuous burst for part of the Rodeo! *grin*
see ya!
oh yeah, and next week I am making a trip to the Painted Hills with JaniceL.... oh yeah!~

"The Tradition of Red Feather Society--In the early 1930s many Community Chests, the forerunners of the United Way system, adopted the red feather as a symbol of service to the community. Even today, there are long term volunteers who still refer to the United Way campaign as the “Red Feather” campaign."

I saw Scott Kelby shoot some calla lilies using a westcott softbox and always on cold light... no sync required, no wireless,
I used my softbox with a modeling light cranked up an high as it would go. Shot with a 70 -300 on a tripod from approx 8 feet away. I like the results.
Sort of proud of this shot. When I was shooting the White-throated Sparrow a few days ago, I thought I recognized this bird from a quick shot I grabbed as it perched in a tall tree for a second. However, it took me two additional trips before I managed to get a shot that I was half pleased with.
This Ruby-crowned Kinglet is one of the smallest songbirds of North America. This one is a male ... you can tell by the tuft of red feathers on its crown. These feathers are usually erected for just a few seconds at a time when the bird is displaying aggressively. It's not easy to catch them like that, so that's why I'm sort of proud of the shot. If I could have gotten a little closer, with a better pose, then I would have been estatic. However, you take what you can get.
I tell you one thing, though ... Flickr is really starting to tee me off! I don't know how many images I upload are totally washed out ... contrast diminished considerably ... when they get there. This is the third upload I've made with this one.
A whole flock of Robins feasting on dried fruit. Some Robins do migrate in winter and many remain in the same place year-round. During the winter months robins gather together into huge flocks, sometimes numbering hundreds or even thousands of birds, flying around in these flocks in search of fruit. When they find it, the whole flock will descend and strip every berry from the trees and shrubs that they find, often in a single afternoon.

Just enjoying a wonderful issue of American Photo in the bathtub. Really tired after work, let's hope I don't fall asleep. ;p
My stupid remote never wants to work for me when I want it to work. Either the battery dies because it turns itself on or, as in this case, it just won't work. The receiver was on and the remote was supposedly transmitting because the lights were flashing when I pushed the buttons. EIther way I had to tether my camera to my laptop to take some shots. I am pleased with the results.
Random side note: The phonebook was from a Travelodge in South San Francisco. I was planning on moving up to San Francisco within the next three months, but no longer.
